2022 PRELIMINARY ROUND 17
17. On an infinitely long straight running track, sticker stations are placed 1
m apart throughout the track. From the starting point, a runner will run
1 m to the first station, collect a sticker and then run back to the starting
point. Then from the starting point, the runner will run to the second
station, collect a second sticker and then run back to the starting point.
This process is repeated for subsequent stations. How many stickers
has a runner collected altogether for running a total distance of 950 m?
18. A train moves at a constant speed throughout its journey. It takes 45
seconds for the train to cross a bridge 820 metres long, and it takes 35
seconds for the train to cross another bridge 620 metres long. Find the
travelling speed of the train in metres per second.
19. What is the average of all 4-digit numbers that can be formed by using
the digits 2, 3, 7 and 8 exactly once?
20. Ali, Betty and Charles are in different school years of Primary 3,
Primary 4 and Primary 5. They are good at different sports, like
swimming, playing badminton and volleyball. It is also known that:
a) Ali is not in Primary 3; and
b) Betty is not in Primary 4; and
c) The one who is good at playing volleyball is not in Primary 5;
and
d) The one who is good at swimming is in Primary 3; and
e) Betty is not good at swimming.
From the information given above, who is the student who is good at
badminton?
[If your answer is Ali, then shade your answer as “201”;
If your answer is Betty, then shade your answer as “202";
If your answer is Charles, then shade your answer as “203".]

22. A shop sells only luxury suitcases and professional cameras. At the
start of the day, 45% of the goods in the shop are suitcases. After 12
suitcases and 28 cameras are sold, 60% of the goods in the shop are
now suitcases. Find the total number of goods which remained unsold
in the shop.
23. Define a new operation: (x) = - ---- . For example, (2) = -—- = —.
Let M =

24. Jeremy had a total of 3782 red and blue marbles. He sold — of his red
marbles and 52% of his blue marbles. His friends gave him 40 red
1
marbles. Now, the number of red marbles he has is 8—% of the
3
number of blue marbles he has. How many red marbles did he have at
first?
25. How many 8-digit positive integers are there, each of which consists of
digits 0 and 4 only and is a multiple of 75?

2022 PRELIMINARY ROUND 19
26. From 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon of the same day, how many times will
the hour hand and the minute hand of a clock form an angle of 120° ?
(One such example is when the time is very close to 5:49 a.m.)

27. Let X = —----------------- . Find the largest integer not greater than X.

28. In a factory, there are 5 jobs that need to go through 2 stages of
processing. Stage 1 of a job must be completed before its Stage 2 can
begin. The processing times of the 5 jobs over the 2 stages are given
in the table below.
Processing Time on Stage Processing Time on Stage 2
1 (in seconds)
______ (in seconds)______
Job A _________ 68__________ 37
Job B _________ 82__________ 74
JobC __________ 30__________ 88
Job D _________ 52__________ 8
Job E 28 51
There is only one machine for each stage, and so jobs will potentially
need to idle while waiting for a free machine. To maximize efficiency,
the machines start to process the next job the moment they are free,
and the desired aim is to arrange the order of the jobs such that the
total processing time will be the shortest. What is the shortest possible
time (in seconds) needed to complete the processing of all the jobs
over the 2 stages?

2022 PRELIMINARY ROUND 20
29. How many ways are there to distribute 20 identical marbles to three
students so that each student receives at least 5 marbles?
30. Peter and Ryan took part in a Math competition. Each of them
answered all the questions. Peter answered — of the total number of
4
questions incorrectly, while Ryan answered 5 questions incorrectly.
The number of questions that both answered incorrectly is — of the
total number of questions. Given that the number of questions that both
answered correctly is more than half of the total number of questions,
find the number of questions that both Peter and Ryan answered
correctly.
