GUMAKA: Gabay Upang Magtagumpay Ang Kabataan sa Pagbasa

Program Description:

GUMAKA is a reading intervention and enrichment program designed to develop and enhance
the reading skills of learners through structured, engaging, and contextualized literacy activities.
The program aims to create a culture of reading among pupils and encourage parental and
community involvement in literacy development.

Meaning of GUMAKA:

Kabataan sa
Akademya

("A guide to help the youth succeed in academics through reading.")

Objectives:

1. To improve the reading proficiency levels of pupils, especially struggling readers.


2. To cultivate a love for reading among learners.
3. To engage stakeholders (parents, barangay officials, alumni) in supporting reading
activities.
4. To support teachers in implementing innovative and effective reading strategies.

Target Learners:

 Grades 1 to 6 pupils, with focus on learners identified as struggling or non-readers.

Program Components:
1. Daily Reading Routine – 15–20 minutes daily silent or guided reading sessions.
2. Reading Remediation – Focused reading support sessions using level-appropriate
materials.
3. Peer Reading Buddies – Pairing readers with non-readers to build reading confidence.
4. Weekend “Basahan sa Barangay” – Community-based storytelling and reading aloud
activities.
5. Parent Engagement – Parent reading workshops and take-home reading kits.
6. Monthly Reading Celebrations – Reading festivals, storytelling contests, and read-a-
thons.

Schedule:

 Implementation Period: SY 2025–2026 (July to March)


 Monitoring & Evaluation: Quarterly assessment using school-based reading profiles
(e.g., Phil-IRI)

Expected Outcomes:

 Improved reading levels across all grade levels.


 Increased learner interest and motivation in reading.
 Stronger home-school-community partnerships for literacy.
