theoreticians have tried to develop some definitions based on the relational properties of art,
changing the terms of the essential relationships between its properties.
On this terms, a very interesting approach has been suggested by Levinson (1979), who is
committed to the development of a definition in which the Art is identified through the relationship
with history.
Levinson (1979) argues that an object is a work of art if it has been created to be perceived and
evaluated in the same way that previous and recognized works of art have been received and
evaluated. In other words, what is art today resembles the continuing relationship which justifies the
attribution of the status of Artwork.
His theory, known as the Historical Intentional, is halfway between the Institutional and the other

Bob Yule is a very corrupt character. He beats his daughter, he doesn t care for his children, and in
the end of the book he tries to harm Scout and Jem, just because their father defended a black man
in court. Once his mind is made up, he will not change his course of action, which leads to his
own demise. We do not know where Mr. Yule went wrong, or when he changed, but we do have in
comparison his daughter, Mayella. She was simply following her father s lead in court, and
though she lied under oath, she still had a certain amount of innocence. She did not have a
vicious or malicious intent, but more as a scared girl. She was scared of her father and of what he

Loretta Lux grew up in Soviet occupied East Germany. She was raised inside the Berlin Wall that
came down when she was 20 years old. A year after the wall came down in 1990 Loretta stared
studying paintings and art which she perused until 1996. Three years on and she had started
studying photography. In 2004 she had her first solo show in America at the Yossi Milo Gallery,
New York. In 2005, Loretta received the Infinity Award for Art from the International Center of

In this application, I will research and analyze Anti Miscegenation Statutes within the United States
and evaluate two cases that are associated with them. Miscegenation is the method of mixing
varionus races, whether they are mixed by marriage, procreation, or even sexual intercourse. (Martin)
Anti Miscegenation laws embraced racial segregation because it was a crime for different races of
people to get married. These laws were initiated in the late 17th century and continued until 1967.
All of the anti miscegenation laws in the United States barred marriages that consisted of
individuals who were white and those who were considered non white. So a white male and black
woman could not have been married or even in a relationship without it being a crime back then.
Some examples of miscegenation laws was when Oklahoma in 1908 had a law on books that
barred marriages between Africans and non Africans, 1920, Louisiana barred marriages between
blacks and Native Americans, and in 1935, Maryland prohibited the marriages between Filipinos
and blacks. (Pascoe, 2009) Two cases that are relevant to miscegenation are Loving v. Virginiaand
Perez v. Sharp.
Loving v. Virginia
Facts of the case: this was a landmark civil rights case that overturned laws that prohibited
interracial marriage. The case involved a black woman named Mildred Loving and a white man
Richard Loving, who was sentenced to prison in the state of Virginia for getting married. It was a
crime because the marriage of the two was a violation of the state s anti miscegenation law, which
was called the Racial Integrity Act of 1924. The couple got married in Washington, DC and upon
their return they were indicted for unlawful cohabitation and placed in jail. Mildred Loving wrote a
letter to the Attorney General; who was Robert F. Kennedy for assistance and in return she was
referred to the ACLU who represented the couple in the case. The Supreme Court governed that
Virginia s bans on interracial marriages were considered unconstitutional. The court found that the

Niakoro doesn t know how to deal with her granddaughter whose maturity, her quickness, and her
intelligence astounded everybody and Niakoro most of all (5). My impression from reading the novel
is, and this is obviously a large generalization but true non the less, that African culture values the
