The Chocolate War Analysis
You can put a band aid on a cut but nothing can heal your mind. Within The Chocolate War by
Robert Cormier, Archie Costello s psychological tactics of violence are more useful than Emile
Janza s physical tactics. Archie manipulates the student body of Trinity with mind games such as
the assignments. Meanwhile, Emile is not very manipulative, he uses brutal and physically
hurtful ways to get to people. Archie is more effective of getting what he wants with using his
tactics of mind games, rather than Emile s brutal ways. Throughout Trinity, Archie Costello
makes the lives of the student body scarce. Part of this is his psychological stratagems. With the
assignments he comes up with, many of the kids tend to fall apart, like Goober. When selling the
chocolates, The Goober s breath came fast. But otherwise he felt nothing. He willed himself to
feel nothing. He didn t feel rotten. He didn t feel like a traitor. He didn t feel small and cowardly.
And if he didn t feel all of these things, then why was he crying all the way to his locker (Cormier
211). Goober is not selling the chocolates because he wants to stand up for Jerry, but Archie stops
this. He manipulates it and makes it seem as if Goober had sold all of them, defeating Goober s
purpose. With something as simple as this, Goober is in emotional pain and much instability.
Secondly, Archie even has a way to effectively torture Janza. Throughout, Archie repeatedly tells
Emile that he has an inappropriate picture of him,
ER Diagrams and Databases
Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, people have been trying to make their life easier
using machines. This has led to huge technological breakthroughs that brought about computers,
cars, airplanes etc. Nowadays computers are widely used to perform various tasks on users behalf.
Another people s passion since ancient times is to store and preserve information for the generations
to come (libraries, archives). During the 1960 s people s desire to store and retrieve information was
combined with the opportunities that computers offered to create the first computerized database.
This turned out to be a milestone in the way people manage information. It offered many
advantages: Data can be organised easy; it takes up very little physical space; users can search the
data for specific information; The Database can be shared between different users; it can be
accessed remotely etc. Due to these advantages, the new modern way of collecting data gradually
replaced paper Databases. It became a much more cost effective way for organisations and companies
to store their data. Currently, computer databases are being used everywhere: Facebook, online
stores such as Amazon and eBay, airports, hospitals, government institutions etc. Even the libraries
that are considered to be old fashioned have stored their information electronically.
However, databases have to meet some challenges. Nowadays, the purpose of databases is to serve
the demands of large scale companies. These
absolutism in europe Essay
Absolutism affected the power + status of the European nobility depending on the country in which
they lived. In England the power of the nobility increases due to a victory in the English Civil War
and the Glorious Revolution of 1658. However, in France, Louis XIV¡¯s absolutist regime decreased
the powers of the noble but heightened their material status. In Russia and in Prussia, the absolutist
leaders of those countries modernized their nations + the nobilityunderwent a change, but it retained
prestige + power.
Charles I considered himself to be an absolute monarch in England in the 1630¡¯s. A large portion of
the parliament dislikes him because they wanted more of a say on the government and because the ...

He built Versailles, a beautiful palace outside of Paris for his nobles. Lined with gardens and filled
with fountains + opulent architecture + decorations Versailles was a veritable playground for the
nobles. There were balls, fancy clothes + huge numbers of servants, and most of the nobles¡¯
incomes were spent on these luxuries. Thus, the status of the nobles was high and they were wealthy

During this same time Peter the Great sought to ¡°westernize¡± Russia. An autocratic tsar who had

