The Man On The Palfrey Behind The Fairy Queen Essay
Alexandria Irion

The Man on the Palfrey Behind the Fairy Queen Medieval literature offers insight on gender,
class, and race that our generation is still trying to understand. I aim to explore the reason why
gender roles in Marie de France s Lai de Lanval are flipped, and if this particular lai has an
underlying political purpose. Marie de France was one of the most significant female writers of the
Medieval Ages, and her romance work focuses on women along with their internal motivation rather
than heroic acts of men. Her particular style of writing has brought attention to the way she creates
her characters and plot. Several of Marie s characters have interesting qualities, and perform certain
actions that have caused the literary realm to take notice. Lanval himself being the main character
attracts the majority of the attention: why did Marie choose to feminize him? The fairy queen also
raises questions of women given masculine qualities, and why her role seemed much more like that
of a man in the writings of other writers during Marie s time. King Arthur and his queen, Guinevere,
have a curious relationship and interact with each other and others in a manner that deserves a closer
look. After viewing the gender roles of each of these characters, I want to discuss the possibility
that Marie depicted her characters the way she did to take a political stance. However, before we
can delve into the realm of underlying
To Kill A Mockingbird Monologue
Dill left us early in September, to return to Meridian. We saw him off on the five o clock bus and I
was miserable without him until it occurred to me that I would be starting to school in a week. I
never looked forward more to anything in my life. Hours of wintertime had found me in the
treehouse, looking over at the schoolyard, spying on multitudes of children through a two power
telescope Jem had given me, learning their games, following Jem s red jacket through wriggling

circles of blind man s buff, secretly sharing their misfortunes and minor victories. I longed to join
them.
Jem condescended to take me to school the first day, a job usually done by one s parents, but Atticus

If he didn t teach you, who did? Miss Caroline asked good naturedly. Somebody did. You weren t

How To Manage Emotional Dysregulation
The process of learning healthy, functional methods to manage emotional states is a life long task
with key critical periods in early childhood and adolescence. Emotional regulation dysfunction results
from a combination of emotional vulnerability that reacts with overly sensitive responses on the part
of the patient and an inability to modulate the resulting emotions. Experiences with this type of
dysregulation are common, if not typical, of human development and are usually amenable and
responsive to newly acquired coping strategies or the restructuring of old ones. When the
dysregulation is resilient and persists over time, cognitive distortions, ruminations, and sub optimal
coping strategies will emerge to establish and perpetuate a... Show more content on [Link]

Fields, R. D. (2010) explained how learning creates new brain circuitry or strengthens existing task
specific neural pathways by enhancing and reinforcing synaptic connections and improving signal
transmission via thicker axonal myelination. With the examples of music, juggling, and reading,
Fields showed alterations in white matter structural organization and increased myelination in
response to targeted training which improved task performance. The author also elucidated how
electrical activity regulates myelination of axons by increasing the activity of nearby
oligodendrocytes. Unfortunately, there may be a down side to this as undesirable habits can be
reinforced as well. Children are at increased risk because myelination is most easily achieved from
birth to age six. Since emotional regulation is a learned skill, myelination may be an important
aspect of mental disorders and these two things are not mutually exclusive. Disrupted and incomplete
myelination could explain aberrations in neural firing and signal transmission in specific brain
regions linked to certain psychopathologies. Repeated experiences with dysregulated emotions and
behavior can be reinforced via increased myelination of the related neural
Student Academic And Social Success And Encourage Lifelong...
Introduction To maximize student academic and social success and to encourage lifelong learning
and citizenship. is the mission statement for Van Buren Elementary School. In order to maximize
student achievement teacher leaders and administration must work in unison to identify goals for
improvement. By analyzing data teacher leaders, administrators, and teachers can work together to
derive a goal in the area of literacy instruction pertinent to our school. According to Taylor and
Francis, By design or default, teachers also are leaders of change, whether they promote it, support
it, resist it, or ignore it. (Taylor Francis, 2014, 102 103) Henceforth, teacher leadership will be
essential to achieve our literacy instruction goals.

