CHARITABLE HOSPITAL

Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama Charitable Hospital was


started in 1940 in Sasthamangalam as an extension of
the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama (since 1916), Nettayam,
Thiruvananthapuram, a branch of the world world-wide
Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission with its
headquarters at Belur, Dist. Howrah, West Bengal. The
untiring efforts of the local people headed by Srimat
Swami Tapasyanandaji, the then President, was
instrumental in building up this hospital which serves the
public irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
We are having 330 bedded Speciality parent
hospital. This hospital provides modern medical
treatment under the specialties of General Medicine,
General
eral Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Orthopaedics,
Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Psychiatry,
Ophthalmology, ENT, Dentistry, Dermatology, Cardiology,

SRI RAMAKRISHNA SARADA SCHOOL OF NURSING

General:
Sri Sarada School of Nursing attached to Sri
Ramakrishna Ashram Charitable Hospital was started in
1962 with auxiliary nurse and midwife training. Fifteen
students used to be enrolled every year for the two year
course, which was stopped in 1980.
The General Nursing and Midwifery course was
started in 1978 with an intake of twenty students every
year. Since 1991 the intake was increased to twenty-five
students and from 2018 thirty students are being
admitted in this course. The duration of the course is 3
years.
The Sri Sarada School of nursing was
discontinued for two years (2022 and 2023) while it
was upgraded to Sri Sarada College of Nursing. Again,
the school of nursing restarted with the name SRK
Sarada School of Nursing in 2024, with an intake of 40
students.
Our Motto:
We believe not only in imparting professional education
to the students to become dedicated nurses but also in
helping them in securing continuous development of their
personality as individuals and useful citizens.
We believe that the basic course in nursing should prepare
nurses for first level positions in nursing in both the
hospital and the community, that skill in all aspects of
communication is essential for learning and for the
practice of nursing and that the practice of nursing
requires a good understanding of basic scientific
principles.

We recognize the interdependence of nursing and
allied professions and occupations in promoting,
maintaining and restoring health.
We believe that we have responsibility in helping
the student to develop pride in the profession and in
guiding her with respect to her future in nursing.
Selected candidates will be admitted on the Ist
working day of October every year. The Kerala nurses'
and Midwives' council shall conduct written and practical
examinations at the end of each year.
General objective of the course
1. The candidate on completion of this course will be
able to:
a. Asses the nursing need of clients from birth to death.
b. Plan and carry out appropriate action to meet
nursing needs.
c. Provide effective nursing care to maintain best
possible level of health in all aspects.
d. Promote self care in people under their care.
e. Apply problem solving techniques in nursing practice.
f. Evaluate effectiveness of nursing care.
2. Apply knowledge from the humanities, biological
and behavioral sciences in functioning as a nurse.
3. Function effectively with members of the health team
and community applying the knowledge of human
relations and communication skill in her work.

4. Participate as a member of the health team in delivery
of curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative
health care services.
5. Demonstrate use of ethical values in their personal
and professional life.
6. Demonstrate interest in activites of professional
organization.
7. Recognize the need for continuing education for
professional development.
8. Demonstrate basic skills in teaching patients and
giving nursing care to them.
9. Demonstrate basic skills in administration and
leadership while working with other members of
health team and community.

Eligibility for admission to GNM Course:
Candidates for admission to GNM should have passed
10, +2 or equivalent examination with minimum of 40%
marks from any recognized board and English as on
subject. Candidates belonging to SC/ST category with
pass mark are eligible for application. Science group
with Physics, Chemistry, Biology will be given
preference. In the absence of candidates with Science
group, candidates from other groups also will be considered.

Candidates from State Open School recognized by
State Government and National Institute of Open School
(NIOS) recognized by Central Government are also
eligible for admission.
Registered ANM also can apply.
Candidates who have passed 10, +2 Health Care
Science-Vocational stream from a recognized CBSE /
State/Central board are also eligible for application.
Reservation
a. For disabled candidates: 5% disability reservation is
considered for candidates with a disability of locomotor
to the tune of 40% to 50% of the lower extremity.
Other eligibility criteria with regard to age and
qualification will be same as prescribed for the GNM
programme. Medical certificate should be obtained
from authorized Medical Board of State Government.
b. Any other quotas as per the State Govt. under the
reservation policy.
Note: Quotas shall be applicable within the sanctioned
number of the seats and not above it.
Age:
Minimum age for admission will be 17 years. (as
on 31st December 2025).
Duration of the Course:
Duration of the Diploma Course in General Nursing
and Midwifery shall be 3 years. The maximum period

allowed to complete General Nursing and Midwifery
Course is 6 years.
Syllabus:
Syllabus of the course shall be the revised General
Nursing Midwifery Syllabus 2015 of the Indian Nursing
Council.
No. of Seats:
The total number of the seats to General Nursing
and Midwifery Course at Sri Ramakrishna Sarada School
of Nursing is 40
Application Form:
Application form for admission to the course can
be had from the Principals of School of Nursing on
payment of Rs. 250/-. The applicants desiring to have
the forms sent to them by post should remit Rs.300/- for
each application form. Application forms of previous
years will not be accepted.
Documents to be submitted along with the
Application are:
a. Self attested copy of the relevant page of S.S.L.C.
or Class 10 or equivalent certificate to prove the
date of birth.

