Our first day in the community we arrived at 6:30 AM. Upon arrival of our
clinical instructors, we reviewed the spot map and assigned houses to each pair for
interviews. This helped us organize our tasks and plan our visits efficiently. Afterward,
we toured the barangay to familiarize ourselves with the environment, observe the living
conditions, and identify key landmarks such as health centers and community facilities.
From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, we had an orientation that provided an overview of our
responsibilities and expectations for the fieldwork. By 10:00 AM, we started interviewing
families, and by the end of the day, we had successfully completed four interviews.

Throughout the day, I gained valuable insights into the importance of planning
and community engagement in community health nursing. Reviewing the spot map
beforehand helped us navigate the area, while the barangay tour allowed us to better
understand the community’s accessibility to healthcare services. Conducting the
interviews was a learning experience that improved my communication skills, as I had to
establish rapport with families and ask relevant health-related questions. Some families
were hesitant to share personal information, which challenged me to approach them with
sensitivity and reassurance.

Despite the productive day, there were some challenges, such as families being
unavailable for interviews because of personal reasons, work and business, which
required us to adjust our schedule. The hot weather also made fieldwork physically
demanding, emphasizing the need for proper hydration and breaks. Moving forward, I
aim to enhance my interviewing techniques by preparing structured questions to make the
process smoother and more efficient. Overall, the first day was a great learning
experience that provided me with a deeper understanding of the community and the
realities of community health nursing.

Today, we started a little earlier since we had already completed our orientation
the previous day. By 7:30 AM, we began interviewing families again, aiming to cover as
many as possible. However, the extreme heat made the day particularly exhausting, and
we had to be mindful of staying hydrated and taking short breaks when needed. Despite
the challenging weather, my partner and I managed to complete interviews with six
families, bringing our total to ten families over the past two days.

The experience today reinforced the importance of adaptability and endurance in

community health nursing. The heat was physically draining, but we remained focused on
gathering accurate health data and engaging with the families in a respectful and
empathetic manner. Compared to yesterday, I felt more confident in conducting
interviews, as I was becoming more familiar with the process and better at establishing
rapport with the community members.

Although the day was tiring, it was also fulfilling, knowing that we were making
progress in our community assessment. Moving forward, I will ensure to take necessary
precautions against extreme weather conditions, such as wearing appropriate clothing so
we won’t get burned by the heat and staying hydrated. Overall, today’s experience
highlighted the physical demands of fieldwork but also strengthened my ability to adapt
and stay committed to my responsibilities as a future community health nurse.
