printers, files), and communicate with each other.

2. Types of Computer Networks

LAN (Local Area Network): Covers a small area like a home or office.

MAN (Metropolitan Area Network): Covers a city or campus.

WAN (Wide Area Network): Covers a large area like a country or the world.

3. Components of a Network

Node: Any device connected to a network.

Server: Stores and manages network data.

Client: Accesses services from the server.

Router: Directs data between networks.

Switch/Hub: Connects multiple devices and helps share data.

NIC: Network Interface Card for connection.

4. Network Topologies

Bus: All devices connected to a single cable.

Star: Devices connected to a central hub.

Ring: Devices connected in a circular loop.

Mesh: Each device connected to every other device.

5. Advantages of Networking

- Easy data and file sharing

- Shared resources (e.g., printers)

- Centralized management

- Fast communication

6. Disadvantages of Networking

- Virus/malware risks

- Full network fails if one point fails

- Security threats

- Costly setup

7. Internet vs Intranet

Internet: Public, global, less secure.

Intranet: Private, restricted to organization, more secure.

8. Network Protocols

HTTP: Accessing web pages.

FTP: File transfer.

TCP/IP: Internet communication.

IP Address: Unique address for each device.

9. Networking Devices

Modem: Converts signals for internet.

Router: Connects networks.

Switch: Connects multiple devices.

Hub: Broadcasts data to all devices.

10. Cybersecurity in Networking

- Use firewalls

- Antivirus software

- Strong passwords

- Data encryption

- Regular backups
