The Crucible Comparison
I love you John Proctor. A simple, romantic confession to those who have never seen or read the
Crucible. However those who have been exposed to The Crucible will know that those words are
laced with jealousy. How one may view the crucible is decided by their good judgement, however
how they view it might make or break their experience of getting to know the characters.
Thesis
Although many would argue that the written version of Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, in
viewing the many versions, the movie does the most accurate job of portraying the characters and
the setting where the events took place. Though there are many characters in The Crucible, John
Proctor is one of the most important characters. Do not forget his name because he will never have
another on in his life. John is a main role in the story and has a conflict a romantic one with Abigail
Williams another character in The Crucible. He fights to stop the madness which is the witch
hunting and hanging of the innocent all because of some stupid lie and the lust/greed of a young
girl, He and the young girl, however, are not successful and do not get what they desire.
The actor Daniel Day Lewis went to great lengths to perfect his role as John Proctor himself.
Daniel as of late has thrown in the towel and retired from his acting career. When he was acting, he
was a revered method actor and received many awards for his skill. He used this skill in The
Crucible by learning how to ride a horse as
Multicultural Children
When we think about sexuallity kids usually do not come to mind. By preschool, most kids have
developed a strong sense of being a boy or girl, and continue to explore their bodies even more
purposefully. Downes, S MD(2014 October) Early Sexual Development retrieved from http;/

boy, at such a young age it can be a very difficult and confusing time. How we accepting and nurture
transgendering children has a profound effect on them. When we allow children to transgender they
have better mental health and self esteem. Children understand something is not right and might
need help expressing and understanding what they are feeling. The article discusses a report by KR

Milo Minderbinder s Personality Disorder In Catch 22
Everybody knows that guy or girl who they believe to be nuts. They may have done something
completely bonkers, or have done nothing unacceptable at all. They may have no cause at all, in a
way it takes one to know one. This is different for Yossarian, where everyone he knows is actually
psychotic. Literally, all the characters in Joseph Heller s Catch 22 are completely mental, Yossarianis
constantly falling in love with people that end up not replicating a mutual feeling, Colonel Cathcart

Milo Minderbinder, the biggest loon of them all. Milo Minderbinder is literally out of his mind at
one point in the book he attempted to force the company to consume chocolate covered Egyptian

Why Are Solar Storms A Concern To Earth
[Link] are scientists studying the sun?
Scientists are studying the sun through use of the Solar Dynamics Observatory. This spacecraft
orbits 22,000 miles from Earth, recording changes on the Sun as they happen. This will take place
for 5 years.
[Link] are solar storms a concern to Earth?
Solar storms are a concern to Earth because coronal mass ejections, eruption of a billion tons of
charged particles from the sun s outer atmosphere, can reach Earth in a few days and solar flares,
gigantic explosions on the sun s surface erupting with force of 20 billion nuclear bombs, can reach
Earth in minutes. Earth s outer atmosphere acts as a shield. If large enough an event can move the

Oxidase Enzyme Lab
Title of lab: Temperature Affects the Activity of Enzymes
Name: Vanessa Derner Date: January 26, 2017

Purpose: The purpose of this exercise was to determine the effect of temperature on catechol oxidase
enzyme activity. The optimal temperature range was also determined for the same enzyme in this
experiment.
Results and Discussion: In this experiment, the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction was
determined as well as the color changes at the different temperatures both for the catechol oxidase
enzyme. The tubes were different temperatures. Tubes 1 through 4 were 22 °C, tube 5 was 4°C,
tube 6 was 40°C, and tube 7 was 80°C.
The color in the different tubes varied due to the different conditions of each tube. Tube 1 had ...

