Opposing Views On Animal Rights
Whether we think about it or not, our views on animal rights affect the choices we make every day
from the foods we eat, the clothes we wear, the products we use on our skin, the medicine we take,
and even the pets we may or may not keep in our home. Each of these choices hinge on our views of
animal rights. Although animal rightsare not a new issue we are facing here in the U.S., recent
events have brought them back into the foreground. News stories like the slaying of Cecil the lion,
and Harambe the gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo in this past year have brought renewed interest to
those of all ages thanks to social media and national press time.
To truly understand the issue that is the animal rights movement, we must first understand ... Show

These methods have contributed to a technological revolution in biomedical research, thus,
rendering the need for test animals outdated. We use technology for so many applications in our
life, why can we not switch over in this instance if there is such a high demand for it?
Unfortunately, like so many other issues we face today, we have yet to come up with one solid view
when it comes to animal rights.
There are three official views on animal rights, two of which hold intrinsic value, or moral status;
both of which are considered to be all or nothing views. The first view would be the Anti Speciesism
View. Those who believe in this view think all human beings and non human animals have equal
inherent value. The second view, All or Nothing Speciesism, maintains that whereas a human being
has intrinsic value, non human animals do not have any intrinsic value or moral status.
The third and final view, is the Matter of Degree view, meaning people believe that intrinsic value
is not all or nothing, but a matter of degree. This belief is, in substance, between the two previous
all or nothing views I stated before because it maintains that whereas human people have moral
status, non human animals do have some lesser moral status. Of all three views, many people fall
under this belief system as we see this as the most plausible. We know there is a wide range of
conscious animals out there, some at the higher end of the
Reflection On Shambhala Meditation
Reflection on Shambhala Meditation A couple weeks ago, while perusing the web for fun date night
ideas, I accidentally stumbled upon the official website for the Asheville Shambhala Center. The
website broadcasted the center as a safe space for meditation and literary discussion under the
tradition of Shambhala, a spiritual and philosophical school akin but not equivalent to buddhism.
Although I certainly couldn t picture dragging my boo to sit silently for four hours on a hardwood
floor in honor of our anniversary, the message of basic human goodness included in the center s
description intrigued me. I decided to attend one of the Sunday morning meditationsessions in order
to further investigate Shambhala ideology. My GPS protested... Show more content on

Unfortunately, the lady described the importance of the senses in Shambhala meditation by
describing them as the five tentacles of goodness with which we reach out to the world . I spent
most of the rest of her speech mortified I would burst out laughing. Even in the moment, while I
was dying to run to my car and privately cackle about the word tentacle like a ten year old, I
recognized how disrespectful my thought process was. I was in the presence of a woman sharing a
sacred practice used to connect to the divine, cracking up about a single word poorly suited to the
context of the American south. It reminded me of our discussion about Sundiata concerning the
sacred and the supernatural. To my horror, the practice of Shambhala was so foreign to me, after
one awkward moment my brain subconsciously filed Shambhala under the strange hybrid of
eastern and western practices attempting to appeal to unsatisfied white folks while retaining its
exotic appeal category, and discarded the spiritual significance of the practice entirely. After
reflecting, I realized that the way I categorized Shambhala was disgustingly riddled with egotistical,
American first bias, white people first bias. Since I was not familiar with Shambhala, it was easy
for me to categorize the practice as ineffective and wrong, disregarding the deep spiritual
significance the practice
Nicotine Informative Speech
Hi class today we are going to talk about recognizing the dangers of nicotine. Nicotine is a stimulant
found in tobacco products such as cigarettes. Tobacco use is a global epidemic among young people
this is why it s important that students become aware of the dangers of nicotine. Nicotine causes the
release of chemicals in the brain that makes tobaccousers crave tobacco. Since nicotineis addictive it
makes quitting difficult. Nicotine not only affects the brain but it affects the user s whole body.
Nicotine makes the heart work harder to pump blood this extra stress on the heart can lead to high
blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. Smokingcan damage the lungs by blocking the airways and
can lead to lung cancer and other repository diseases. Smoking not only harms the inside of your

of death in the U.S. Today we are going to do an activity where everyone will experience what it
feels like to have Emphysema. Everyone in class will receive a straw. When I say go everyone
should run in place as fast as they can for one minute until I say stop. After I say stop everyone
should hold their nose and put the straw in their mouth and try to breathe through the straw. This
will stimulate how a person with emphysema breathes. After the activity please write down how
you felt like doing this activity. Now that we have gone over the dangers of nicotine we are going to
look at some statistics about cigarettes and some of the reasons why people might start
The Shaw Festival And The Show Itself
Part 1: The Shaw festival and the show itself.

