The Water And Hydrologic Cycle
The Water and Hydrologic Cycle As we understand it today we know that water is a vital resource and
it is one of the most important substances on earth for all species, plants and animals. All species,
plants and animals must have water to survive to sustain life. It is noted that if there is no water on
earth then there would be no life forms on earth either. Water is also essential for the healthy growth of
all farm crops and farm stock in the manufacture of many products for environmental growth. Apart
from drinking water to survive, humans have many other uses for water. These include: cooking,
washing their bodies, washing clothes, washing cooking and eating utensils; such as billies,
saucepans, crockery and cutlery, keeping houses and communities clean, recreation; such as
swimming pools and keeping plants alive in gardens and parks. It is most important that the water
which humans drink and use for other purposes is considered as clean water. This means that the water
we drink must be free of germs and chemicals and be clear (not cloudy). There are many vital resources
of water as well that are needed to sustain life on earth, but for this essay we will only take a look at
three, Rain Water, Surface Water and Underground Water. Rain Water: Is Water that is collected on the
earth in the form of surface water and underground water. Surface Water: The water present on the
surface of the earth in the form of oceans, rivers, lakes, ponds and streams is
Television Addiction related to Children Essay
According to Rita Dove, the author of Loose Ends, and Television Addiction, by Marie Winn. Both
authors often share the same the views about television. But television addiction is more expressed in
Ms. Winn s essay. However, Ms. Dove speaks of a more personal experience with her daughter, and how
the television is an issue in her household. Although, Ms.Dovesays in her essay, For years the following
scene would play daily at our house: Home from school, my daughter would have her backpack off her
shoulder and let it thud to the hall floor, then jump her jacket on top of the pile (Dove 503).
However, when I first read this I thought to myself about my habits and how I do things around the house.

She gives reasoning of why people become addicts and I think it strengthens her essay.

In addition, Ms. Rita Dove also explains in her essay that, It is not that we confuse TV with reality, but
that we prefer it to reality the manageable struggle resolved in twenty six minutes, the witty repartee
with the family circle instead of the grunts and silence common to real families; the sharpened conflict
and defined despair instead of vague anxiety and invisible enemies (Dove 504). This statement is
however pretty true because what goes on TV maybe reality and some may not. For example, on TV
now a days we have what we call reality TV and what we call Cartoons. But, in any case how you see it
on TV is not always reality because you can t see what you re actually watching in person. Even though
they do portray the real things that go on around the world.
In conclusion, in both case between these two essays however in Dove s essay she doesn t really set
limits for her daughter. So, maybe if she did set limits for her daughter she
Analysis Of Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
As children the formalities posed upon us that our parents are with us since birth and to a certain
extent they will always be with us even when we part home. Our parents serve us are the sole providers
until we are able to fend for ourselves, when we part we look for them in times of need. We seek them
when we are sadden by a misfortunate casualty, not obtaining the raise at work one hoped for or not
being able to purchase the house you had been planning to live on. They are there in moments of
transition, moments of change to sooth us with a comforting pat in the back or a graceful hug for the
greater achievements in our lives like marrying your significant other. But what happens when we decide
to leave our parents nest with the mindset of no return, where do we find comfort in times of change, who
will be there? That is the transition the protagonist in the novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hessedecides to
make when he leaves the comfort of his home and finds comfort in the flow of the river.
Just as our parents are with us since birth the river was with Siddhartha. The river was with him since a
young boy in the sunshine on the river bank by the boats... Siddhartha, the handsome Brahmin s son,
grew up with his friend Govinda (3). The river wasn t just part of his childhood but it played a
significant role in his religion. As the river was part of his morning holy ablutions (3) it served as the
proxy to his daily purification. Siddhartha s early exposure set up his
A New Age Of Literature Essay
The early 1900s ushered in a new age of literature and way of thinking in the wake of changing
traditions, cultures, and the dissolution of values and humanity caused by capitalism and materialism.
This era, known as the modernist period, were made up of authors from all walks of life who sought to
defy and contest the traditional and new age problems through works of literature. As the result of this,
many underlying issues in society were exposed as being double standard, or age old primitive and
religious dogmatic traditions from earlier time periods. Brought about by World War One, the
emancipation of women occurred when the young, healthy men were overseas fighting. This forced
women of all social statuses, to take up men duties. However, after the men returned from war, the women
were forced back into the traditional position of their gender. Bringing forth the crisis of gender identity in
mostly women and reestablishing gender inequality in the patriarchal society of the early 1900s.

