Hope In The American Red Cross
As discussed in my first essay, the virtue of hope is crucial for attaining any other virtue as well as
the inseparable part of human nature. However, sometimes a burden of harsh and unpredictable
circumstances causes the unfortunate to doubt hope. In that case, according to Mary Wollstonecraft,
others should disregard their ignorance and mistaken self interest to help the unfortunate regain the
essential virtue of hope (Wollstonecraft, 211). Furthermore, as Niccolo Machiavelli emphasizes,
when disregarding their self interest, the ones helping should not only appear to be hopeful, but also
demonstrate hope in their actions (Machiavelli, 203). But how is the virtue of hope demonstrated to
others? By looking at the work of Mary Wollstonecraft... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, the Red Cross is tempted by the immorality since groups tend to be more immoral than
individuals as discussed by Martin Luther King (Dr. King, 274). To simplify, an individual who acts
immorally is the only one held accountable for his immorality. On the other hand, the organization s
responsibility for immoral actions is distributed among the members of the group, which means that
none of the individuals is exclusively responsible for the organization s actions, so none of the
members can be individually punished for immorality of the organization. Since partial responsibility
involves less accountability than total responsibility, individuals are more likely to be immoral in a
group than by themselves. Similarly, Henry David Thoreau explains the same issue by stating that a
corporation has no conscience (Thoreau, 256). Therefore, like any other organization, the American
Red Cross has to fight against immorality of the group to manifest their purpose of helping others.
But how do they fight it? Thoreau explains that even though a corporation itself has no conscience,
its members do and a corporation of conscientious men is a corporation with a conscience (Thoreau,
256). And the American Red Cross makes sure that all its members are conscientious by
incorporating the moral laws in the organization s fundamental
Comparison Of Modern Liberalism And Conservatism
Political Science 1 American Politics Course#26054 Comparison of Modern Liberalism and
Conservatism When I speak of liberalism and conservatism, I also equate this with the
polarization of our two political parties, Republicans and Democrats, which has only intensified
in the past decade. Another point in this discussion is to compare what I believe to be the
differences between, and just as importantly, the opposite direction that the two groups are
traveling in. I think that due to extremes in modern day conservative and liberal views, that this
nation in on a self destruct path. And, I will also try to show how both the extreme liberal and
conservative ideologies are flawed and harmful to our society. I feel that conservative and liberal
ideals have become a chasm so wide that someday soon we can t coexist peacefully. This day has
not come yet, but it will soon and when it does the possibility of a civil war like event between the
two sides is possible. The revolutionary conversion that we saw from the Bush to the Obama
administrations is a consummate example. Our communities will not survive the pendulum from far
right to far left. We will lose our stability our delicately balanced intermingled society. In these
modern times, I believe the differences on matters of importance (government intercession, foreign
affair issues, right to life, personal freedoms, gender roles) is enormous. I ve always thought it
interesting that most liberals say they value
Analysis Of David Brooks s Hurricane Katrina
The essay that David brooks wrote about hurricane Katrina is a sarcastic bitter piece taking jabs at
government, who he blames for the catastrophe. Specifically, he pointed out their plan of action
toward the hurricane they knew was coming. Many from New Orleans were angry that the
government did little to help them from this dangerous storm.
In his essay brooks stated, Katrina was the most anticipated natural disaster in American history,
and still government managed to fail at every level. The plan was supposedly so well planned out,
but didn t prevent all this disaster from happening, and brooks mocks it several times using sarcasm
and over exaggeration as his main weapon.
Statistics show that 75% of the African Americans in New Orleans were affected compared to the
15% of African Americans in the Biloxi Gulfport metropolitan area (Cutter and Gall, 5). It also states,
The calamitous combination of insured development certainly accounts for much of hurricane katrina
s damage, specifically in New Orleans. All levels of government failed to do their part, which
includes state and local government.
The author, Brooks, is bitter about how the whole situation was handled. The citizens were
essentially left to defend for themselves instead of getting the support they needed. Obviously, the
government could and should have made a more efficient plan to rescue and protect its citizens from
a huge disaster. Because they failed to do so, they have to pay both the monetary
Life Is Beautiful Movie
Movies play a huge role in our history. Fact based or fictional, realistic or fantastic, history movies
shape the way people think about the past (Metzger). Some examples of great historical films are