History of Shaw festival and Doherty and Rand

Shaw s works were only sporadically performed before 1962. This changed when lawyer Brian
Doherty offered up the idea of having a theatre company attributed to Shaw the way Stratford was
to Shakespeare. The company was created as A salute to shaw to help give the town a financial
boost. In the year of 1962 Doherty was named both artistic director and producer bring the shows
Don Juan in Hell and Candida to the stage. Throughout all of the changes in titles Doherty worked
on A salute to shaw that produced a major milestone on June 12, 1973. That milestone being the
opening of the new Shaw Festival theatre by Queen Elizabeth herself. During this time Calvin Rand
arts Professor from the University of Buffalo became president of the company and help move the
company forward.

Network Ground Segment Sustainment (SGSS) project

Abstract
The Mullard Space Science Laboratory at University College London (UCL) identified five
principals as the guideline of a successful project. The five principals are: principles govern process ,
seek alternative systems perspectives , understand the enterprise context , integrate systems
engineering and project management , and invest in the early stages of projects . In this article, the
application of the principals on NASA SGSS project is being evaluated.
About SGSS project
NASA Space Network has been providing a global communication service from early 1980 [1]. The
main function of the space network is providing tracking and data transfer service between user
platform and the mission operation center . The Space network consists of two segments, which are
the space segment and the ground segment [3].
Due to the existing ground segment are based on technology from 1980s, the difficulty and the cost
for maintenance and operation of the ground segment were getting higher. Thus, the Space Network
Ground Segment Sustainment (SGSS) Project was derived in March 2008 Space Network
modernization concept Study and started the formulation on November 2011. The SGSS project
was aim to reduce the life cycle cost of ground segment operations and maintenance, as well as to
continue safe and reliable operations for the next
College Education Problems
Why the education system is flawed many students over the years due to the poor support they
provided? The education system in the United States has problems over the years because it has
some flaws of helping students to succeed. Students who attend community college or university
will have issues that will cause them to be in debt or could not complete it. The system tried
many ways to bring students accomplish their degree, but the problem is that students face issues
that will affect their goal of reaching their degree. The system has changed in order to fix some
problems; however, the results make the prices for most colleges so high that not many students
could afford. Not many students are rich because most students are on the benefits from social
security or working. Students who need help are most likely be the ones who will fail at a higher
rate of the lack of support from college. Most colleges are not doing the right job to solve the
system; however, they did make some input such as financial aid and tuition for certain classes.
Many college students drop out of school due to problems exist such as the lack of preparation, lack
of globalism language, and financial aid needs.
First, the problem of the education system has enrolled new students that were unprepared in most
colleges. Community college (or four year college) is a school that brought students from high school
to learn advanced education by learning the college basics and focusing on their career.
Essay on Senior Advocate Job Analysis
Introduction Having been just promoted it is now one of my new responsibilities to devise a
plan to hire my replacement. It is important that I take the steps necessary to conduct a thorough
job analysis so that a job description can be constructed as a guide prior to hiring anyone. Having
a job description will also clarify expectations for the prospective employee as well as providing
reference points for training and development to take place once an individual is hired for the
position (Chapman,1995 2009,P.1). Even though job analysis may take more time and money, in the
long run it is a necessary step to take in the hiring process. When filling positions within a company
or organization conducting a job analysis is necessary,... Show more content on [Link] ...
While there are several different counties that are covered by the services of our organization, but
just gathering information from a concentrated group will provide the extended input needed to
organize the job description and get the hiring process started. The Dakota Communities
Organization usually does all the hiring within the company using the feedback from the
Program Coordinator in regards to the qualities, responsibilities, and training that he or she has
specified on the job description. In regards to a full job analysis I have already establish that I
will not need to start from scratch. Human Resources for this organization has also put in a great
deal of time when it comes to the job descriptions for each position that is held within each
separate assisted living home. My first objective is to break down the major functions of this
position. The major responsibilities of the Senior Advocate are caring for petty cash and spending
costs, supervising all staff activities, training staff, caring for residents, and preparing scheduling for
staff members. These activities make up 71% of the functions that the Senior Advocate will be
responsible for out of their total job duties. These are all functions that are cared for on a daily basis,
with the exception of the scheduling,
Ever Heard The Saying, “Learn From Your Mistakes,” Or A
Ever heard the saying, Learn from your mistakes, or a different variation, such as when a parent or
guardian tells a child, I am trying to save you from repeating the mistakes I made, ? The root of this
timeless phrase lies in the ability of humans to make the same choices over and over across
generations. Through the analysis of historic events and ideals that are still causing a stir to this day,
such as Thomas Jefferson s deism, the Emoluments Clause in the United StatesConstitution, and The
Great Wave print, one can learn a great deal about the world in which he or she lives. The author
of the Declaration of Independence was Thomas Jefferson, who was a deist. Deism refers to the