Iowa adopted a Universal Screener (FAST, Iowa Tier) in 2013, which is a universal screening in
reading for grades K 3. Students that scored substantially deficient in reading were then required to
be progress monitored weekly, provided intensive reading instruction, which includes 90 minutes a
day of scientific, research based reading instruction, notification of parents, and finally, grade level
retention if the student is not proficient by the end of third grade. The students in grades K 3 are
universally screened three times per year.
Iowa schools are also required to provide an intensive summer reading program for any student who
is substantially deficient in reading by May 1, 2017. Additionally,
Greeting To An American Essay
There are certain customs based on the specific country a person should follow when entering a
country that is not familiar with them. This means that if a person is about to operate or visit a
country, they should study their specific customs so there isn t any miscommunication. For example,
when greeting someone, man to man, a handshake with the right hand is a common form and will
possibly linger a bit during the conversation. To women to women, a verbal greeting or even a
handshake is also common. Between a man and woman, verbal greetingsare also welcome, along
with a handshake in a more formal or business situation. In Senegal, greetings are very important and
questions about your health, family, and different pleasantries. When greeting someone, do not rush
the greeting and hold a positive relationship. This is due to personal relationships being an important

Metaphors and analogies will be used when talking about delicate issues because it is seen as
polite rather than direct. Also, people state their needs rather than making direct requests. Their
personal space and touching correlates with the standard of Americans. It is acceptable to hold a
little less than an arm s length from a person while making conversation. Men in Senegal can be
seen holding hands while walking in public because it shows a sign of friendship. Touching
between men and women are little to non existent and more personal space is given. During a
discussion, especially when speaking to elders or people of authority, indirect eye contact is
acceptable. Lower your eye contact is a sign of
Sadducees And Herodians Essay

Sadducees, the Pharisees, and the Herodians. They were often referred as the ruling council at that
[Link] Sadducees were aristocrats which were wealthy and held powerful positions and were
often called the liberal scholars of Christ s day . They were the ones who controlled the state locally,
spoke to the state universally, directed relations with the Romans, participated in the Sanhedrin,
prepared and drove the army, and gathered taxes. They did not relate well with the common man, nor
did the common man hold them in high opinion. In comparison to the Sadducees, the Phariseeswere

A striking similarity was that they all were against Jesus and His teachings. Those three most
overwhelming, political, and religious gatherings wanted to kill Him. So they all joined efforts
to do everything needed to reach their goal. They place all they trust in what each of them
accepted as reality, insulting the critical fact that the main teachings was from God, through His
Son, Jesus Christ. This work has revealed one customary conviction about these three religious
groups their solid lack of regard for Jesus. Their unbelief drove them to impact God s people to
have confidence in their conviction rather than the truth that lays in Christ alone. Perhaps the best
lesson that can be learned from those three religious gatherings is to believe everything the Bible
says, including the miraculous and the afterlife unlike the Sadducees. One should not treat
traditions as having equal authority as Scripture, and not allow our relationship with God to be
reduced to a legalistic list of rules and rituals unlike the Pharisees. Romans 14:12 says, So then,
each one will give an account of himself to God. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and Herodians drove
the all inclusive community of God into ungodly and religious beliefs. One day they will be judge
according to what they did and each individuals will have to give an account of himself to
My Experience At Tuskegee University
My experience began as early as college, when I used to volunteer with school going children in
orphanages, and would advise them on the social problems they faced in school. That is when I
decided that being a school counselor was the perfect job for me. Having started at an early age, I
find that my expertise does in fact lie in helping students deal with social pressure, and helping
them cope with the stress and frustration it brings. I have also been successfully able to help
students improve their self esteem by making them focus on past successes, so that they may be
able to garner the strength for future aspirations. I don t think age has any role to play when it
comes to warming up to students. As long as they can find a mentor, a guide and trust in someone,
they are likely to open up to them.
As I started my college career at Tuskegee University, where I double majored in psychology and
English. I was passionate about creating social awareness and helping people, but I was unsure what
career I was interested in after graduation. I thought about attending graduate school for Counseling
Psychology, but I just was not sure about it. I spoke to a professor in the Counselor Education
program at Georgia State University and discussed my interests with her. She suggested I look for a
program accredited by Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs
(CACREP) School Counseling. I enrolled in the School Counseling program at Clark Atlanta
My Thoughts On The Skills Essay
Introduction
In my essay, I will be reflecting on my thoughts and feelings on the skill practiced on the DVD.
The essay will also be detailing the working alliance, the relevant skills, models, and theoretical
principles. The essay will be supported with references of the books that I used to develop the
discussion.
I will be concentrating more on the skills that I use on the video. I will discuss how important they
are in counselling relationship. I will also define some other skills I used in the video accordingly.
Main body
The beginning stage I felt the nerve kicked in as I sat down and as soon as I realised the video had
started rolling but I managed to calm down and was able to compose myself.
In the beginning of a session, my main concern as the counsellor was to build and establish a
working relationship with my client (working alliance). As the counsellor I needed to develop the
kind of relationship in which my client is encouraged to work. I tried to negotiate a contract with
the client. I believe that in doing so, I should be able to clarify and define my client s problem and
assess whether or not counselling is likely to help specific needs and also whether or not I am will
be able to work with the client to help her achieve what she want. In other words, as the counsellor
my main aim was the intended outcome and what both my client and I want to achieve. (Sue Culley,
Integrative counselling skills in action).

