Speech For A Farewell Speech
Good evening everyone. My name is Quinn Stewart, and it is my honor to be speaking here as
your President for the Scarborough High School Class of 2017. Before I move on with my
speech, there are a few people that I would like to acknowledge. First, the staff members who
poured their constant hours, dedication, and passion into making sure that we all ended up here
today. Your persistence in our education made sure that whether on the couch or the classroom,
that we all became better people over the last four years. Next, I would like to thank my parents.
Your continued emotional and financial support over these last eighteen years have been
astonishing, and I know that I would not be where I am today without your love, compassion, and
motivation. Finally, I would like to thank all of you: the Class of 2017. You all have made sure
that we aren t deepening the divisions of the past, but rather building a stronger future; one where
we aren t judged by what we look like, what we believe in or who we say I love you to, but rather by
how we interact and treat those around us. For all of that, I say thank you. Before I get rolling, I
want to warn all of you ahead of time: I know that everyone s exhausted from baccalaureate and
senior trip, but this is really an audience participation kind of speech. You see, I wrote 4 pages of
material, but about half of it just says pause for laughter and please clap , so I m really counting on
all of you here. (Pause) Now would have been
The Ecosystem and Energy Sources
Scientist and researchers are finding new ways to help the world become more efficient, while
saving the eco system and preserving the earth. The use of energy is an essential part of our day
to day lives from heating, petroleum and electricity. In the same token we depend on energy to get
through the day, the use of energy has increased along with the growing population and produced
harmful effects. Finding new ways to preserve this treasure has been a topic of concern and
finding new ways to make energy. Forest Biomass as replacement of fossil fuels Fossil Fuels have
been a point of concern among environmentalist due to its harmful effects on the environment. The
potential for alternative energy has been thoroughly studied concerning the use of forest biomass.
Replacing fuels with biomass could reduce our foreign dependence on petroleum and minimize
CO2 emissions. When considering the benefits forest biomass can provide a domestic energy
resource, create local jobs and provide financial incentives to forest owners Studies have shown that
biomass supply ranging from 4.2 15.1 million metric tons/yr used in the most efficient current
technology, forest biomass energy would constitute 1.4 5.5% of the entire region s current energy
consumption . The region s size, population and energy consumption would determine the greater or
lesser benefit, which would be received by the use of biomass. The use of biomass would also
create jobs around the world, due to the fact that it
Arrhythmias
An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat. The muscle either beats too quickly (called a tachycardia)
or too slowly (bradycardia). When the disorder is mild, it usually poses few problems. When it is
severe, it can be fatal.
Arrhythmias are categorized based on whether they affect the atria (two top chambers) or ventricles
(two bottom chambers), and whether they quicken or slow the patient s heartbeat. These
circumstances occur due to a disruption in the heart s electrical system. Normally, electrical impulses
spread across the chambers in a uniform pattern, causing them to contract. Each impulse generates a
single heartbeat. An arrhythmia interrupts these impulses, causing a change in the heart s rhythm.
In this article, we ll provide an overview of the main types of cardiac arrhythmias. ... Show more

This form of arrhythmia is known simply as a premature beat. They are referred to as premature
atrial contractions (PACs) when they affect the atria, and premature ventricular contractions when
they affect the ventricles. In most cases, they cause no problems. Few patients even realize they
have them.
Methods Used To Treat Arrhythmias
A mild arrhythmia may require no treatment, though your doctor will want to monitor the condition
periodically to make sure it doesn t worsen. When treatment is given, it is usually in the form of
drugs, surgery, or one of many nonsurgical procedures. Medications include blood thinners (warfarin
or heparin) to prevent clotting, along with beta blockers and calcium channel blockers. These latter
two classes of medications are given to slow the patient s heart rhythm; they are often used to treat a
fib or v fib.
When an arrhythmia has been caused by an obstruction in the coronary arteries, a coronary artery
bypass graft may be done to restore blood flow. With a fib, surgeons may also recommend an
operation called the maze procedure, which reroutes the heart s electrical impulses along a defined
The Theory On Rainbow Formation And The Mechanics Of Them...
Rainbows and the mechanics of them have been studied since ancient times. Greek philosophers had
some understanding of the role of refraction, scientists in the 13th century produced theories on
rainbow formation, and in the 17th century, Rene Descartes sketched out the conditions required to
observe a rainbow(Douma).
There are two key aspects that affect a rainbow, and these include the altitude of the sun and the
size of the raindrops. The colors of the rainbow are because of two basic facts:
Sunlight is made up of the whole range of colors that the eye can detect. The range of sunlight
colors, when combined, looks white to the eye. This property of sunlight was first demonstrated by
Sir Isaac Newton in 1666.
Light of different colors is refracted by different amounts when it passes from one medium (air, for
example) into another (water or glass, for example) (University Corporation for Atmospheric
Research).
