The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) is the primary body responsible for
investigating offences under Pakistan’s Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016. It replaces
the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing, holding exclusive authority on online harassment, blackmail, identity
theft, and hacking, operating under Sections 29 to 32 of PECA.
Under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, specific provisions outline the powers of
investigation. Section 30 grants the authority to search and seize electronic devices, provided a court
warrant is obtained. Section 31 allows for the retention of data necessary for ongoing investigations,
while Section 32 mandates service providers to disclose relevant data upon court orders.
Additionally, Section 27 establishes special courts to try PECA-related offences. These courts are
expected to conclude trials within six months.