Economic Health Of Oregon By Looking At Gross State...
The three most important indicators of economic health are output, employment and inflation.
Output is one of the indicators because if a country is producing more output, then less people
would be unemployed which leads to a healthier economy. Employment contributes to the indication
of economic health because when more people are employed then more output can be produced
contributing to Gross State Product. Inflation is an indication because it determines how much real
value is being lost(Graham). In this paper I will analytically discuss the economic health of Oregon
by looking at its Gross State Product, unemployment and cost of living. Gross State Product(GSP)
is the total dollar value of all final output produced within a state in a certain time period, usually
one year (Schiller). The aspects that contribute to a state s GSP are all private and public
consumption, government spending, investment and exports minus imports that occur within the
states borders. GDP reflects the valued added for products instead of the total value so that the GDP
is accurate ( Gross Domestic Product). Unemployment is the inability of the labor force to find
work and this contributes to the health of the economy. The cost of living The current level of real
GSP in Oregon is 199,393 millions of chained dollars. The one year change in GSP from 2014 2015
was 7775 millions of chained dollars. The change of 7775 millions of chain dollars is a big increase
and is a sign that the Oregon
Vladimir Lenin As A Hero
Heroes come in many shapes and sizes, throughout time many of them have risen and fallen. A
hero is characterized as someone that is a leader to his people, they reflect societal views, and yet
they have a major flaw that often causes their downfall. During the 20th century a revolutionary man
rose from his years of exile to lead the Bolshevik party into power, his name, Vladimir Lenin. Lenin
stands as a prime example of a leader that reflects Russias social values, and as a flaw for his
outspoken nature suffers from a near death assassination. Vladimir Lenin, like Achilles, looked for
ways that benefited him in order to gain power, he was an aggressive man that had a certain set of
beliefs that led to become a Marxist. Lenin enrolled in the Kazan University, only to be expelled
within his first term for participating in a student demonstration. During his time from his studies,
Lenin immersed himself in revolutionary politics, taking a large interest in Karl Marxs writings, this
later played a large influence during his time of power. Lenin in many cases is similar to
Achilles, a fictional warrior from the Iliad. In book 22, Priam compares Achilles to Orion s dog,
to Greeks this is a bad omen. Priam then turns to his son, who stands outside the gates of Troy, and
tells him this, He is more powerful by far than you, and pitiless (143, bk 22, lines 47 48). Priam
knows that Hector has no chance of winning against Achilles, for he is out to get revenge on the
death of his

Operational Level Command And Control Requires Both The
Operational level command and control requires both the effective execution of mission command
and integration of the joint functions. During Operation Husky, the Allies did not have a shared
understanding of the mission, did not have a clear understanding of commander s intent, and did not
exhibit mutual trust during the campaign. Disjointed Mission Command repeatedly prevented the
Alliesfrom capitalizing on the Allies collective combat power.
While the Allied Naval forces came through with incredible logistical accomplishments in the joint
function of sustainment, the Allies poor execution of movement and maneuver ultimately allowed

During the campaign, General Alexander s inability to grasp the significance of a German
withdrawal echoed the Allies lack of understanding at the Casablanca Conference. On the ground,
neither LTG Patton s 7th Army nor Montgomery s 8th Army understood that the true center of
gravity for the campaign lay in defeating the German forces and preventing their withdrawal. Instead,
the 7th Army and 8th Army sacked one town after another and got mired in various embattlements,
which gave the Germans enough time to withdraw to Italy in significant numbers. This strategic
blunder was a direct result of the lack of understanding. Commander s intent, the second key
component of Mission Command, provides subordinate commanders and units with a clear and
concise expression of the purpose of the operation and the desired military end state. Leaders who
understand the commander s intent can use that information to fill in any gaps in information as
those commanders move their units on the battlefield. In doing so, commanders can achieve
battlefield synergy when faced with poor communications from higher. The Casablanca Conference
left U.S. service members, and their general officers with an imperfect understanding of the ultimate
purpose of Operation Husky. This lack of clarity would ultimately have an adverse impact on the
resolution of the campaign. England saw Operation Husky as the first of several peripheral fights
that would attack
Finding Nemo By Pixar Animation Studios
Finding Nemo is produced by Pixar Animation Studios but was released by Disney. It tells a story
of a clown fish named Nemo, who was very curious about a boat off in the distance, as he goes to
see the strange object he is taken away from his father, Marlin. Marlin goes looking for his only
son, since his wife and all other children were killed by a barracuda, when he meets a fish with short
term memoryloss named Dory. They go on the adventure of finding Nemo, with the clue of an
address. Along the way they meet many different fish, as well as some sea turtles. Meanwhile,
Nemo has been taken to a fish tank in a dentist office, where all the fish are trying to escape the tank,
since they can see right out the window to their old home, the... Show more content on

