1. Why does Silver trust Mephiles?
Silver is optimistic, naive, and desperate. He would be extremely likely to trust
anyone who offered him a possible solution to Iblis. He also has no real reason
to assume Mephiles is evil, as he knows nothing of Solaris.
People misrepresented the scene of Mephiles showing Silver Sonic on fire as
the thing that convinces him. In reality, that was only Mephiles showing Silver
what Sonic looked like.
2. Is Blaze retconned?
No. There's actually a really easy explanation for Blaze in this game. Sonic 06 is
a prequel to Sonic Rush, meaning that Sonic and Blaze don't know each other.
A future version of Blaze was warned of something dangerous (aka, Solaris) by
the Sol Emeralds, and travels to Sonic's world, where she meets Silver. They
fight Iblis together and eventually become friends. This would explain why
Blaze's first solution was to seal herself in another dimension; she would clearly
be aware of them and able to travel through them.
3. Why does Shadow leave the Scepter of Darkness in the past?
Shadow doesn't really know how time travel works, let alone on a being like
Mephiles. Mephiles has shown clear mastery over time. So maybe bringing
the scepter to the future would erase Mephiles. Or it could also mean they
just end up with two of them, since Mephiles can time travel. It's a risk.
Meanwhile, Shadow has just sealed Mephiles a moment ago. He knows how
to do it, and it's obviously a much safer option. It's not like he would know that
Mephiles could no longer be sealed. Nobody imagined that. So he simply
chooses to rely on the certain option. Besides, Mephiles hasn't really caused
any real damage up to this point, so there's no reason for Shadow to
specifically take the riskier option.
4a. Why doesn't Mephiles merge with Iblis at a different point in time?
He's a sadist. That's it really. Mephiles is shown to be a character that enjoys
causing suffering. He could kill Sonic himself, or he could send a young
impressionable hero to kill an innocent person. He could simply kill Shadow, or
he could make him turn on his friends, and then kill him.
I will go into detail later, but Mephiles is clearly shown to be able to alter the
future. After all, if he had always merged with Iblis in every timeline, Silver's
future would never exist. That means that until the end of our game, Mephiles
hadn't merged with Iblis. Why? Because he's a sadist, and probably repeated
that same timeline again and again, falling right into the play as he watched the
heroes fall. The game we play is simply the repeat where Mephiles decided to
stop messing around and actually merge with Iblis.
Plus, it's not like him merging with Iblis at an earlier point would make a
difference. The Emeralds and our heroes would still end up in that void.
Mephiles simply chose the option that involved the most violence.
4b. Why does Mephiles try to manipulate Shadow and Silver?
As mentioned above, because he's sadistic. Getting Silver to kill someone
innocent is simply hectic fun for him. And he has a personal hate for Shadow,
so getting him to betray his own ideals and friends would probably be much
more satisfying than simply killing him. It's also possible he repeated each
timeline and constantly changed strategies; in the hopes of finally breaking
Shadow, and simply kept on failing.
4c. Why does Mephiles kill Sonic and not Elise?
Beyond the sadistic satisfaction, killing Sonic also seems like a safer bet than
letting him live. He is the hero after all. Him killing Sonic and making Elise cry
is simply killing two birds with one stone.
5. Are there 8 Chaos Emeralds until the events of 06?
Yes. Assuming the events of Sonic 1 take place less than 10 years ago, there
have always been 8 Emeralds in the games. Obviously the original 7, and an
extra blue one which I like to call the paradox Emerald. Elise gives it to Sonic,
Sonic gives it to Eggman, Silver takes it from Eggman, and then he gives it to
Elise 10 years ago. The cycle repeats. The writers obviously knew what they
were doing with that one. It's an intentional paradox caused by the stable time
travel, which I'll get into later.
How did this Emerald never become relevant? Well, pretty much anyone that
would know of the Chaos Emeralds would know there's 7 of them. Not only
would they have no reasons to look for an 8th one, they also probably wouldn't
need it. Plus, it's likely that Soleanna kept that Emerald safe and a secret, with
Elise only having it in the festival as a lucky charm.
