Ayesha: This story is about a girl who experienced what’s it like to work in the real world.
We prepared a
short skit. Enjoy!
Aliyah: We finally graduated and got our college diploma! I felt like I was taken out of a prison cell.
Hannah: I feel the same! We have been studying in an all-girls school for 8 years and it was not easy.
Ysabella: Yes, we had so many rules to follow, the overprotective nuns to worry about, and a lack of
exposure to the real world.
Aliyah: We are finally free! Well, I should get going now, I have to rest and prepare for my 1st job on
Monday. Farewell my dearest friends, I hope to see you again soon!
Ayesha: Little did she know, that life outside the walls of her Alma Mater was more difficult than what
she experienced in school.
Aizel: The next day
Aliyah: I never imagined myself as a writer. But, I finally took the risk once the opportunity to write for a
newspaper came. *Sigh* Wish me luck on my first day!
Chloe: Hello. I am Chloe Laborte and I will be your editor for this job. These are the office staff. You may
go to your desk and I will be there shortly.
Aliyah: I feel so alone. I have to survive independently rather than work in groups with others. It is too
late to turn back now.
Aliyah: Hey Arashdeep. You know after a few months, Ms. Chloe taught me so many new things. She
coached me in my writing assignments, taught me how to conduct interviews, and made me realize the
importance of patience, discipline, and time. My boss is also very meticulous in so many ways.
Arashdeep: The same goes for me. I also try to meet my boss’s standards.
Aliyah: I do too! My boss is a perfectionist but I came to realize that in the newspaper business, if you
want to succeed, you have to love your work and avoid people that discourage you. I admire her
confidence and her ability to handle any type of situation the most. She was also very considerate to me,
being a fresh graduate. She oriented me on how to deal with clients and patiently reminded me about
the rules of writing. No matter how busy she was, she still managed to train me.
Arashdeep: Oh look at the time! Our break is over, well we better go back to our desks. See you later.
Aliyah: See you later!
Aliyah: I have learned so much from my first job. Every assignment was a learning experience for me. I
met new people, gained friends, and discovered things that were not taught at school.