This left Nemo with a bad fin, which added to his father s distress, and obsessive need to keep
him safe at all times. This teaches kids that parents are trying to protect their children, and that
even if children do not understand their motives in the rules and boundaries set, that they should
listen and do as they say. The unintended meaning of Finding Nemo is very complex, and there s
multiple hidden meanings. One of which is a good lesson, which is it is good to get out of your
comfort zone and meet people who are different than you. When Marlin is forced out of his
familiar home, he has to meet many different type of fish. He encounters a group of sharks. While
he is frightened, Dory remains optimistic. Marlin has the opportunity to debunk all of the
stereotypes he has believed throughout his life, for example, the idea that all sharks are mean,
aggressive killers who enjoy killing innocent fish. He learns that in reality these sharks try their
hardest to follow the idea that fish are friends, not food . He also encounters the sea turtle Crush,
and his son Squirt. He is put very far out of his comfort zone here, being in a fast pace, dangerous
situation. He also gets to witness a different type of parenting, an open and trustful one, that allows
Squirt to push his boundaries and do things that Marlin would have never allowed Nemo to do,
especially after the worst thing they were trying to prevent,
Analysis Of Claude Levi Strauss s Black As Slacker...
Claude Lévi Strauss was a French anthropologist who believed that the myths created and told by
a society could be a window into the beliefs and conflicts of that society. As a Structuralist, Lévi
Strauss saw stories as language and sought to understand their underlying grammar. This he
believed centered on pairs of opposite ideas, held by the culture, but creating tension within it the
raw and the cooked, the sacred and the profane, and so on. School of Rock, a 2003 film starring
Jack Black as slacker Dewey Finn, shows the tension between a truly American pair of opposites:
laziness vs. hard work. While in other mythologies it is a trickster character who mediates between
these opposites, the nature of this American pair, and the surrounding culture, make it necessary
that the trickster not remain so; he has to join one side or the other. Claude Lévi Strauss sought a
scientific approach to the interpretation of the meaning of myths. To perform an analysis, he would
first collect every version and variant of a myth possible. Each version would be broken down into
its individual plot elements, and these elements were then plotted on a chart to show how they fit
together. The charts would be compared across variants, and eventually the true meaning of the myth
would emerge. Any scientist knows that a large data pool is indispensable for getting good results.
Unfortunately, there is only one School of Rock. Though I cannot be so thorough as he would have
liked, the

The Pros And Cons Of Joint Implants
Many years back one may have not of thought that a joint could be replaced with an implant, the
implant also being man made. Between the years 1960 and 1970 there were a number of materials
that were tried as joint implants. Some materials that were tired were; stainless steel, cobalt
chromium, and Teflon. While between 1980 1990 cobalt chromium and polyethylene was the choice
material for implants. Many materials are tired because of the problem with ear and friction. As
small particles from the implant are shed into the surrounding joint cavity, it causes and aggressive
inflammatory response and possible osteolysis. The many types of materials are tested and studied
for solution. The best research comes from clinical results of patients who have had a joint replaced
by an implant.
The main reasons one seeks joint replacement is for the relief of pain and improved joint function

One problem a person could face with implants is that if may cause blood clots, which in turn
could lead to issues such as deep venous thrombosis. Another disadvantage could be stiffness or
the implant not working properly. The goal of the implant is to mimic the use of a real joint.
When this does not happen the patient may find themselves having to return to the operating
room for an adjustment, replacement or removal of some kind. Over time after about 15 to 20
years the implant will eventually wear and require replacement. So time could also be seen as a
disadvantage. Sometimes the implant will dislocate or loosen, but this should rarely occur. An
implant may have some cosmetic appearance issues. The implant may cause the joint to look
different, it may be uneven, and of course it will leave a scar. By having an implant to replace a
joint it could make ones quality of life seem
Kelly V. Movie Theater Essay
A. Kelly v Movie Theater: Negligence Negligence requires a showing that a duty was owed, that
the duty was breached, and that the breach was the actual and proximate cause of damages.
Special Duty Land Occupier Invitee A special duty arises in circumstances involving a land
occupier. An invitee is one who enters the land with the owner s permission for the purpose
related to the activity. The landowner owes an invitee a duty of care to inspect and discover any
dangerous condition and to make the premises safe. Kelly went to the Movie Theater to see a
movie. Hence, Kelly is a social guest entering with Movie Theater s permission and thus an invitee.

