Juxtaposition In The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas
In the short story The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas, Ursula Le Guin uses juxtaposition
to display messages and stimulate the readers mind. All attention is drawn to the morality of the
situation, and the rhetorical question what would one do, walk away from Omelas or stay . Le
Guin creates images of both viewpoints of those living in the society by using juxtaposition. This
triggers the question to stay or leave when visualizing the good and the bad that makes up
Omelas. First and foremost, from the start of the story Omelas is described in a positive light,
through words and phrases such as, merry , sparkled , and shimmering of gong and tambourine .
Repetition is used to influence the importance of the positive energy and outlook of Omelas. For
example music and dancing is used multiple times in just the first paragraph demonstrating its
uplifting feel. Also mentioned in the beginning is the view of eighteen peaks burned with white
gold fire across the sunlit air, this symbolizes the heaven like aspect of Omelas and high value of
their society (Le Guin 1). Based off of the first page one can come to the generalization that the city
of Omelas is a utopia. However, in this particular society they need to force their blame, hate and
negativity onto someone else they need a scapegoat. For them to keep this overall greater good and
happiness for everyone, one must suffer. The readers come to this conclusion when they are
introduced to the tortured... Show more content on [Link] ...
It is believed that moral behavior could be shaped by conditioning, it is also found that morality is
learned in stages (What Makes Me tick? 28). Those in Omelas who don t care about the suffering
child are in lower stages of morality. They are only concerned with their own pleasure and are
individualistic. This assembles the connection between those who walk away from Omelas and how
they are in a higher stage of
Essay on Electric Cars, Past and Present
One of the main components of an electric vehicle (EV) is the controller. The controller takes
power from the batteries and delivers it to the motor. To do this the accelerator pedal is hooked up
to a pair of potentiometers, which provide the signal which tells the controller how much power it
needs to deliver. For safety there are two potentiometers, the controller reads both potentiometers to
make sure that their signal are the same, if the signals are not equal then the controller will not
operate. For a car with a 300V battery the controller takes that DC voltage from the battery and
converts it into a maximum of 240 volts AC to sent to the motor. This is done by using large
transistors to quickly turn the batteries voltage on and off... Show more content on [Link] ...
Unlike the DC controller, in an AC controller the polarity of the voltage must be reversed 60 times
a second. For each phase there must be one set of transistors to pulse the voltage and another to
reverse the polarity. So there must be six sets of transistors in an AC controller, instead of just one
as in a DC controller.
A controller pulses the power more that 15,000 times per second so human cannot hear it. The
pulsed current caused the motor housing to vibrate at that frequency, so by pulsing more than
15,000 times a second the controller and motor are silent to human ears.
The electric motor is also vastly more efficient than the internal combustion engine. The process of
converting fuel into rotary motion at the vehicle s flywheel generates a massive amount of heat
caused by the combustion process and internal engine friction.
Around two thirds of the total energy produced in the process is wasted into the atmosphere as heat,
leaving the remaining third as power to propel the vehicle. Typical electric motors used in EVs have
efficiencies of around 90%. That means very little of the energy consumed in the process of
converting stored electricity in the batteries, to forward vehicle motion, is wasted.
MOTOR TYPES
There are numerous motor types available but the most common types seen in EVs are AC

Hard Rock Cafe Case Study
[Link] the strategy changes that have taken place at Hard Rock Café since its founding in 1971.
The first Hard Rock Cafe opened its doors to the public on June 14, 1971, in London, England.
Founded by Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton, two enterprising and music loving Americans,
beginning with a guitar, it is only a joke among the friends at first, later on founder of the band
Cream and Derek the Dominoes sent a guitar of his here, and has booked a desk for a long time.
From then on, the other guitars were sent here continually, have not stopped at all times. Hard Rock

The 10 decisions of Operation Management are: Service and Product Design; Quality; Process and
Capacity Design; Location; Layout Design; Human Resource; Supply Chain Management;
Inventory; Scheduling; Maintenance. Hard Rock is bringing the concept of the experience economy
to its cafe operation. This innovation is somewhat akin to mass customization in manufacturing. At
Hard Rock, the experience concept is to provide not only a custom meal from the menu, but a dining
event that includes a unique visual and sound experience not duplicated anywhere in the world.
Here, we first discuss the Product Design and Quality: When Hard Rock Cafe is founded, first
rate, but moderately priced casual American fare, warm service and ever present rock n roll music
and sensibility, it was initially decorated with an eye toward eclectic American. What started as an
American dinner in the heart of London has blossomed into a way of life. Now, social norms and
preferences often suggest some tweaking of menus for local taste. The following is several examples:
In Europe, particularly in British, there is still some fear of mad cow diseases. Therefore, Hard
Rock Café is focusing less on hamburgers and beef and more on fish and lobster in its British
cafes. Such as, it has Veggie Burger A burger patty made of vegetables, cheese and spices served on

Essay The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
Methodological Introduction
This paper attempts to link the facet of queer theory that explains gender and sexuality as culturally
constructed identities, with the presence of the berdache in the New World at the time of the
Spanish conquest. By analyzing the construction of gender and sexuality among the native peoples,
in contrast to the ideologies of the Spanish, I found a clash arose which explained, in some sense, the
incompatibility of the two cultures. The differences between the two cultures gender construction
established support for the very un natural or in essential nature of gender, sexuality, and the body as
a means of self identity. By realizing the issue of power and ... Show more content on