The four texts I have chosen to compare are Ernest Hemingway s Cat in the Rain , The Great Gatsby ,
by Scott Fitzgerald, The Garden Party by Katherine Mansfield, and I, being born a woman and distressed
by Edna Millay. In all of these texts, the modernist authors have challenged the traditional concepts and
the positions of men and women in the early 1900s society by underlining the disparity that lies between
them politically and socially.

The attack by the modernists,

Offshore Oil Drilling On The Environment
Offshore Oil Drilling If we do nothing, it doesn t matter how we feel. And that s exactly what oil
companies are banking on: out of sight, out of mind (Hart, 24). Petroleum is a naturally occurring oil
found under deep layers of rock ( oil drilling ). Oil drilling is when a pipe penetrates through these
several layers of rock in order to reach the petroleum oil underneath. This oil can then be purified or
turned into gasoline for energy use. Offshore oil drilling, like its name describes, is specifically oil
drilling on the ocean floor, away from a shore line. Offshore oil drilling provides one of the most
consumed American energy resources, but also provides a risk to the environment (Crawford et al. 2 7).

economy, and because it is an easy and efficient source of energy. First, supporters of continuing
offshore oil drilling argue that it creates thousands of jobs, and that if offshore drilling were to end, the
revenue it creates would also come to an end. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, creation of
a gas to liquids industry resulting in thousands of new domestic jobs and potentially billions of dollars
in new investments (Crawford et al. 20). Offshore oil drilling incorporates a wide variety of employees
ranging from business management teams to the workers on the rig. If offshore oil drilling were to
come to a stop, thousands of people would lose their jobs, and raise the unemployment rate in America.
Furthermore, the profit and revenue offshore oil drilling creates would come to an end. For example,
tax returns, income to land and mineral owners, and access to domestic resources would all stop.
(Crawford et al. 69). With so much dependence on the revenue offshore oil drilling brings in, a stop to
the offshore drilling would leave citizens, dependent on these resources and incomes, left to look for new
jobs and new sources of income. Secondly, the opposition makes the argument that offshore oil drilling is
a crucial part of the U.S. economy, and many Americans are dependent on the oil and gas generated from
it. To start,
The Importance Of A Career In My Life
As a college student one is longing for the day they get their degree and start their career. A career for
me is something I have worked so hard to obtain. When asked the question What role do you want your
work to occupy in your life? my answer is simple. I want my career to allow me to provide for my
family, and be something that I am proud of. My career will be something that I am proud of because
it took me so much schooling and hard work to obtain it. I selected my career path because of the many
opportunities it has to offer. These opportunities come with great pay, with the pay that I receive I will
be able to support my family comfortably. They won t have to worry about not affording college, or any
other financial stress. Throughout my career there will also be many opportunities to move up, however,
no matter how much I move up, I don t wantit to change the type of person that I am. I want to remain the
same humble, hard working employee that I was when I first started. Throughout my business career, I
hope to achieve many things and have many accomplishments. Not just for myself, but also for other. One
thingthat I hope to accomplish is a promotion. A promotion for me will mean that I didn t just settle for
what was handed to me. It will show that I was willing to put in the extrawork and go the extra mile.
Moving up wouldn t mean forgetting about those that are less fortunate. Giving back to my community
here and in Mexico would be something I hope to

Long Term Effects Of Roosevelt s Terms
The final question of long term effects of Roosevelt s term aren t discussed broadly. Katznelson does a
strong job laying foundation, but seems to end their argument on too narrow a point. His concluding idea
is In that painful and uneven process [The New Deal], the legislature was recast and reinvigorated as a
site of decision and governance. This achievement should not be underestimated. I would agree that the
achievement should not be underestimated, I also agree Congress was recast and reinvigorated by the
New Deal. However Katznelson s argument about the recasting and reinvigoration of Congress deserves
some examination. My examination is focused on the longevity of the positive change from the New
Deal. Looking at our contemporary Congress,