6. Why is Shadow working for GUN?
In Shadow 05, Shadow is shown moving on from his past and his grudges,
which involves GUN. Same goes for GUN themselves, who decide to turn over
a new leaf at the end of that game. Beyond that, Shadow's best friend (Rouge)
is working for GUN, and he recognizes that they can provide him with the
resources necessary to protect the world.
7a. What are the odds Team Sonic and Team Dark end up at the same
point in the future?
While Team Sonic is transported by Eggman's machine to a non specific point
in time, Shadow and Rouge were transported by Mephiles. Mephiles has the
ability to time travel, and as such would know where Sonic would end up. Why
did he send Shadow to the same place? Because for his plan to work, he would
need Sonic to return to the present and build a connection with Elise.
Sure, he could leave him there and kill Elise, but that would mean that Sonic
would still be alive when he merges with Iblis. He simply doesn't get the effect of
killing two birds with one stone, as mentioned.
How do we know he knows what will happen? Well, beyond his ability to time
travel, Mephiles knew exactly where Sonic was when confronted by Silver. It
seems to hint at his ability to have observed the future. Plus, it's supported by
my theory that Mephiles has repeated that timeline over and over again.
7b. What are the odds all of our heroes end up in the rift in space and
time?
Well, Sonic, Elise, Eggman and Team Dark can all be explained through the
justification that they were near the Chaos Emeralds when Mephiles and Iblis
merged. Continuing the trend of explaining everything through Mephiles’
sadism, I believe it was he who decided to transport Amy, Tails, Knuckles and
especially Silver, as to let them relish in the hopelessness of the situation.
Remember that this merge has never happened before, so Solaris couldn't
know that they would be able to resurrect Sonic.
8. Can time travel change the future or not?
It depends. I'll need you to bear with me on this explanation:
Before Solaris is destroyed, none of our heroes can change the future.
Everything they do simply leads to it. It's a "Stable Time Loop," as TV tropes
calls it. That's how the blue Emerald is cycling through time, and how Shadow is
the one to seal Mephiles in the past. One can't change the future, not even
through time traveling, because them time traveling hasalready happened and
is already a part of the timeline. The same eventsare essentially looping forever
and ever.
You may argue that Sonic going back in time to save Elise is him changing
the future. I'd argue that there could totally be a Sonic from the future saving
Elise in the carrier while Sonic of the present watches it crash. As for the
flames being released, that would probably be the result of Mephiles killing
Sonic, and not yet merging with Iblis. It happens right after the crush, so it
could easily be linked.
However, there's one exception to this rule. Mephiles. Mephiles, as part of an
eternal time God; can change the future, and we know this because of him
merging with Iblis. Mephiles and Iblis merging isn't already a part of the
timeline, because in Silver's future Iblis is free on his own. The exact same
events have happened, except for Mephiles merging with Iblis. That's where
my theory that Mephiles has intentionally re-lived this story lots of times comes
from. So in essence, the final story is just Mephiles choosing to finally change
the timeline and to merge with Iblis.
But that's what's important! He changed the timeline. A timeline where
Solaris is reformed has never happened before. That's what allows our
heroes to actually change the future in the final story. Them defeating
Solaris and traveling back couldn't have been a pre-existing part of the
timeline because Solaris being there already wasn't. Mephiles merging with
Solaris and creating a new line of events is what allowed our heroes the
opportunity to change the future.
As for Silver in future games being able to change the future, I honestly don't
have an explanation. But you can't really fault 06 for what future games did.
If you didn't understand this one just ask for further explanation.
9. Why is time travel Chaos Control never used again in any future games?
Shadow only figures out he can travel through time to that effect, because of
Mephiles’ time travel feeling similar to his own. Since the events of 06 are
erased from the timeline, Shadow would never have the chance to learn that,
and nobody would know they can do that.
A lot of people have been attributing Silver's time travel in future games to that
ability, but that's simply not possible, since it requires two people who can
perform Chaos Control.
10. Is Sonic in a hurry to get back to the past?
Not really. All Sonic says is that they have to get there in time. He doesn't
exhibit much worry about getting there quickly. Beyond that, Sonic isn't really
used to the ability of time travel.