The clash of gender identity existing between these two cultures led to misrepresentations of the
natives by the Spaniards.
It is also necessary, before diving into the concepts of this paper, that I elucidate the terms which I
will be using, as they are easily confused. Gender, in the context of this paper will describe the sets
of culturally prescribed behaviors, actions, and functions assigned to a particular sex. Sex, when
used as an adjective, will refer to the biological or chromosomal physical identity which separates
males from females. Sexuality, like gender, will be used to define individuals on the basis of their
cultural/social role within society, but not as an unchangeable feature of a person s identity. It is
important to distinguish the meaning of these terms because as they are commonly used, they are
usually considered synonyms in some way. By separating and elucidating their meanings, I hope to
further press the queer theorist argument that gender and identity within one s sexuality are deeply
imbedded in social influences.
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Spanish encountered many things upon treading their first steps onto the soil of a new and
mysterious continent. The natives were a group so foreign, the Spaniards questioned whether they
were even human. This experience of contact, then conquest and colonization introduced
Simulation Proliferation and the City Essay
Simulation Proliferation and the City
Mr. Hand wears all black, is tall, thin, and pale. He floats around a dark city and ends far too many
lines with a creepy self affirming yesss. In Dark City (Alex Proyas 1998) we see over and over
again indications of the tropes and repetitions that make up the urban/filmic imagination. Not quite
vampires, not quite grey aliens, not quite business men, not quite religious, not quite serial
murderers, Mr. Hand and the other Strangers seem to be archetypal characters of the city. Is the
imagination a domesticating function, territorializing wild occurrence and happenstance into termed
rearrangements of what has come before? Or is it an explosive and infinite fountain of creativity?

But, with all the majesty and persuasiveness the Earth can muster, he alone has made clear all that
was before so very puzzling. Fantasy, though not specified in the film, seems defined simply as a
contrast to reality, as a failure to, as Sebastian s father requests, get your head down out of the clouds
and start keeping both your feet on the ground, right. Gmork aligns the father with the controlled
masses: the sucker has abandoned his hopes and dreams and is trying to convert young and still
wonderful Sebastian into the same wretched polity. The mise en scene

countries such as Göteborg3, Malmö, and Uppsala. Norway, Finland and Denmark can be seen
to be neighboring countries. Sweden has a total of 231 airports which can be very beneficial for
importing and exporting goods around the world (C.I.A., World Fact Book). Also, Sweden is
right beside the Baltic Ocean meaning it is able to transport through various water ways. The
country surely uses this ability very well be cause it transports items to 189 countries including
Canada as well, and it also has major seaports in Brofjorden, Goteborg, Helsingborg, Karlshamn,
Lulea, Malmo, Stockholm, Trelleborg, and Visby. Sweden has a decent railways system as well
adding up to 11,915 km, however it is very slow and makes transporting goods very lengthy. (C.I.A.,

Rna Methylation Lab Report
The honey bee population is diminishing every year, especially during the winter. There are various
factors that have affected this decline such as pesticides, pathogens( Varroa destructor), and
antibiotics. Israeli acute paralysis virus(IAPV) is one of the most prevalent viruses in weak colonies
that do not survive the winter. Antiviral responses can be followed by either the Janus kinase signal
transducers and activators of transcription pathway or the RNAInterference (RNAi) pathways.
These responses follow various steps to avoid total infection; for RNAi, the RNA is split into many
pieces and find the mRNA with the same sequence. The one used in this study is the RNAi pathway
and DNAmethylation. These epigenetic mechanisms can modify DNA and RNA sequences without
altering the original sequence. The DNA methylation happens in the bee s genebody. Question. In
this experiment DNA methylation will be studied with honey bees that have IAPV. They will be
focusing on body fat tissue, metabolism sites, and in immunity to discover if... Show more content on

In this experiment it was shown that the DNA methylation is inversely correlated with the
expression of the genes, IAPV. The longer the stain the less methylated it was. It also shows the
honey bee response is different from human response that had been studied. Implication. This
experiment shows that there is a correlation of IAPV with the decreasing number of bees during
the winter. This is proved by the molecular studies. Further studies need to be conducted on the
molecular aspect. Interesting facts. It was found that as a faster immune response to the virus
RNA polymerase II gets paused. Weaknesses. The study was done on a very limited number of
hives. The bees were not exposed to their natural conditions in the incubator. Relevance to project.
This is relevant to my project because I will be working with honey bee while doing molecular
studies. This gives me insight to the molecular aspect of the
King Louis Xiv Of France
L État, c est moi ( I am the state ). Throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth century, absolute
monarchs ruled many countries and states. In an absolutist state, power and sovereignty is embodied
within one person. Absolute kings attempted to control competing institutions and jurisdictions in
their state, and secured power with the nobility. An absolute monarchyhas total political power over
its sovereign state and people. King Louis XIV of Franceand Tsar Peter the Great of Russia were
both absolute monarchs. These two monarchs satisfied the four characteristics of absolutism:
divine right of kings, meaning they were chosen by God; skilled bureaucracy, where decisions
are made by the state; control of the economy, absolute monarchs had control of money and
trading; and lastly a professional army, the absolutist must have a permanent standing army. King
Louis XIV of France was born on September 5, 1638, he became King at age five, in 1643, and his
reign lasted until 1715. King Louis XIV satisfied the four conditions of absolutism. The divine
right of kings meant Louis received his power directly from God, loyalty to the King meant loyalty
to God. The Sun King was a name given to Louis XIV. This name associated him with the gods; the
planets revolve around the sun, as France revolves around Louis. He also had a skilled
administration, which was a large bureaucracy of departments that advised him and supported his
decisions. Louis isolated the nobles and relinquished
