1. What is the definition of manufacturing technology? What are some of the key
challenges facing manufacturers today, and how can they be addressed?

2. What is casting, and what are its advantages and disadvantages?


3. What are the steps involved in the sand-casting process? Briefly explain the
properties of sand.

4. What is a core, and how is it related to a pattern in casting? What are the common
materials used for making patterns, and how are they selected?

5. What is the difference between vernier calliper and Micrometer? A Vernier calliper
has a main scale reading of2 em and a Vernier scale with 10 divisions. If the Vernier
scale aligns with the main scale at the 7th division and the smallest division on the
Vernier scale is 0.1 mm, what is the reading on the Vernier calliper?

6. What are the different types of patterns used in casting, and what are their
advantages and disadvantages?