Their failure to warn Cindy of the cord across the movie aisle, and the failure to make sure
persons using the restroom would be able to see the sign created a dangerous condition which
was a breach of their duty of due care. Therefore, Movie Theater breached their duty of due care.
Actual Causation But for Movie Theater s failure to properly warn of the cord running across the
aisle and the failure to properly warn of the wet restroom floor, Cindy and Sandy would not have
been injured. Thus, Movie Theater was the actual cause of Cindy s and Sandy s injuries.
Proximate Causation Cindy and Sandy will argue that there injuries from their falls was a
foreseeable result from falling over a cord that was across the aisle and a wet floor in the
restroom. Movie Theater will argue that the independent contractor who was cleaning the
Theater left the plugged cord from the vacuum across the aisle and he was an intervening act.
However, the independent contractor may be an indirect act, but foreseeable and thus will not
sever causation to relieve defendant of liability of the intervening negligence. As discussed
Movie Theater failed to properly warn Cindy of the cord and Sandy of the wet floor, and therefore it
is foreseeable one could be injured by water on the floor. Therefore, Movie Theater is the proximate
cause of all of Cindy s and Sandy s injuries. Damages Defined supra. Cindy and Sandy
The Problem Of A Student
Everyone has questions when starting something new, will I make it? what is this all about, or
am I even smart enough to even considering such a huge commitment? These may be just a few
that new students are asking themselves when they first click that first button. How about the
person that has not been in a school setting in a number of years? If you have ever questioned any
of these, you have come to the right place. It seems that everyone has their mind set on
accomplishing something in there life. The difference now, is that a student has to have an
intentional mindset to become a successful in whatever area they are interested in. Before the age
of the computers people carried on face to face conversations. The connections people made were
relevant in so many ways that some may say that has been lost in technology. This is not the
debate, it is how far students are willing to forge what is not comfortable and bring it to a level of
relevance in their own lives. When I read the part of this book and we started to break down what
that really was my thinking changed. My learning patterns are Sequence (30) Precision (30)

Night Terror Vs Nightmares Research Paper
Nightmares Vs Night Terrors:
People don t really know the difference between nightmares and night terrors unless they experience
it. Nightmares and Night terrors are somewhat similar but different in many ways. A nightmare is
basically a terrifying dream in which the dreamer experiences various feelings such as helplessness,
extreme anxiety, sorrow, etc. Night terrors are a form of sleep disorder in which a person partially
awakens from sleep in a state of terror. (alaska sleep)The reason I choose this topic was because I
think it s something that would be beneficial to learn, I wanted to know the difference between them,

Other reasons can be confusion, guilt, disgust, and sadness. (Stanford For Kids) When someone
fears something they are frightened or when someone sees a horror movie they react differently
than when they see a comedy movie. This is because horror movies build up tension which makes
us curious, but also terrified of what might happen or pop out. Nightmares can help us find out fears
that we have, but never knew we had. If it s not fear that causes nightmares than it is most likely
confusion, guilt, disgust, etc. Which can stay with you longer than a nightmare caused by fear.

Having a lot of stress can be one of the main reasons to have a nightmare. Having a nightmare that
is caused by stress is actually helpful, it helps get rid of all the stress, since you let most of your
emotions out through nightmares. When you get so overwhelmed during a nightmare you will
probably be tired afterwards. This means that after your nightmare you will be more relaxed because
all your emotions, stress, and fear is gone. Having nightmares really does help, let out all negative
thoughts or negative things in general. The reasons for having night terrors are actually similar but
not