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Steel
CHAPTER 5 MATERIALS USED
5.1 STEEL:
ADVANTAGES OF STEEL AS A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL
Strength of steel is approximately ten times that of concrete. Due to its large strength to weight ratio,
steel structures tend to be more economical than concrete structures for tall buildings and large span
buildings and bridges.
Steel structures can be constructed very fast.
Steel structures are ductile and robust. Steel structures can be easily repaired and retrofitted to carry
higher loads.
Steel is also a very eco friendly material.
Since steel is produced in the factory under better quality control, steel structures have higher
reliability and safety.
DISATVANTAGES OF STEEL:
Steel structures when placed in exposed conditions leads to corrosion. ... Show more content on

Shrinkage of concrete
Shrinkage is the time dependent deformation, generally compressive in nature. The constituents of
concrete, size of the member and environmental conditions are the factors on which the total
shrinkage of concrete depends. However, the total shrinkage of concrete is most influenced by the
total amount of water present in the concrete at the time of mixing for a given humidity and
temperature. The cement content, however, influences the total shrinkage of concrete to a lesser
extent. The approximate value of the total shrinkage strain for design is taken as 0.0003 in the
absence of test data (cl. [Link]).
Thermal expansion of concrete: The knowledge of thermal expansion of concrete is very important
as it is prepared and remains in service at a wide range of temperature in different countries having
very hot or cold climates. Moreover, concrete will be having its effect of high temperature during
fire. The coefficient of thermal expansion depends on the nature of cement, aggregate, cement
content, relative humidity and size of the section. IS 456 stipulates (cl. 6.2.6) the values of
coefficient of thermal expansion for concrete / oC for different types of
Imprisonment In Corrections
The American justice system is always changing due to societal evolution and updates to laws, the
correctional system has gone through drastic, but necessary changes over the past couple of decades.
Living conditions and medical care in correctional institutions, and the lack thereof has been a topic
of discussion throughout both government and public spaces. Criminal activity has been a constant
globally, it is unavoidable, and it has progressively gotten worse with all the technological advances.
New concepts and alternative methods of confinement, treatments, and rehabilitation have been
introduced to the correctional system to better protect the public and inmates.
Imprisonment is a newer concept, retaliation, torture, death, and fines were more common ways of
punishment hundreds of years ago, the offender had little to no rights. Retribution and deterrence
were the focus of punishment, the type of crime committed would determine what kind of method
would be used to make an offender suffer their consequences. Corporal punishment included,
mutilation, branding, and public humiliation, for instance, liars would have their tongues ripped out,