At 0 minutes, tube 2 had an absorbance of 0.175 because it only contained the clear catechol
substrate. Tube 3 had an absorbance of 0.775 because the catechol oxidase enzyme made the
solution darker. Tube 4 had an absorbance value of 1.081 because this tube contains both the
catechol substrate and the catechol oxidase enzyme, which react to form benzoquinone. The
same was true for tubes 5 through 7. Tube 5 s absorbance was 1.065, tube 6 s absorbance was
1.078, and tube 7 s was 1.059. At 10 minutes, Tube 2 had a decrease in absorbance to 0.106 due to
little to no reaction occurring. Tube 3 had an absorbance of .955 because it also had very little
reaction occurring. Tube 4 s absorbance was 2.110 due the reaction between the catechol substrate
and the catechol oxidase enzyme, which was turning the solution brown. Tube 5 had an absorbance
of 1.645 because the enzyme substrate reaction was also taking place, but at a slower rate than tube
4 due to the lower temperature in tube 5. The absorbance in tube 6 was 1.833, which means that the
reaction at this temperature was occurring faster than tube 5, but slower than tube 4. Tube 7 had an
absorbance of 1.155 because the high temperature was denaturing the enzyme causing the reaction to
slow or even stop. At 20 minutes, the absorbance of tube 2 stayed about the same with 0.091. Tube
3 had an absorbance of .902, which did not change much
Taking a Look at Gender Wars
It s commonly known for boys to be better than girls. For years it s always been a war against who s
better? Growing up its always been girls and boys could only participate and play with certain
things. It was normally like girls would only be able to play with all the girly things while boys have
play with all the boythings.

Then, you have the perception where females have to only take part in the feminine activities. It
was strong stereotypes were girls was only allowed to be cheerleaders, dancers, writers and poets.
While on another hand boys are the basketball, football and soccer players. The same way goes for
the academics where better at reading and writing while the boys are better at numbers and
chemicals. Majority of these stereotypes are not even legit especially when it comes to the academics.

For example college wasn t the most relevant thing for a female to take interest in at one point in
life. It was like college for females wasn t the most realistic thing. Mainly you would hear a male
going off to college instead. Rather than a female attending college, females didn t started attending
college until the late 1800s early 1900s. By then you started hearing more females attending campus.
Or even thinking about going to a university. As the ratio started to increases with females the
classroom setting started to change as well as the campus.

Colleges started to have more female class options for the girls. The campuses had
Lucretius Beliefs
Epicurus supported that the images people had for gods were varying due to the different
preconceptions that had been implanted to every person separately. Very often there were false
convictions expressed by people even if their preconceptions reflected their own natural goals.
Lucretius protested against voices who presented gods as having evil intents and as prone to
partiality and fury: Unhappy human race, to attribute such behavior, and bitter wrath too, to the
gods! What lamentations did they lay up for themselves in those days, what wounds for us, what
tears for our descendants ? Moreover, Lucretius stated: Unless you expel these ideas from your mind
and drive far away beliefs unworthy of the gods and alien to their tranquillity,... Show more content

Even Epicurus followers were confused and perplexed by Epicurus theology such as Lucretius and
Cicero s Vellius who combined information and syllogisms that satisfied realists as well as idealists.
Both interpretative parties had their own reasons to attach Epicurus both to the realistic and the
idealistic context and both of them had to defend their theories against arguments that worth
consideration. I personally believe that Epicurus was more an idealist than a realist. He obviously
stated that there are gods a statement that could easily describe him as a realist but the fact that he
encouraged people to construct the conception of god and that their true nature, lifestyle and way of
thinking were completely unknown to people compel me to believe that Epicurus was idealist and
gods were merely thought constructs articulating people s unrealistic view of the life they desired.
Philodemus mentioned that Epicurus involved himself in all the traditional festival and sacrifices .
However, this attestation does not prove that Epicurus was surely devoutly religious and believed
that gods were existing living beings; he could have acted in that way to give a boost to his social
status or even to protect himself from the dangerous accusations of
The Swing Era
My audience was my life. What I did and how I did it, was all for my audience , these words came
from the well known and never forgotten Cab Calloway. His style and mix of blues, swing and
scat spread like wildfire and filled many peoples lives with joy, excitement and happiness. Cab
Calloway broke the boundaries of racial barriers and become a very popular and influential
household name. As stated in the JazzProfiles from NPR, A truly larger than life figure in American
pop culture...Calloway also led one of the greatest bands of the Swing Era (Ossman).

