Name: SHERWIN T. APOSTOL

Background:
Sherwin grew up in Orani, Bataan, surrounded by life’s
simple yet meaningful joys. At just eight years old, Sherwin
discovered his talent for drawing—scribbling on paper,
creating shapes and figures that slowly turned into
something more. “My family has always been my biggest

inspiration and mentor,” Sherwin proudly shares. It’s a

heartfelt sentiment that captures the core of his journey—
one rooted in love, support, and the belief that talent, no
matter how small it begins, can flourish when nurtured.
Now a proud graduate of Bataan Peninsula State
University, Sherwin reflects on how his family’s
encouragement shaped his artistry. Their constant support
and gentle guidance taught him to see beauty in the simplest
things and express it through his art. “They’ve always

believed in me,” he says, “and that’s what keeps me going,

even when it gets hard.”
For Sherwin, creating art is about telling his story and
honoring the people who’ve been by his side every step of
the way. He dreams of sharing his work with the world,
hoping to inspire young artists to embrace their talents and
keep creating, no matter the challenges they face. “It doesn’t
matter where you start,” Sherwin reflects, “as long as you
keep pushing forward, you’ll get there.”

John Paul David is an emerging artist born in Bataan.

He mainly works with oil and is best known for his attention
to detail and his use of organic shapes in his compositions,
which are formed by image cut-ups and abstract chaos. His
inclination toward biomorphi shapes can be traced back to
his childhood memories of his hometown, where local
artisans employed organic-shaped curtains in festival
decorations.
Having a background in portraiture from a very young
age set the stage for him as an artist. He actively
experiments with and explores different styles and

techniques while carrying with him the craft and

fundamentals of realism, which can create a representational
tendency in how certain shapes are rendered, creating a
perfect balance between craft and expression.
The artist is fascinated by how written language
commands our daily life, yet he naturally finds himself
communicating more with images. That is why he crafted an
image-making system that merges distorted and rearranged
grapheme from certain words with images reduced to
abstraction like silhouettes and outlines, allowing him to tap

into both powers of words and images and to create distinct,

structured, and powerful compositions that he can use as his
personal language or a tool for articulating contents beyond
and within his emotional landscape.