Hidden Figures, Forrest Gump, Gandhi, and Dances with Wolves. Although these films provided
a glimpse of the past, no other movie was as artistic as the film Life is Beautiful . The movie was a
fairytale trapped in a historical period filled with misery and survival, which was why I chose it.
Life is Beautiful is a wonderful masterpiece that provides a glimpse of the Holocaustand the
indomitability of humanity even in the midst of inhumanity.
The film was set in the late 1930s of Arezzo, Italy. The main character, Guido (Roberto Benigni), is
an enthusiastic Jewish Italian man who moved to the city to open a bookstore and help his uncle,
Eliseo (Giustino Durano), in his Grand Hotel. While Guido is in the city he encounters a non Jewish
Italian woman named Dora (Nicoletta Braschi), who he falls in love with and uses his charm to win
her over. The first half of the movie hosted a series of events that demonstrated what an
extraordinary character Guido was that not only did Dora fall in love with but the audience did
as well. At Dora s engagement ceremony, Guido whisked her away on a green horse ensuring
that they will live together happily. Eventually, they have a son named Giosue (Giorgio
Cantarini) together. However, their blissful life is interrupted by World War II and the
declaration of racial laws. The second half of the movie hosted a series of sacrificial events by
Guido and Dora. On Giosue fifth birthday, he was taken away with his father and uncle to a
concentration camp. Dora, refusing to be left behind, sacrifice herself by insisting to go to the
camp as well. While in the concentration camp Guido made sacrifices to protect his son from the
vile truth, by turning their situation into a game, and he also made sacrifices to ensure his wife that
he and Giosue were okay. In order to keep his son interested in the game, Guido told Giosue that the
grand prize was a tank. Ironically, at the end of the film, an American tank coincidently came to save
Giosue. The film writer/directed, Roberto Benigni,
Fairness In The Ulstimatum Game Paradigm
In what is known as the ultimatum game paradigm, people have an opportunity to split a pie of
money between themselves and another player as they see fit. However, if the other player
rejects the offer, no player wins anything. If both players were perfectly rational and did not
incorporate fairness considerations into their decisions, then those making offers would always
offer $1 while keeping the rest and those receiving offers would always accept the offer since
winning $1 is better than $0. However, people often reject offers where they receive less than 20%
of the pie because they perceive the offers to be unfair. Essentially, they derive more utility from
denying the proposer s allocation than they would have if the proposed allocation went through.
Even though they have complete outcome control, dictators typically do not take all the money
available in the pie despite having the option to do so.
A real world analogue to a dictator game is pay what you want pricing. The concept behind pay what
you want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We tend to activate parts of the brain associated with negative emotion when considering unfair
offers. Cross cultural studies suggest that fairness is an important consideration in every society that
has been tested, though its strength may vary across cultures. Even monkeys tend to respond to
unfairness by refusing to work for rewards. Pay differentials play a key role in dictating
organization level outcomes. Companies with more pay equity tend to produce better products than
ones with pay inequity. Major league baseball teams with more pay equity tend to perform better
than those with pay inequity. The gap between CEO pay and the pay of the average executive is
negatively correlated with performance. Pay differentials have important consequences because we
use others outcomes as reference points to help us determine the acceptability of our own
Case Study Of Jane s 14-Year-Under Canadian Law
Jane is a 14 year old Canadian. She is not double subject to any nations nor is she a United States
citizen. Since Jane s parent s divorce six years ago, Jane has lived with her father John in Quebec
amid the school term and with her mother Anne in New York amid school breaks and holidays.
Under Canadian law, both John and Anne retain full custodial and parental rights following their
divorce. During a school break when Jane was living in New York, Jane telephoned her father in
Toronto requesting that she be permitted to come back to Quebec early in light of the fact that she
and her mother were not getting along. Jane s father advised her to attempt to cope with her mother
and stay in New York until the end of the school break. Two days
Essay On Pop Art
History of pop art and interior design: Pop art is an art development that emerged in the mid 1950s
in Britain and in the late 1960s in the United States, which was inspired by consumerism and
communal culture. (Raimes, Renow,2007)
This phenomena describes a new style of artistic work by including symbolic aspects from popular
culture, pop artists employing this style in promoting and designing news product, comic books,
also in advertising. Pop artists are very originating, and their style is very acute and bright. pop
modern style is an adaptation of a famous pop art movement popular during the 50s and 60s
(Yuni,2006, P:51).