Determining whether or not the wavelengths will go through the raindrops or reflect depends on the
angle that the light falls on the backside of the raindrop. Each rain droplet has a function in the
formation of the rainbow. Sunlight enters the rain droplet at a specific angle and the rain droplet
separates the white light into many different colors. This angle is a fixed measurement between your
eye and the sun. What color that is refracted is dependent on the critical angle, the angle the sunlight
strikes the back of the rain droplet (Mahlen). Red
Emily Dickinson s Poem
In Emily Dickinson s poem #340, or also known as I felt a funeral in my brain, there is a theme of
change that can be derived from the imagery presented by the poet. The poem is voiced from the
perspective of the deceased who describes their funeral as heard through the casket. The choice to
utilize a funeralas a backdrop to this poem is intriguing given that there could be many other ways to
depict a personal change. Even though other poetic styles like Romanticism and transcendentalism
exists in this era, Dickinsonchooses to this ominous subject medium. Dickinson s choice of setting
for this poem could be indicative of her surroundings, namely the death riddled Civil War era.
Whether this poem represents a positive change or a negative change, is left up to the interpretation
of the reader. One certainty is that Dickinson takes the reader into a story of transformation. Upon
further examination, I would like to explore why I perceive this poem to be a metamorphosis for a
positive change that emerges from a cocoon of the macabre.
In the beginning, Dickinson immediately takes the reader into the funeral as heard by a dead soul
from inside their own casket. In some ways, this could represent the death of old ways which give
way to the new. The mourners are figments of sorrow that are saying goodbye to the old shell that
once housed previous thinking processes. Furthermore in the poem 340, the author mentions that
Sense breaking through (Dickinson 1667), this could
Inflammatory Bowel Disorder Essay
Overall Scientific premise: Inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD) affects an estimated 1 1.3 million
people in the US alone, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Although immune intolerance in the gut is considered one of the factors driving disease
progression, the origins of IBD remain unknown. Enteric infections play a major role and could
potentially be an underlying cause of IBD (PMID:15256979). Staphylococcus aureus, an ESKAPE
pathogen, one of the major causes of foodborne enteric infections. Nevertheless, there is a
considerable knowledge gap as to how S. aureus can cause dysregulation and inflammation at enteric
mucosal surfaces that could lead to IBD. Previous studies along these lines led to the... Show more

To address this issue, we will be using NARSA (Nebraska Transposon Mutant library) library
consisting of single transposon insertion mutants covering almost 90% of S. aureus USA 300
genome. We will use a translational reporter line of C. elegans, in which HLH 30 has a GFP tag to
monitor nuclear accumulation. Identification of the S. aureus genes involved in HLH 30 activation
will allow us to pinpoint the PAMP/DAMP which is recognized by the host. Achieving this aim will
allow us to manipulate this conserved innate signaling pathway and further our fundamental
understanding of how the host detects pathogen.
Scientific Premise for Specific Aim 2 Identification of the acetylcholine receptors in immune cells
and intestinal epithelial cells involved in the activation of TFEB. A recent screen in C. elegans to
determine the receptor involved in the detection of a pathogenic signal activating HLH 30 led to
the identification of two G protein linked acetylcholine receptors (GARs) GAR 2 and GAR 3.
GAR 2 and GAR 3 are homologous to muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs). RNA i
experiments in C. elegans showed that GAR 2 and GAR 3 expressed in the intestine are critical in
activating HLH 30. From this observation, we hypothesized that TFEB activation in mammals could
also involve acetylcholine receptors AChRs. Acetylcholine suppresses the immune system by limiting
the production of pro inflammatory cytokines according to previous studies.
Advertising Strategies Essay
Advertising Strategies
When an advertiser places one of their advertisements into a newspaper, they want their
advertisement to appeal to the readers of that particular magazine. They could have the exact same
message, but considering their audience, they could make it more effective if they use a different
strategy to market their product. This is very common for advertising strategies to change when the
content of the magazine changes. You can relate the way that the magazine producers choose their
ads by when Steve Craig says that program producers and schedulers must consider the target
audience needs of their clients (162). The types of advertisements are driven by the content of the
magazine. Sports Illustrated provides a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the top of that half of the page, the words The longer you wait are there. On the other side of
the advertisement, there is a professional fisherman standing in a professional fishing boat which
is sponsored by Evan Williams. He is also wearing a jacket that has the Evan Williams logo across
the front. He is clearly is more special then the average Joe seen on the left side of the
advertisement. In order for the professional fisherman to look better, that half of the ad is printed in
color to give it a more lively feeling. At the bottom of the picture, the words the better it gets. are
there creating a suggestion to the reader that if you have the patience, things will always become
better. To tie the picture back into a promotional opportunity for Evan Williams, there is a picture
of a bottle of Evan Williams whiskey in between the two pictures claiming that it is Extra Aged . In
the bottom right hand corner of the advertisement, it also says Evan Williams. Aged longer to taste
smoother. The ad is trying to sell the fact that because the fisherman waited a long time, he turned
out to become a professional, and since the whiskey they make was aged, it also became better, just
like the fisherman. The reason that they chose to connect the fisherman to the quality of their
whiskey was because they anticipated a lot of males that read Sports Illustrated to be sports minded
and be just like that average Joe fisherman. Evan
