Power Imbalances
I found the article by Parker to be a wonderful and insightful view of the nursing profession. I found
the notion that nursing practices inherently contribute to imbalances of power thought provoking. I
believe that these imbalances come from a multitude of reasons that have been entrenched within our
history. I believe that the past hierarchical approach to our healthcare system has significantly
influenced power imbalances. Additionally, nurses listening to doctors without question and
participating often in roles associated with being matriarchal, and caring, while doctors have been
viewed as the patriarchy or more so in leadership type positions has been influential to our past.
There was also a certain degree of incongruity towards the
Investigating The Bonding Of A Carbohydrate
Carbohydrate Analysis
Introduction and Purpose Carbohydrates are organic compounds that consist of carbon, oxygen,
and hydrogen. There are four different ways that carbohydrates can be classified:
monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides. Monosaccharides are the simplest
sugars. They are aliphatic aldehydes or ketones and most have five or six carbon atoms.
Oligosaccharides are two monosaccharides linked together by the elimination of a water molecule
which allows the glycosidic bond can form. Polysaccharides contain more than one glycosidic bond
and are the heaviest and most prominent natural forms of carbohydrates (Mcclemmon).
Carbohydrates also have the potential to be reducing sugars. This means they have a free aldehyde
or ketone group that is capable of acting as a reducing agent. All monosaccharides are reducing
sugars and the other forms have the potential to be one. There are several different ways to identify
the bonding of a carbohydrate in the lab. In this lab, combinations of several different tests were
used in order to determine which functional groups were present. Benedict s and Barfoed s tests
both test for the presence of a reducing sugar. Benedict s reagent produces a red precipitate when
heated in a the presence of a reducing sugar. Barfoed s reagent tests for reducing sugar as well, but
does not test for it in disaccharides, so this test is used to distinguish between monosaccharides and
disaccharides. Disaccharides are not oxidized

The Changing Role of Organizational Performance Measurement System
How to create and measure organizational performance measurement system has been a persistent
source of debate. Traditionally, organizational performance management system included measuring
financial ratios, such as return on investments, cash flows, and cost of sales.
Figure one below depicts traditional performance indicators, focused mostly on financial measures.
Figure One Source: Frederico and Cavenaghi 2009
In the recent years the focus has been on measuring non financial ratios, such as quality, customer
satisfaction, safety and other stakeholders. Figure Two shows the new performance indicators,
incorporating quality together with other financial indicators.

Furthermore, according to Shackleton (2007) financial measures prohibit the guidance and
evaluation of an organization s ability to create future value through investments in customers,
suppliers, employees, processes, technology and innovation. Shacketon agues that the pressure for
reporting on corporate performance today, has confronted the traditional managerial
The Importance Of Collecting Student Loans
When it comes to debt, the most relentless creditor to have is the federal government. Student loans
that are not paid in a timely manner will be forwarded to a collection department or agency. The
government utilizes private collection agencies to collect these back loans on their behalf, and they
forward delinquent loans to these services very quickly. The problem in now dealing with a
collection agency is that your credit score will suffer if your student loanstays in delinquent status.
The best option is to be proactive and call the agency to work out a payment plan to get back on
track.
The government agency responsible for issuing student loans, the U.S. Department of Education,
offers deferments for those still enrolled at least
Heroism In The Outsiders
Heroism is a general term which means having or performing the qualities of a hero. This past
month, in English and Civics, students have researched and have explored the meaning of heroism
using the 8th grade themes of Order and Chaos. Specifically in English, students have examined
both literary and real life heroes which have either worked in areas of chaos or in order. In English,
students read novels written about heroes in areas of chaos and order. Personally I have learned the
nature of heroism through chaos and order by reading the book, The Outsiders. Ponyboy, the main
character, has acted as a heroin a time of chaos when he saved the children from a church on fire.
Ponyboy risked his own life to save those kids, which was an act
IEP Meeting Summary
Special education students are delayed in there learning process. To resolve the gap in learning
abilities Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) obliges by law that all public schools
to create an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for every child that receives special
educational services. IDEA inspires to create an effective relationship amongst the parents and
school that boost an educational team with the goals of providing the student with proper services
(Mueller, 2009). In Each IEP meeting it involves the IEP team, IEP sections that addresses the
student with disabilities educational progress. Under IDEA the law mandates the student to have an