11. How did Elise not ever tear up in her life?
I always interpreted the "not crying" rule, as related more to the emotion than
the physical manifestation of tears. It's really the sadness that results in tears
that Elise isn't allowed to feel, or more accurately let out. The flames are said to
have been in the royal family before Elise herself. And the flashbacks show her
father cementing the idea of not crying to her long before he dies, which is why
she'd make sure to never do so.
As for how she didn't cry when she lost her father, I honestly can't explain that
part.
12. Does the reset at the end make 06's story useless?
Not really. Sonic 06 is written around the reset in the end. It's what allows it to
introduce crazy paradoxes and powers without screwing over the rest of the
series. Beyond that, Sonic 06 accomplishes something with each story. Sonic's
and Silver's stories are self-contained, and work on their own merits. Meanwhile
Shadow's story is there to characterize him after the events of Shadow, and
show us how strong his bond with Team Dark is. All of those stories work, even
if the characters don’t remember them.
13. Why do Silver and Blaze try to seal Iblis back in their future?
Silver and Blaze do not know that Sonic can't change the future. They don't
necessarily go to the future knowing that they'll have to seal Iblis. As far as they
care, if Sonic succeeds and saves Elise, Iblis will be passed down in the royal
family and never be released (or he will be released much later). The reason
they take the two Emeralds is A) Our heroes had already taken two Emeralds
from their future, and B) In case Sonic failed, they would still have a way to seal
Iblis.
14. How can Mephiles teleport all the Emeralds to himself?
Mephiles, and Solaris in general, seem to be connected to the Chaos
Emeralds. They're necessary to seal them or to merge them. Mephiles uses a
purple Emerald, and later a green and yellow Emerald to enhance his power.
Beyond that, Chaos Control has been depicted to have time warping abilities,
and Shadow mentions that Mephiles' time travel feels just like his own Chaos
Control.
Through that we can infer that Mephiles’ powers are essentially, really
powerful Chaos Control. Sonic and Shadow together can use two Emeralds
to time travel, but Mephiles can do it without any, and on his own. Chaos
Control can allow someone to teleport without even an Emerald, but
Mephiles can use an Emerald to teleport the rest to him. Both of those are
natural extensions of the Chaos Control we know.
15. Why does Shadow throw the green Emerald through the portal?
Shadow is about to face Mephiles, who he is pretty certain is a bad guy. If he
gets defeated, him getting his hands on Shadow's Emerald isn't the best idea.
He also saw Omega on sleep mode, so it's plausible he got the same idea as
Rouge, just earlier than her.
16a. How is it possible for Omega to have defeated Shadow in the future if
he was in stand by mode?
The plausible explanation was that his stand by mode was somehow
surpassed, by the humans that hunted Shadow. Omega did what he was told
to, and then returned to his designated mission from so long ago.
16b. How does nobody take the Emerald from Omega?
The Emerald was from the future, meaning that it wasn't part of the original 7
(just like Elise's blue Chaos Emerald). Beyond that, Rouge never told GUN
what she wanted Omega for. It's totally possible no one suspected Omega
somehow had an 8th Chaos Emerald inside him.
17. How does the white Emerald exist if Silver took it with him from
the past to his future?
This plot hole has an explanation, though it's not intuitive. It's possible that the
white Emerald Silver takes to the future isn't the one’ Elise's father used, but
one he found in Sonic's present. Thus, all previous events involving the white
Chaos Emerald go uninterrupted.
18. Can the Emeralds be used to revive the dead?
No. The vague explanation given as to how Sonic is revived, is that his soul
is still around in the wind, simply out of his body. Silver even mentions
"rescuing Sonic's soul" and Elise mentions she can "feel his essence in the
wind." While, granted, like a lot of these, it's never properly explained, we
can infer that due to the rift in time and space, Sonic's soul is still there
among the rest of the heroes.
19. Can Amy turn invisible?
This is a bit of a joke entry. No, it's simply part of her gameplay. If you really
want to make it canon, one could argue that Tails gave her a device to do so
after she kept sneaking around and trying to save Sonic. The reason she
doesn't use it when accidentally rescuing Elise is because it's on a cooldown.