Cab Calloway arose from an era where racism against black jazz musicians was present and drug
addiction seemed to consume the majority of these musicians lives. It was no surprise that Cab
Calloway pursued a career as an entertainer. He grew up in a family that consisted of musicians
and performers, although it was expected that he would follow in his fathers foot steps and become
a lawyer. Around the mid to late 1920s Cab Calloway assembled his own band and they were known
as the Alabamians. Although his time with the Alabamians was short lived, he eventually became
bandleader of a big band called the Missourians. Cab Calloway and the Missourians became an
instant hit and sensation. They performed in popular clubs such as Savoy Theater and The Cotton
Club. As stated in the article Cab Calloway and The Cotton Club written by Kinsley Suer, Cab
quickly became so popular that his band, which had been

The Jesus, I Never Knew By Philip Yancey
Jesus is like the water a person drinks, it is a must to survive. I believe, that everyone has their
idealized image of a social figure he or she does not know such as Martin Luther King, John F,
Kennedy, and Malcolm X to name a few. Each of these people at one point has been portrayed in
entertainment and people do not know if what is being portrayed is true. According to Yancey
(1995), he described Jesusas thin, handsome, skin waxen and milky white man (p.13). However,
after Yancey attends college, he begins to ponder, who is the real image of Jesus, aside from
what is being portrayed in movies, or other entertainment? Sometimes, in life, people can go off
what they have seen or heard about a person and not really understand the person. While, I am a
granddaughter, of a minster, I have been told stories about who Jesus is, but have I seen him as
the person he is deep down? The purpose of this paper is seeking to discuss the summary of the
book, The Jesus, I Never Knew. I will be talking about Philip Yanceys take on what he thinks of
Jesus. I also will be discussing, some of Philip Yancey strengths and weakness about his book.
Everyone in life, has a certain image of what he or she thinks of Jesus. In the beginning of the book,
Phillip Yancey, talks about, Who Jesus Was in part one. In part one, the reader gains a better insight
into Jesus s younger years, which is unknown to many people. In fact, the only information that
people known about Jesus younger years are
The Insanity of the Temporary Insanity Defense Essay
Not Guilty, By reason of Insanity! These words have stung the ears of many courtroom observers,
especially the families and friends of victims whose lives were snuffed out by a so called insane
assailant. While there are indeed many insane people running around the streets today, I feel that
many persons who use the temporary insanity defenseare more conniving than insane. Also, being an
inexact science, the psychiatric community often offers up differing opinions as to any particular
individual s sanity. Furthermore, money or lack thereof can play a major role in the success or
failure of an insanity defense. The temporary insanity defense should therefore be abolished,
especially for felony offenses such as murder. What... Show more content on [Link] ...
Below are listed some of the defenses that have received a great deal of media attention over the
past few years. First, Roid Rage is characterized by severe mood swings related to steroid use.
This defense lessened the sentence of 19 year old Troy Gentzler, who admitted throwing rocks at
cars on the highway injuring several people. Secondly, Black Rage is defined at racial prejudice
induced insanity. Lawyers for Colin Ferguson, the black man who killed five white people and
one Asian American and wounded nineteen others on a Long Island railroad wanted to use this
plea but Ferguson decided to mount his own defense. Next, there s Urban Survival Syndrome
which is described as the fear that inner city black people have of other black people. A Fort
Worth jury ended up deadlock in the case of 19 year old Daimion Osby, a black man who shot
two other unarmed black men in a parking lot. The so called Meek make Syndrome is the
psychological emasculation of the man by his spouse. By using this defense, a man in Los
Angeles had the charge of murder reduced to voluntary manslaughter in the death by beating
(with a wrench) of his wife. His lawyers claimed that she had destroyed his self esteem by calling
him names and forcing him to sleep on the floor. Fetal Trimethadione Syndrome , the result of a
mother s use of epilepsy medication during pregnancy, was the defense offered by the lawyers of a
14 year old boy who beat to death another 14 year old boy. The
The Importance Of Early Childhood Special Education
In the last several centuries there have been many scholars and researchers who took it upon
themselves to discover child development and childhood education. These intellectuals formulated
ideas and theories based on their discoveries, and they each contributed to different elements in the
realm of early childhoodspecial education; such as early childhood education, special education, or
compensatory educationprograms.
One such scholar, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi is well known for initiating early childhood education
as a specific discipline. He believed that there was great value in education found through nature and
children s natural development and therefore he advocated in establishing activities in the classroom
that focused on what the students were interested in. Pestalozzi continued to enhance early
childhood education by contributing several different values. Pestalozzi thought that it was vital that
education should be in terms of the whole child. Additionally, he firmly believed that each parent
should be involved in his or her child s early education. One final opinion that he had was that there
are beneficial aspects to have a system of multiage groups where students can help younger children
in their academic studies.
When considering early childhood special education, childhood education and special education go
hand in hand . Just as in the establishment of early education, there are many contributors to special
education. Itard, Sequin, and Howe are
Compare And Contrast Thyroid And Hypothyroidism
There are many different types of thyroid diseases. The two I would like to discuss are
hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. These two thyroid diseases have a few similarities and many
differences.

