Probability Concepts Assignment
Greenfield High School – Probability Activities
Activity 1: Definitions in Context
1. Experiment
A process that results in one or more outcomes.
Example: Rolling a die or flipping a coin.
2. Sample Space
The set of all possible outcomes of an experiment.
Group A: {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}
Group B: {H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6, T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6}
3. Event
A specific outcome or a set of outcomes from the sample space.
Example: Rolling an even number (Event = {2, 4, 6})
4. Outcome
A single result of an experiment.
Example: Rolling a 3 or getting Heads and a 5.
5. Probability
The likelihood of a specific outcome occurring.
1
P(Event)=Number of favorable outcomes/Total number of outcomes
6. Mutually Exclusive Events
Events that cannot happen at the same time.
Example: Rolling an even number and an odd number on a single die roll.
7. Independent Events
Events where the outcome of one does not affect the other.
Example: Flipping a coin and then rolling a die.
Activity 2: Workshop Participation
Venn Diagram
Using the data:
● Leadership only = 20
● Team Building only = 30
● Both = 50
● Neither = 50 (outside both circles)

Tree Diagram
Probabilities:
● P(L) = 70/150
- P(T | L) = 50/70
- P(T′ | L) = 20/70
● P(L′) = 80/150
- P(T | L′) = 30/80
3
- P(T′ | L′) = 50/80

Activity 3: Probability Calculations
CASE 1 – With Replacement
● P(Green) = 8/12
● P(Yellow) = 4/12
● Balls are replaced, so probabilities remain the same:
P (Green→Yellow) =812 × 412 = 32144 = 29
CASE 2 – Without Replacement
● P(Green first) = 8/12
● After removing a green ball, 11 balls remain:
- Yellow = 4
● P (Yellow second) = 4/11
P (Green→Yellow) = 812 × 411= 32132 = 833