However, people continue to spread hateful messages against each other, certain that their side is
correct, and the division grows.
Another document from the origins of the United States that is coming to the political forefront
since the recent presidential election is the United States Constitution, specifically the Emoluments
Clause. The clause reads, No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person
holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept
of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign
State, (Article I, Section 9, Clause 8). Emoluments, according to Merriam Webster, are, the returns
arising from office or employment usually in the form of compensation or perquisites, (Emolument).
The founding fathers put this clause into the Constitution very purposefully, because they wanted to
protect the integrity of the American political system. They had seen the way corruption could
spread if the leader of a country started working for a different nation s interests, and they did not
want that to happen in America.
Today, the debate is on for whether the founding fathers provision is being stretched to the breaking
point with current president, Donald Trump. The president is under
FSD As Reflected In The Film Orgasm, Inc.
In recent years a mysterious disease called Female Sexual Dysfunction (FSD) has captivated the
marketplace and the general public. FSD has managed to cause mass hysteria across the nation as
women fear that they are abnormal or even diseased because of the broad definition of sexuality
being perpetuated by mass media. The documentary OrgasmInc. explores the social construction of
FSD, the role of drug companies in defining FSD, and the resulting exploitation of women and the
drug market by the pharmaceutical companies.
Liz Canner, the filmmaker, consistently undermines the medical basis of FSD as she interviews
various companies, experts, and even women who believe they have FSD. Many
symptoms of FSD include unfulfilled wants and desires, which have ... Show more content on

The medicalization of such a social problem and the broad symptoms of FSD are in part due to
role of pharmaceutical companies in defining the disease itself. Liz Canner asks a representative
of the pharmaceutical company VIVUS how they can make a drug for such a new, ambiguous
disease and is shocked by her response. The representative talked about how VIVUS defines the
disease, suggesting that the disease is to be defined and interpreted by pharmaceutical companies
rather than by unbiased medical professionals. A study done on FSD that made headlines across
America claimed that 43% of women showed symptoms of FSD, yet the researcher who made these
claims was being paid by a drug company. The researcher had originally said that many of these
women who fall into the infamous 43% actually showed normal sexual responses. By the time the
incorrect statement had been retracted, it was already too late because the media had relentlessly
pushed the statistic. Pharmaceutical companies
Necklace Research Papers
Necklaces are a great way to accentuate your features and bring out the glow of your skin.
Nowadays, there are many kinds of necklaces you can choose from meaning that you may have a
difficult time in deciding what kind of necklace you like best. Necklaces can usually be
differentiated according to their lengths and widths. For example, the choker is the shortest
necklace at fourteen to sixteen inches long, it is followed by the princess necklace which is
eighteen inches long. Meanwhile, still another type of necklace is the matinee necklace which is at
twenty two to twenty three inches long; this type of necklace is usually above the cleavage area.
The last type of necklace is the longest one, the opera necklace; this type of necklace is below the
cleavage and is placed at the breastbone.

Necklaces have been popular since ancient civilizations; you have probably already encountered the
image of Cleopatra, the Egyptian queen, wearing different kinds of jewelry. But in fact, necklaces
have been used even before that time because there are some discoveries that suggest that necklaces
were used even during the time when the Israelis evacuated Egypt. Also note that from the painting
of Thebes, necklaces have been used by people in that era. Both men and women from the ancient ...

make things even more beautiful. On the other hand, fashionable and individual style choices
should not be left out in selecting beautiful necklaces; there are bead necklaces, pearl necklaces,
and even fake necklaces to suit a multitude of moods. There is no limit to the innovations being
made to the once traditional necklace. It is really no wonder then that aside from the ring, the
necklace is the most preferred type of jewelry being given to your special someone when an occasion
Descriptive Essay About An Unknown Woman
The Unknown Woman
Hey, i m Damien I live with my parents and my baby brother Dj. My parents get along sometimes
but dad isn t always home so when he is my parents sometimes argue about where he has been and
what he has been doing but he never tells. He is always in the basement too but when I go to see
him my mom tells me not to bother him and i m starting to get suspicious but it s none of my
business. Anyways I have a great family but there are secrets in this family my mom won t tell me
about but I hope to find out soon.
I was sitting in my room in my quiet house just surfing the web and I got bored so I started to text
my mom. Until things went weird. So I texted my mom and asked her how her day was going until
i heard it, a baby crying very lightly, I thought it was my imagination but it started to get louder and

No, why, my mom replied.

