ADAPTIVE TEACHING GUIDE

Most Essential Topic #2

Lesson #2 Ellipse

1.1-define an Ellipse.
1.2-determine the standard form of equation of Ellipse

Prerequisite Content-knowledge:
 Coordinate Geometry
 Circle

Prerequisite Skill:
 Familiarity of Cartesian Coordinate system, plotting points and interpreting Graphs in Circle.

Prerequisites Assessment: (Prompting Connections to Prior Knowledge)

Activity #1. Instructions: Write the Equation for a Circle from a Description

1. Write an equation of the circle centered at (8 , -10) with radius 8.

2. Write an equation of the circle centered at (-9, 9) with radius 16.

Pre-lesson Remediation Activity:

1. For participants with Insufficient Level on Prerequisite Content-knowledge and/or Skill(s):

 Participants will be provided reading or video materials to help them comprehend the key ideas involved in Coordinate Geometry. The link for video material is provided below:

● They will be asked to share their understanding of how to plot points in Circle.

Introduction:
1. The lesson is to be learned by the participants for a total of 225 minutes, which equates to two sessions, within a week. Participants can reach me by phone at 09XX-XXX-XXXX
or by email at [email protected] for any questions or concerns.

2. At the end of the lesson, the participants are able to:

illustrate the different types of conic sections: parabola, ellipse, circle, hyperbola, and degenerate cases. (STEM_PC11AG-Ia-2)
define a circle. (STEM_PC11AG-Ia-12
determine the standard form of equation of a circle. (STEM_PC11AG-Ia-2)
3. Participants can apply their learning as they model situations appropriately and solve problems accurately using conic sections and systems of nonlinear equations.
4. Overview of the Lesson
The lesson covers the Solving and Graphing Ellipse. The participants will start having the activity that includes pre-requisite knowledge in order to learn Solving and Graphing
Ellipse. The concept of Solving and Graphing Ellipse will then be explained, along with the terms and formulas that participants should take into consideration. A set of
supplementary activity will also be provided for the participants to fully grasp the lesson. At the end of the discussion, the participants a set of problems Solving and Graphing
Ellipse.

Participant’s Experiential Learning: (Note: Use the Flexible Learning Activity Identified for the topic/lesson relative to the General Enabling Teaching Strategy)
This section is intended for the presentation guide of the lesson proper. It must highlight the chunking of the topic into essential concepts through the use of formative questions.

Activity #2. Instructions: Choose the word from the box that best describe the following figures below Write your answer in the blank. (Drawing attention to meaning)

Formative Question: What is your idea about Ellipse.?

Definition: Explain what an ellipse is—set of all points where the sum of the distances to two fixed points (foci) is constant. ( Using examples and non-examples)

1. Introduction to Ellipses

 Definition: Explain what an ellipse is—set of all points where the sum of the distances to two fixed points (foci) is constant.
 Real-World Context: Discuss applications of ellipses (e.g., orbits, optics).

2. Equation of an Ellipse

 Standard Form

 Identify Components:

3. Graphing Ellipses

 Activity: Provide students with different equations of ellipses. Have them identify the center, axes, and foci, then graph the ellipses.
 Use Graphing Technology: Allow students to use graphing calculators or software (like Desmos) to visualize the changes as parameters change.

4. Properties of Ellipses

 Major and Minor Axes: Discuss lengths and how they relate to the graph.
 Foci and Directrix: Explain how to find and use foci.

Activity 3. (Prompting for Effortful Thinking)

Synthesis
Address the following questions to synthesize the learning:
1. What are your takeaways from the discussion?
2. What are the challenges you’ve encountered on the discussion?
3. Where and how will you apply these ideas in your everyday life?
The following are the target responses for the synthesis: After all the discussions, participants have gained knowledge on the different terminologies, and formulas used when Solving
and Graphing Ellipse. Deriving formulas can be challenging but is useful when solving the unknown. These concepts can be used and are important in their daily life.

RUA of a Participant’s Learning:

Students will be paired. Ellipse String Art: Create ellipses using a string and pins. Have students plot points on the ellipse using the distance to foc