Hyperthyroidism is known as an overactive thyroid which occurs when the thyroid gland
overproduces thyroid hormones causing the body s natural functions to accelerate (University
Michigan, N.D.). On the contrary, hypothyroidism is known as an underactive thyroid which occurs
when the thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormone which leads to the body s natural
functions slowing down. Hypothyroidism is more common, affecting five to twenty percent of
people in the United States. Meanwhile, only one percent of people in the United States ... Show

The symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, coarse, dry hair, hair loss, cold intolerance,
constipation, irritability, memory loss, abnormal menstrual cycle, and decreased libido (University
Michigan, N.D.). The symptoms of hyperthyroidism include hand tremors, mood swings,
nervousness, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, skin dryness, trouble sleeping, and weight
loss. Fatigue and muscle weakness are some symptoms of both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

The process for diagnosing hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism is exactly the same which includes
laboratory test, thyroid scan, and radioactive iodine uptake test. The laboratory test for diagnosing
both are thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) test and thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) test
(University Michigan, N.D.).

Treatment for both diseases is remarkably different. Hyperthyroidism treatment consists of

radioactive iodine, antithyroid medication and sometimes a beta blocker to alleviate symptoms
(Milas, 2014). There are two antithyroid medications available in the United States methimazole,
also known as Tapazole, and propylthiouracil. Tapazole and propylthiouracil both stop the thyroid
from producing T3 and T4 hormones. The most common treatment for hyperthyroidism is radioactive

Why was Germany unable to translate tactical and operational victories into strategic success during

Why was Germany unable to translate tactical and operational victories into strategic success during
World War II? More pointedly and stated simpler, why did Germany loose World War II?
Why Germany lost the war (despite its early tactical successes) is a simple question with a complex
answer. And, over the years since Germany s surrender at Reims, France on May 7, 1945, scholars
and historians have provided a number of arguments to warrant their perspective answers.
Consequently there are a ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Because Hitler s vision did not translate into an effective strategic plan, with clear strategic
objectives a disconnect between what Germany wanted to achieve (ends), the way it wanted to
achieve it (ways), and the resources it would choose to utilize (means) was created. As such, it is
this disconnection that also played a large role in Germany s failure to translate its tactical and
operational victories into strategic success and overall victory. Examples of this disconnect and the
calamitous effects are clearly present in a quick analysis of the Battle of Britain.
During the Battle of Britain, Germany wanted to achieve air superiority but ultimately failed to
defeat the Royal Air Force (RAF). Hitler ordered the Lufwaffe to destroy the RAF in preparation for
Operation Sealion which was Germany s invasion plan for Britain. Although numerous factors
contributed to Hitler s decision to attack Britain, in keeping with his one front at a time war
methodology, Hitler wanted to secure the Western Front prior to invading the Soviet Union. Initially,
directed by Hermann Goering (commander in chief of the Lufwaffe) Germany targeted Britain s
coastal areas and convoys, airports, and vital British air warning and radar
