Supervisors, the Scientist in Grade-C&D, Scientist Grade-E and Scientist Grade-F&G are
equated with Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor respectively,
exclusively for the purpose of research supervision.
3. A Professor as Research Supervisor/Co-supervisor, at any given point of time, shall guide
not more than eight Ph.D Scholars; an Associate Professor as Research Supervisor shall
supervise up to a maximum of six Ph.D Scholars; and an Assistant Professor as Research
Supervisor shall guide up to a maximum of four Ph.D scholars.
Even if a teacher/Scientist is an approved supervisor in more than one discipline the total
number of research scholars he/she can supervise at a time shall be as stipulated in the
above clause.
4. In case of interdisciplinary / multidisciplinary research work, if required, a Co-Supervisor
from outside the Department / School / Centre / College / University may be appointed

subject to the approval of the Syndicate provided such Supervisor shall be an approved
Research supervisor in any other Recognised Institute/ Research Centres.
5. Registration shall not be granted under adjunct faculty, visiting faculty, technical staff,
administrative staff, Library staff and teachers serving outside the geographical jurisdiction of
the University.
6. Allocation of Research Supervisor for a selected Research Scholar shall be decided by the
Department Doctoral Committee concerned, considering the present number of scholars
under each Research Supervisor (including co-supervision also) specialization area of the
Research supervisors and the research interests of the Research Scholars as indicated by
them at the time of interview.

IV. PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION
1. The admission shall be based on the criteria notified by the University, keeping in view the
guidelines/norms in this regard issued by the UGC and other statutory/regulatory bodies
concerned, and taking into account the reservation policy of the State Government from time
to time. The mode of implementation of the reservation policy in the admission for Ph.D.
programme shall be based on the University orders issued in this regard from time to time.
2. The registration for Ph.D shall be granted only on the basis of merit and subject to the
availability of vacancies with the supervising teachers and as per the norms and regulations
framed by the University in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure
for the Award of Ph.D Degrees) Regulations 2022.
3. Selection of the candidates to the Ph.D. programme shall be based on either of the
following methods as applicable to the candidates:
i. Selection of students who qualify the fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR
NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests / State level tests approved by the
University exclusively for this purpose shall be based on an interview by the Doctoral
Committee concerned.
ii. The selection of candidates who have qualified [Link] Degree and Ph.D. entrance
examination conducted by the University shall be based on an interview provided that for the
selection of candidates who qualify the entrance test conducted by the University, a
weightage of 70 % for the entrance test and 30 % for the performance in the interview / viva-
voce shall be given. (Not applicable to the candidates who have passed Ph.D. entrance
examination conducted by the University prior to January 2024).