Criminology and penology were mere ideas and theories at the time, holding offenders against their
will was originally used just to hold them until authorities accessed the appropriate punishment. It
was a slow transition from caged holding, to confinement in dungeons and sanctuaries, eventually it
was thought that penitence through isolation and prayer was a proper form of punishment. This
form of isolation was the foundation of the first penitentiary systems, but again because there were
only concepts and ideas it took many years and modifications to see any advancements
Family Planning And Its Effects On Women s Status And...
Family planning is the ability for couples to anticipate and achieve their desired number of
children and the spacing of their births. The fertility rate of a country can depend on many factors
such as religion, the social status of women, access to health care and the ideal family size.
Successful family programs aim to change all these things, the effects of these programs are far
reaching and often go beyond what was planned. First world countries don t often need a family
planningprogram, due to an increase in women s status and education. But third world countries who
wish to keep their populationdown due to economic, space, or resources issues must implement some
form of family planning. From harsh laws to changing social norms countries across the globe have
begun to see the effects of their programs. Family planning programs can change many aspects of
life in developing countries, the changes they make are effect by many things such as the
government s willingness to support them and current social values. In most cases family planning
brings about a positive change in the communities it effects.
China s famous family planning programs started in 1962, family planning policies varying from
province to province. As described in Family Planning Policy in China: Measurement and Impact on
Fertility the general policy was no more than three children and mainly promoted through political
and social movements. in 1971 the family planning became uniform across the
Freezing Point Depression Lab
Introduction The objectives in this laboratory were to be able to calculate the freezing point
depression among three trials of unknowns, be able to correctly measure the freezing points of p
xylene, and to be able to calculate the molar masses of the unknowns by found freezing point
depression values. This was done to be able to understand and apply a concept names supercooling.
Supercooling is when a liquidis put far under its original freezing point and remains a liquid or gas.
This happens when a substance is cooled so quickly that it s easier for it to stay a liquid than to
crystalize, until it reached its nucleation point and begins to heat up returning to its freezing point
(image 4). The supercooling of p xylene was observed in three... Show more content on

With time (t) on the x axis and temperature (Celsius) on the y axis, the exponential change could be
easily observed. At the beginning of the laboratory the masses of the combined polypropylene
test tube and 100 mL beaker were recorded by a digital electronic scale. A dry polypropylene test
tube was obtained and approximately 2 mL of p xylene was squirted into it with the use of a
pipette. This was added to the beaker and weighed. 10 drops of toluene was then added and
weighed again. The polypropylene test tube, which now contained 10 mL of p xylene and 10
drops toluene was removed from the beaker and placed into a replica 100 mL beaker which was
halfway filled with an ice water mixture. The temperature sensor, which was connected to the
microlab application was placed inside of the polypropylene test tube and stirred rapidly around the
outskirts of the bottom of the polypropylene test tube. The mixture began freezing, giving off an icy
slush complex. Once the temperature appeared to have reached the nucleation point and leveled out
at its freezing point, the application was stopped. This value was recorded in the laboratory manual.
The temperature sensor was rinsed off then wiped, the beaker was re filled with ice, and the test
tube was put into the test tube rack to be thawed. Once thawed, this was discarded into the waste bin
Christopher Columbus Positive Influences
The Beginning of a New Era
Some people may think Christopher Columbus journey was a waste of money, due to all the rumors
about the horrible journey to the new lands. However imagine the world today without all the
distinct cultures, unique languages, and many other important factors of everyday life today. If no
one stepped out of their comfort zones, the United States would be uneducated about the world
people lived in back then to present time. Life would be filled with more unknown mysteries then it
already is. Columbus voyage to the New World was best for the United States. His voyage had many
positive influences on our country such as discovering different cultures, new and unique religions,
interesting languages, along with new beautiful landscapes.
One of the many positive influences Columbus journey had on the United States is discovering
different cultures. The main culture focused on in this essay is food culture. The world wouldn t
have discovered different food cultures if no one stepped out of their comfort zones. Imagine how
bland the food choices would be if no one took the step to new discoveries. Furthermore in 1492

qualities that were stunning and still could be considered stunning today. These islands had beautiful
meadows filled with lofty trees and flourishing flowers, along with riches of thriving fruits and
