Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Understand the complete process of conceptual aircraft design from mission requirements
to initial layout.
2. Integrate aerodynamic, structural, propulsion, and operational factors into a coherent
aircraft design.
3. Apply methods for estimating weights, stability characteristics, and performance metrics.
4. Analyse cost factors, economic trade-offs, and explore novel and unconventional aircraft
concepts.
5. Develop a conceptual aircraft design through a systematic, multidisciplinary approach.
CO 1 Design control surfaces and configuration layout for stability and control considerations.
CO 2 Analyze the layout and requirements of the fuel system and landing gear arrangements.
CO 3 Apply a structured step-by-step methodology for new aircraft design.
CO 4 Analyze longitudinal and lateral-directional static stability and control characteristics.
CO5 Explore conceptual design approaches for advanced configurations such as flying
wings, tailless aircraft, lifting fuselages, and blended wing-body concepts.
