PERFORMANCE TASK: DEBATE


12- Gemelina
S.Y. 2025-2026

MECHANICS OF THE DEBATE:


1. There will be two sides—the Affirmative and the Negative.
2. The aim of each side is to use arguments to explain their side to the panel of critics.
3. Use arguments with few fallacies and bias as much as possible.
4. Each side has three speakers:
Constructive Speaker: State your main argument. Time limit: 8 minutes
1st Rebuttal: Time limit: 4 min
2nd Rebuttal: Time limit: 4 min
5. There will be a break of 2 minutes after each speaker.
6. At the end of the debate, the panel of critics will be given a chance to ask questions to each team. Follow-up
questions are not allowed. Each team is only given one (1) minute to respond to each question.
7. Here is the flow of the debate:

Constructive Speaker Affirmative Side (8 min)

Constructive Speaker Negative Side (8 min)

2 min break

1st Rebuttal of Affirmative Side (4 min)

2 min break

1st Rebuttal of Negative Side (4 min)

2 min break

2nd Rebuttal of Affirmative Side (4 min)

Concluding Speech of Affirmative (4 min)

8. Wear FORMAL clothing.


9. You can use any language in your speech.
10. Topics:
1. Is technology effective to enhance learning?
2. Can political dynasty help in the development of our country?
3. Legalization of abortion: Agree or Disagree
11. Schedule: July 8, 2025 (Tue) – 1:00-2:00 PM
July 9, 2025 (Wed) – 1:00-2:00 PM
3:00 – 4:00 PM
12. For determining the winner for the debate, please refer to the attached rubric.