b. Self attested copies of Mark lists of all parts of Higher


Secondary (+2) or equivalent Examination and pass
certificate in the qualifying examination.

c. Equivalency certificate from Higher Secondary
Board, Kerala, for candidates who have completed
qualifying examination from outside Kerala State.
Student should bring admit card from HS Board
or Certificate from HS Board which has been mentioned
as Regular Course.
d. For foreign nationals, the entry qualification equivalency
i.e., ~~th standard can be obtained from Association
of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
e. Copy of recent Conduct Certificates (not prior to
six months) from the Head of the Institution in which
the candidate studied last.
f. Caste and income certificate from Village Officer/
Tahsildar if the candidate is to be considered under
any reservation seat (SC/ST, OBC). There is no
need for income certificate for SC/ST candidates.
How and when to apply
Application forms correctly filled up together with the
above mentioned documents should be sent by Registered
Post so as to reach the "Principal, Sri Ramakrishna
Sarada School of Nursing SRKAC Hospital,
Sasthamangalam, Thiruvananthapuram-695010".
The envelope should be superscribed "Application for
Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery for the
year 2025-2026.

Late, incomplete and defective applications will be
rejected.
Mode of admission:
Admission to Diploma in General Nursing and
Midwifery will be made on merit as assessed on the
basis of the total marks secured by the candidates for
Part III optional subjects at the Plus two examination/
equivalent examination. Science group with Physics,
Chemistry, Biology is preferable. In the absence of
candidates with science group, candidates with other
groups also will be considered.
If there is a tie in the total marks in the optional subjects,
the candidate with higher marks in English at the +2, /
equivalent examination will be ranked higher. In case
there is still a tie, the candidate with higher total aggregate
marks in +2/equivalent examination will be ranked higher.
If there is still a tie, the rank will be decided on the basis
of date of birth, i.e., the elder person will be ranked higher.
Selection
Candidates will be called for interview and certificate
verification by Selection Committee and select list will
be prepared by the Committee. Candidates should
produce original certificates and documents for
verification at the time of interview.

3. Nursing Superintendent
4. Principal of the School of Nursing
5. Vice Principal of the School of Nursing
The select list will be published by the Principal, School
of Nursing on the day of interview.
Anti-Ragging
According to the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act.
1998, 'Ragging' means doing of any act by disorderly
conduct to a student of an educational institution, which
causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological
ha r m or rai si ng apprehens i on or sh ame or
embarrassment to student and includes teasing or
abusing or playing practical jokes or causing hurt to such
students or asking a student to do any act or to perform
something which such students will not in the ordinary
course be willing to do.
All institutions will have to abide by the directives of the
Honourable Supreme Court of India. Dated May 16 2007
in SLP No. (S) 24295 of 2006 University of Kerala Vs.
Council Principal's Colleges, Kerala & Ors. [with SLP
(C) no. 24296-99/2004 and WP (Crl.) No. 173/2006 &

SLP (C) No. 14356/2005] and the recommendations
approved by the Honourable Supreme Court of India on
effective prevention of ragging in educational institutions.
In case the applicant for admission is found to have
indulged in ragging in the past or if it is noticed later he/
she shall be expelled from the educational institutions.
Each of the student of the institutions and his/her
parents or guardian are required to submit a combined,
undertaking at the time of registration/admission in
prescribed format available in Annexure II which is
mandatory for registration/admission.
Concession:
Selected candidates are eligible for educational
concession/Scholarship/grants/admissible for SC/ST/
OBC candidates.
Free residence facility will be provided to
candidates, The student will be directly under the
disciplinary control of the Principal and Warden. They are
also under the overall disciplinary control of the
Adhyaksh or the person authorized by him and will be
subject to disciplinary action in case of violation of
discipline. In such matters the decision of the Adhyaksh
is final. Students will be allowed to go home only on
stipulated Annual holidays. Guardians/ parents can meet
their wards at the campus on visiting day.

