II. Computer Basics (15 mins)
TP – 1: Computer
- Computer refers to an electronic, magnetic, optical,
electrochemical, or other data processing or communications
device, or grouping of such devices, capable of performing
logical, arithmetic, routing, or storage functions and which
includes any storage facility or equipment or communications
facility or equipment directly related to or operating in
conjunction with such device.
- The operating system (OS) is the most important program
that runs on a computer. Every general-purpose computer
must have an operating system to run other programs and
applications.
- Computer operating systems perform basic tasks, such as
recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the
display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the
storage drives, and controlling peripheral devices, such as
printers.
- It covers any type of computer device including devices with
data processing capabilities like mobile phones, smart
phones, computer networks and other devices.
TP - 2: Computer System (20 mins)

System unit – core hardware in computer system.
Peripheral device – hardware added to computer system to
expand what computer can do.
Software – are computer program tells how to perform
particular task.
TP –3: Standard Components of computer system divided into
three categories: (20 mins)
Main system components – parts of system unit.
Input/output components – devices consist of monitor,
keyboard, mouse, speaker and printer.
Data storage and retrieval component – hard drive of
computer, Cd rom and floppy disk drive.
