ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT
Week 2 (June 09 – June 13, 2025)
BASIC INFORMATION
NAME OF STUDENT JAN CHRISTIAN M. ARSEÑA
SUBJECT CODE & DESCRIPTION CE 139 – ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
NO. OF CREDITED UNITS 3 UNITS
SEMESTER & SCHOOL YEAR SUMMER, SY. 2024-2025
OJT COORDINATORS ENGR. NURJIMAR A. UJAJI
ASSIGNED CONSTRUCTION FIRM METROZAMBO CONSTRUCTION
FOR OJT
ACTIVITY / PROJECT NO. 1.1
ACTIVITY/PROJECT NAME CONSTRUCTION OF FLOOD CONTROL
STRUCTURE SITE INSPECTION, CONTINUATION
OF STATIONING
DESCRIPTION OF THE Continuation of stationing from last visit. From 0+960 all the
ACTIVITY/PROJECT way to 1+020. Making sure marking every 20 meters with an
arrow and its station.
OBEJCTIVE/S To continue the stationing as far as we can with the ultimate
goal of 1+051 for both structures.
LOCATION Sinubong, Zamboanga City
LEARNING OUTCOMES I learned that the process of meticulously marking and
making sure that the measurements we are taking are
correct takes a lot of patience and endurance to finish the
task effectively and efficiently. Making sure that the long tape
is stretched and properly wrapped around sharp and curved
edges can be tough when you do not have communication
with your team. I learned that failing in the communication
with your team can induce mistakes in your work without you
spotting it right away.

ACTIVITY / PROJECT NO. 1.2
ACTIVITY/PROJECT NAME LECTURE ON ESTIMATION OF CONCRETE
HOLLOW BLOCKS IN A FENCING STRUCTURE
DESCRIPTION OF THE A lecture by the engineer showing us how to estimate the
ACTIVITY/PROJECT number of CHB needed for a structure, with that also
computing the cement bags, volume of sand and gravel, for
its mortar mixture and plastering and estimating the most
economical use of trucks to contain the computed or
estimated volume of sand, from the type of mortar mixture to
be used.
OBEJCTIVE/S To estimate the number of CHBs to be used in our assigned
area, and compute its mortar and plaster with a detailed
computation in the number of bags of cement, volume of
sand.
LOCATION Asinan, Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City
LEARNING OUTCOMES I learned how to estimate how many CHBs to use in a certain
structure given its area, which I learned is that for 1 square
meter of area, you can fit 12.5 pieces of CHBs, and there is
a standard dimension of CHBs being 0.2 meters for its
height, 0.4 meters for its length or run distance, and its width
or thickness are the only ones that vary; for 4” CHBs, they
are measured to be 0.1 meters, and for 6” CHBs, they are
measured to be 0.15 meters. And I learned that all of these
measurement considerations are crunched down by
professionals, making it easier for us to calculate its mortar.
We used a book for estimates, which was provided by the
engineer, and used a table, which made it so fast in
calculating the bags of cement and volume of sand needed
for the mortar and also for the plastering.

ACTIVITY / PROJECT NO. 1.3
ACTIVITY/PROJECT NAME CONSTRUCTION OF FLOOD CONTROL
STRUCTURE SITE INSPECTION IN MATERIALS
MANAGEMENT AND SAFETY, AND
CONTINUATION OF STATIONING
DESCRIPTION OF THE Actual project site visit/inspection was conducted where the
ACTIVITY/PROJECT engineer demonstrated safety precautions that they practice
for the construction site, especially in the bank house. And
we continued the stationing from the last visit from 1+020 to
1+051
OBEJCTIVE/S To conduct project site visit/inspection for the safety of the
laborers, and the storage management. And continue the
stationing.
LOCATION Sinubong, Zamboanga City
LEARNING OUTCOMES I learned about maintaining safety and storage maintenance
in a construction site. Firstly, the bank house should always
contain a first aid kit, which is regularly maintained, and a fire
extinguisher, which also should be maintained for
emergency purposes. I also learned about keeping cement
in good condition for a long period of time. Keeping them in
a roofed area and putting a wooden board below them can
keep them from moisture, which keeps them in good
condition for long, and only stacking them 10 times, which is
the limit for them to last for 2 months in the inventory,

and stacking them more ruins it faster. I also learned how in
a construction setting, how they store their flammables,
which they store outside the bank house, and their metals
which include the sheet piles, gabion wires, and
reinforcement bars, which are stored in a dry place to avoid
these materials from rusting.

Q1.1 WHAT ARE YOUR TASKS THIS WEEK?
• To continue the stationing from last visit.
• To estimate the number of CHBs to be used in our assigned area, and compute its
mortar and plaster with a detailed computation in the number of bags of cement,
volume of sand.
• To conduct project site visit/inspection for the safety of the laborers in general and
their living space.
Q1.2 HOW DID YOU PREPARE FOR THESE TASKS?
I made some research for terms which are commonly used in construction sites,
brought note taking things such as pens and a notebook, organized my gallery for
documentation for this course and wore proper PPE which were luckily provided by
the firm.

Q1.3 WHAT WERE THE SKILLS THAT YOU LEARNED FROM THESE TASKS?
• I learned how to estimate economically using the terms or conditions we have in
Zamboanga City in terms of Trucks available.
• I learned how to use a fire extinguisher and how to act in an emergency especially
when in fire or gas related.
• I learned how to be consistent and critical in making samples for testing.
Q1.4 WHAT VALUES DID YOU LEARN FROM THESE TASKS?
I realized the importance of safety in civil engineering, especially in construction
management. From what we did and from attending safety meetings, I began to realize
the magnitude of the responsibility of being an engineer. One of the most important
things that I realized is that even something as innocuous as improper maintenance
of warehouses can be incredibly deadly on a construction site. This helped me realize
that there are a number of hidden dangers that engineers have to watch out for so that
they can design a safe working environment for all workers under them. Being an
engineer is not just about ensuring that a structure is designed and built correctly; it
also involves taking full responsibility for the safety and well-being of every person
working on the project. It requires foresight, attention to detail, and a commitment to
implementing safety protocols at every stage of the construction. I now realize that
technical expertise is accompanied by responsibility and a proactive mentality towards
risk and danger. This has made me appreciate the important role engineers play not
only in creating the built world but also in safeguarding the lives of those who bring
these buildings into existence.
Q1.5 WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS OF THESE TASKS IN YOUR FUTURE WORK?
The tasks I accomplished had an important effect on my understanding in being
a civil engineer. After the conducting the stationing and site inspection helped me
improve my accuracy and understanding of quality control and material knowledge,
which is vital in offering quality projects with accuracy. Quantifying the quantity of
CHBs and calculating mortar and plaster material quantities improved my planning
and material management, which are vital in economical and efficient construction.
Above all, site visits with focus on laborer health and housing conditions gave me an
appreciation that engineering is not technical work alone but also the well-being of all
stakeholders. The activities maintained the technical accuracy versus human
responsibility that forms effective engineering and management.