I just heard a car door slam, I replied.

What color is the car it could be your father, my mom texted.

The Importance Of Ergogenic Aids
Ergogenic aids are widely used by athletes to help maximize training and improve overall
performance. Many companies that sell ergogenic aids often target athletes with claims of improving
strength, power, aerobic endurance, and reduced recovery time. However most ergogenic aids fall
short on delivering these claims. With so much misinformation, it is important that athletes only take
ergogenic supplements that have been supported by scientific literature that has proved they
improve exercise and performance. This report will profile the ergogenic aids of fish oil (omega 3
fatty acids) and zinc to determine if they are effective at optimizing training and performance.

The first being eiscsapentaenoic acids (EPAs), which are associated with a reduction in LDL
cholesterol, depression, and production in inflammation (Swanson, Block, Mousa, 2012). Another
type of fatty acid in Omega 3 is docosahexaenoic acids (DHAs), which are associated with increased
production of healthy HDL cholesterol, brain function, and a decrease in triglycerides (Swanson,
Block, Mousa, 2012). The third essential fatty acid from Omega 3 is alpha linolenic acids (ALAs),
however only 5 10 percent of ALAs can be converted into functional forms (Swanson, Block,
Mousa, 2012). Improving the ratio of Omega 6 to omega 3 ratios, thus increasing the presences of
DHA and EPA in the body, can help athletes improve performance by increasing gains in lean
muscle growth, limit rate of muscle loss, and reduce muscle soreness by regulating inflammation
production. Increased intake of Omega 3 fatty acids, when combined with anaerobic type of training,
can lead to muscle growth. A study by Smith et al., 2011, evaluated the effects of 8 weeks of
supplementation of omega 3 on health subjects between the ages of 25 45 years old. They found that
muscle protein synthesis was increased, along with protein concentrations within the muscle cell.
The study concluded that omega 3 supplementation has a positive influence on anabolic properties in
healthy young and middle age
Biography of Loretta Lux
Loretta Lux grew up in Soviet occupied East Germany. She was raised inside the Berlin Wall that
came down when she was 20 years old. A year after the wall came down in 1990 Loretta stared
studying paintings and art which she perused until 1996. Three years on and she had started
studying photography. In 2004 she had her first solo show in America at the Yossi Milo Gallery,
New York. In 2005, Loretta received the Infinity Award for Art from the International Center of
Photography. Her work has since been exhibited extensively abroad, including solo exhibitions in
2006 at the Fotomuseum Den Haag, The Netherlands, and the Sixth Moscow Photo biennale.
Loretta s main influences in her art are by painters such as Agnolo Bronzino, Diego Velázquez,
and Phillip Otto Runge. In Loretta s photographs she uses a very soft pastel colour pallet, this
gives to us a calm or soothing feel. Most of her photographs are of young children, she says that
she likes working with children because they are young, innocent and easier to work with. Loretta
makes the children pull a serious face, this makes them look like they have a secret or have been
up to mischief. She uses her own clothes from when she was a child and because vintage clothing
is coming back this gives the photo a feeling of timelessness. Loretta s photographs tend to be at eye
level making the child look superior. She also strips down the background making the main focus on
the child. Loretta s artworks have been shown in numerous
Looking towards Hydrogen as a Promising Energy Source
Hydrogen is a promising energy source due to its clean product and high energy yield (122 kJ/g)
(Chang and Lin, 2004). Water electrolysis, steam reforming of hydrocarbons and auto thermal
processes are well known technologies for H2 production, but it is cost intensive due to high energy
consumption (Ming et al., 2008). In contrast, dark fermentationprocess is low cost technology for
hydrogen productionfrom wastematerials (Tawfik et al., 2012, Tawfik et al., 2013 and Tawfik and
El Qelish, 2012). Moreover, bio hydrogen production from OFMSW has gained great attention due
to energy generation while reducing the unwanted wastes (Tawfik et al., 2011). The main problems
for bio hydrogen production from bio wastes using dark fermentation process are the low generation
rates and yields. Therefore, several factors must be considered for maximizing H2 production in the
dark fermentation process, such as avoiding the loss of H2 to hydrogen consuming anaerobes, e.g.,
methanogens (Ming et al., 2008). The SRT is one of the important design parameters for maintaining
hydrogen producing bacteria in dark fermentation processes. The substrate uptake efficiency,
microbial population and metabolic pathways is mainly depends on the imposed SRT. It is assumed
that a long SRT causes the growth of H2 consumers, including methanogens, and competitors for
substrates, such as non H2 producing acidogens (Hawkes et al., 2002). On the other hand, a short
SRT may reduce substrate uptake efficiency,