Pop art was described by its unusual, extraordinary, and energetic style that was known between the
extents of design and art. Also, this style was very famous with its uniqueness and was focusing on
bold colours and splendid motions. They also used manufactured materials combined with simulated
strong colours like the one shown in figure 1. It is a pattern that can be recognized by a huge range
of methods and techniques to create the Pop Art style. (Yuni,2006) ... Show more content on

pop art was open to all forms of communication and popular information in its attempt to embody all
of reality in its own language (Parmesani, 2012, P: 72).
Pop artists chose a specific theme and style for their work of art, sculptures and prints, they utilized
their claim to create a surprizing outline or a design with the same amount of energy and creativity.
Also, pop art turned to be more affordable and open to everybody.
Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era
During the Victorian Era many people greatly helped shape the future trough their deeds of heroism
and courage, some of these people include Queen Victoria, Florence Nightingale, Benjamin Disraeli,
Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and Charles Dickens. These people not only helped to shape the
Victorian Era, but also created many things we still use today. Some important scientists include
Charles Darwin, and Alexander Bell. Without these scientists we might not have some of the basic
necessities of the modern day. Now you might be wondering to yourself what these ladies and
gentlemen did to be so important? After reading this you are going to understand what
contributions they made to the world that made them famous. Queen Victoria was born May 24,
1819. She was the granddaughter of George III, and her father, Edward was fourth in line to the
throne. She was born into a royal family and had impeccable blood lines. When the Prince of Wales
died early, his brothers sought to get married in order to maintain the line of succession so that no
other families could get power in the kingdom.
Edward married Princess Victoria from Germany and the couple had just one child. Her name
was Alexandrina Victoria, who was born at Kensington Palace in 1819. As a young girl, Victoria
s father died, followed 6 days later by King George III. The throne then passed to King William IV,
but, he too died early. This left Victoria to be crowned at the age of 18, in June 1837. She was to
reign until her
A Theory Of Justice By John Rawls
Communitarianism is a philosophy that emphasizes the connection between the individual and
the community cite needed. Although the community might be a family unit, communitarianism
usually is understood, in the wider, philosophical sense, as a collection of interactions, among a
community of people in a given place cite needed. Modern day communitarianism began in the
upper reaches of Anglo American academia in the form of a critical reaction to John Rawls
landmark 1971 book A Theory of Justice (Rawls 1971). Drawing primarily upon the insights of
Aristotle and Hegel, political philosophers such as Alasdair MacIntyre, Michael Sandel, Charles
Taylor and Michael Walzer disputed Rawls assumption that the principal task of government is to
secure and distribute fairly the liberties and economic resources individuals need to lead freely
chosen lives (Bell, 2001). Health Care and Ethics Health care professionals practice in an
environment that is complex. There are many regulations, laws and standards of practice that
healthcare workers must abide by. An ethical issue can occur when a doctor performs an abortion
that is legal but may not be considered ethical by other health care professionals or members of the
public at large. Other ethical dilemmas arise at the end of life, when a decision must be made to
turn off life support machines and allow death to occur (Greenwood, 2015). There are more ethical
issues that a health care professional might face on an
Good Communication Is Effective Communication
Good communication is effective communication; it provides direction, a clear goal, and encourages
the flow of ideas. Successful communication is achieved through a variety of methods, but most
importantly, it begins with a foundation of security and trust within the team. Successful
Communication
Over the past few weeks my group has been using our group discussion board as our primary method
of communication. Since beginning our power point project we have been posting updates,
questions and simple check ins to see how each member of the group is coming along with their
portion of the PowerPoint assignment. Our key to success has been because of our communication;
this is especially important because we are a virtual group. We touch base with each other regularly
for multiple reasons, the first being the need to establish a relationship.
In contrast to teams who meet face to face on a regular basis, we cannot pick up on non verbal clues
that are expressed through body language, nor are we able to establish an emotional connection with
one another; with that being said, we must maintain regular contact in order to build a rapport.
Secondly, regular communication allowed us to report progress and drawbacks that may hinder our
success. Moreover, scheduling regular periods of communication enforced accountability by
instituting periodic milestones of progress.
In previous experiences I have had working in collaborative groups, in regard to the importance of
communication,
What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Plaster Of Paris
Introduction:
Calcined gypsum (calcium sulphate hemihydrate, CaS04 1/2H20), often known as plaster of Paris,
is used extensively in the production casts to immobilize parts of the body and for making moulds
used in the make of orthotic and prosthetic devices.
Plaster models and casts have several advantages, and a few disadvantages. Everywhere available,
plaster is inert, adequately stable dimensionally, for the use at hand, and it is low price. Its key
disadvantage involves the time required for it to dry enough so that it may be modified and used for
the forming orthoses and prostheses.
Casting over a residual has allowed immediate rehabilitation with the help prosthesis. Plaster of Paris
is used in postoperative immobilisation and also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Removal of the cast requires destroying the cast itself ,the process is generally noisy, and needs
making use of a special oscillating saw that can easily cut the hard cast material but has difficulty
cutting soft material like cast padding or skin. Even though the removal is often painless, this can
be distressing process for the patient, especially for children. A cast saw can cut, abrade, or burn
skin, but those cases are very rare. Additionally, plaster of Paris casts break down if patients get them
Discuss The Role Of Cultural Factors In Raising Children
There are many cultural factors that come into play in the raising of children. One major factor is
the role of the mother and father in early childhood interactions. Kathleen Berger points to the
obvious differences between the way mothers and fathers interact with their young children. She
states that mothers tend to caress, read, sing... where as fathers tend to swing the baby through the
air (Berger 146). What is more, mothers tend to stay home from work to raise the children more
than fathers (Berger 154). Yet the best case scenario in raising children is for a father and motherto
both be involved. One such evidence is sited by Berger when she states, Close father infant
relationships can teach infants (especially boys) appropriate

