Lab Report

Experiment No.: 04

Date: 08.04.2025

Experiment Name: Implementation of Summing Amplifier using OP-AMP 741

Objective

Objective:

To implement a summing amplifier circuit using an OP-AMP 741 and to observe and verify its

performance.

Apparatus

Apparatus:

- Breadboard

- Connecting wires

- Resistors (10kOhm)

- OP-AMP 741

- Dual power supply

- Multimeter / Oscilloscope

Theory

Theory:

A summing amplifier is a type of operational amplifier circuit which performs the mathematical

operation of summation. It uses the inverting configuration of OP-AMP.

Lab Report

Equation:

Vo = - (Rf/R1 * V1 + Rf/R2 * V2)

For Rf = R1 = R2 = 10kOhm, the equation becomes:

Vo = -(V1 + V2)

Circuit Implementation

Circuit Implementation:

- OP-AMP 741 used on a breadboard

- +15V and -15V supplied to pins 7 and 4 respectively

- Pin 2 is the inverting input

- Pin 3 is grounded (non-inverting input)

- Output taken from pin 6

Observation Table

Observation Table:

V1 (V) | V2 (V) | Vo = -(V1+V2) (V) | Vo (Measured) (V) | % Error

---------------------------------------------------------------

0.5 | 1 | -1.5 | -0.867 | 42.2%

2 | 2.5 | -4.5 | -4.5 | 0.00%

2 |3 | -5.0 | -4.6 | 8.00%

1 |2 | -3.0 | -2.6 | 13.33%

2 |2 | -4.0 | -3.6 | 10.00%

Conclusion

Conclusion:

The summing amplifier was successfully implemented using OP-AMP 741. The theoretical and

measured outputs are close, with minor variations likely due to resistor tolerance and OP-AMP

imperfections.