Students will be subject to dismissal at any
time for misconduct, inefficiency or Repeated
neglect of duty.
Discipline:
1. Students should wake-up by 5.00am.
2. They should attend the Roll Call at 7.30am.
3. They should attend evening prayer from 6.30pm
to 7.30pm.
4. They should strictly maintain punctuality.
5. They should not get engaged or have outside friends
while staying in the campus pursuing the course.
6. Students and their relatives are strictly forbidden from
giving or accepting money or gifts of any kind to
or from patients, patients' relatives or staff.
7. Students should not bring or use any jewellary except a
pair of small ear studs without pearl or stone and a
small chain to be worn inside the upper garment.
The institution shall not in any way be held responsible
for theft or loss of any personal belongings of the
students.
8. Students should not use nail polish or 'mailanchi'/
Mehandi.
9. Without prior permission of the Principal no student
be absent herself from duty.

10. Students are not permitted to visit the hospital
wards or any department without specific permission
from the Principal and, if permitted, they should go
in uniform only.
11. Students shall receive visitors only at appointed hours
and approved places.
12. Students are responsible for cleanliness of their
rooms and surroundings.
13. Attending common prayers and classes on moral
education is compulsory.
14. Incoming phone calls will not be connected to students.
Messages will be conveyed. They will be permitted to
call parents once in a week from the warden's room.
15. Mobile phones and cameras, etc. are not allowed.
Rules and Regulations
1. Academic Conduct
 Attendance - Minimum of 80% Attendance is

mandatory for theory and 100% for clinical


practice.
 Punctuality- students must be punctual for
classes, clinical postings and other scheduled
activities.
 Examinations-students must appear for all

internal andexternal examination as per the


scheduledand meet minimum passing criteria.
 Assignments-All academic assignments, and
practical records must be submitted on time.
2. Clinical conduct
 Uniform- proper and complete uniform,
including ID

card and appropriate footwear, must
be worm during clinical postings.
 Hygiene-

 Patient care - Ethical, respectful, and safe care
must be provided to patients.

kept confidential at all times.

6. Consequences of misconduct
 Violation of rules may lead to warnings,
suspension or dismissal based on the severity of the
offence

Fees:
If the applicant discontinue the course in
between, he/she should pay the fees for the entire
course to compensate the loss of the Institution.

Library:
Books are to be used with extreme care. If a book
issued to any student is lost or damaged the cost will be
recovered.
Vacation:
4 weeks for I st year and II nd year and 2 Weeks for
rd
III year
Leave:
If any other absence apart from regular annual
vacation will have to be made up by the students before
completing the course.

EXTRA LEAVE: Students are liable to undergo GNM


course and its syllabus as stipulated by Indian Nursing
Council.

Medical Examination:
Selected Candidates will have to undergo a
detailed Medical Examination at our Hospital on their
expense and will be admitted to the course only on being
found fit.

ALL PAYMENTS SHOULD BE MADE IN CASH,


BANK OR DEMAND DRAFT ONLY. The Demand Draft
should be drawn in favour of "Sri Ramakrishna
Ashrama Charitable Hospital, Payable at
Thiruvananthapuram."

On admission each student shall bring with her the
following items:
(a) A suitcase with lock and key.
(b) Three set of colour sarees and blouses, one red
coloured blouse and one black coloured blouse.
(c) Four sets of under garments and two sets each of
coloured churidars and sarees and blouses (not silk
or shining material) for personal use.
(d) one plate, one curry plate and one tumbler
(e) Two face towels, two bath towels, sanitary napkins,
handkerchiefs, two bed sheets, two pillow cases,
one medium thickness 30 inch width mattress and
one or two pillows.
(f) Soap with soap dish, comb, mirror, tooth paste and
brush.

(g) Umbrella, torch light and measuring tape (5 feet)
(h) A pair of white open shoes with two pairs of white
socks and a pair of black leather chappals with flat heel
support.
(i) One pair of slippers for personal use.
(j) Wrist watch with second hand needle.
(k) Plastic bucket and mug.
(l) One pair of small scissors, thread and needle, pen,
lead pencil, eraser, rubber, coloured pencils and scale.
(m) Ten 200 page note books and one ream white paper.
(n) Two passport size photos of the student.
(o) Attested xerox copies of SSLC certificate — 5 nos.
(p) Attested xerox copies of Plus Two certificate — 3 nos.
List of candidates selected for interview will
generally be put up on the School notice board.
As per Supreme Court order "if any incident of
ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the
concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if
the explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority
would expel her from the institution."

Any student causing distress to any other/junior
student will prima faces be considered to have been
engaged in ragging and be subject to disciplinary action
as per the above directions.
Educational Loan:
All Nationalized Banks are providing Educational
Loans to students which is to be repaid only after
completing the course. The necessary documents for
availing Loan will be issued to deserving candidates.
However it may take 2 to 3 months for processing and
therefore the initial payment has to be arranged for
time being by the candidates herself.