Code of Practice 2011
Workplace health and safety Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney General

This Queensland code of practice was made by the Minister for Education and Industrial
Relations on 27 November 2011 and published in the Queensland Government Gazette on 2
December 2011. This code commences on 1 January 2012. This code is based on a national model
code of practice developed by Safe Work Australia and approved by the Workplace Relations
Ministers Council on 10 August 2011 as part of the harmonisation of work health and safety laws.

An approved code of practice is a practical guide to achieving the standards of health, safety and
welfare required under the WHS Act and the Work Health and Safety Regulations (the WHS
Regulations). A code of practice applies to anyone who has a duty of care in the circumstances
described in the code. In most cases, following an approved code of practice would achieve
compliance with the health and safety duties in the WHS Act, in relation to the subject matter of
the code. Like regulations, codes of practice deal with particular issues and do not cover all
hazards or risks that may arise. The health and safety duties require duty holders to consider all
risks associated with work, not only those for which regulations and codes of practice exist. Codes
of practice are admissible in court proceedings under the WHS Act and Regulations. Courts may
regard a code of practice as evidence of what is known about a hazard, risk or control and may rely
on the code in determining what is reasonably practicable in the circumstances to which the code
relates. Compliance with the WHS Act and Regulations may be achieved by following another
method, such as a technical or an industry standard, if it provides an equivalent or higher standard of
work health and safety than the code. An
Theraputic Hypothermia Essay
Theraputic Hypothermia

Hypothermia, defined as a core body temperature less than 95 °F(35°C) occurs

when heat loss exceeds the body s heat production. (Ruffolo p.47) Thermal stability in

humans depends on the body s ability to adapt to changes in internal and external

temperatures. Heat is transferred throughout tissues and fat, and is released at a rate

directly related to the temperature of the environment through radiation, conduction,

convection, and evaporation.

Hypothermia is typically seen as a bad thing; however, various studies have been

proving it to be very useful. Traumatic brain injury initiates several metabolic processes

that can exacerbate the injury. There is evidence that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taken together, the findings in these trials are important,

because in the United States so far, permanent brain damage after cardiopulmonary

cerebral resuscitation causes many delayed deaths and is seen in about 10to 30 percent of

survivors of out of hospital cardiac arrest. The fact that 2 studies yielded similar results

makes the important conclusions even more compelling. The rationale for the use of

therapeutic hypothermia is complex. Spontaneous uncontrolled hypothermia start with

potential deleterious shivering, thermo genesis , catecholamine release, and

vasoconstriction, there as controlled hypothermia is potentially beneficial. Therapeutic

hypothermia after cardiac arrest, as used in the 2 stories above, is directed at mitigating

neurological injury. Temperature levels are important; mild hypothermia (33°C to 36°C)

may be most effective, and is simple and safe. Moderate hypothermia (28°C to 32°C) can

cause arrhythmias or even ventricular fibrillation and if prolonged, can lead to

coagulopathy and infection. The timing and duration are important; mild hypothermia

should be initiated as soon as possible after resuscitation, but even when delayed for a few

hours, mild hypothermia has been shown to have some benefits un animal models of
cardiac arrest. Mild hypothermia induced in patients for 12
