The Human Relations Theory (The Hawthorne Effect)

The Hawthorne Studies (or experiments) were conducted from 1927 to 1932 at the Western Electric
Hawthorne Works in Chicago, where Harvard Business School professor Elton Mayo examined
productivity and work conditions.

Elton Mayo started these experiments by examining the physical and environmental influences of the
workplace (e.g. brightness of lights, humidity) and later, moved into the psychological aspects (e.g.
breaks, group pressure, working hours, managerial leadership) and their impact on employee
motivation as it applies to productivity.

The Hawthorne Effect can be summarized as Employees are more productive because the
employees know they are being studied. Elton Mayo s experiments showed an increase in worker
productivity was produced by the psychological stimulus of being singled out, involved, and made to

overview of Mexica culture. Then it will examine the specific technological advantages held by
the Spanish and the effects that these advantages had on the battlefield. After this it will examine
the impact that the spread of smallpox and other diseases had upon the Mexica s ability to defend
themselves. Finally this essay will demonstrate the size and impact of indigenous allies on the

Morrison (2007) believed that it is important for social workers to exhibit emotional intelligence
because it sets them apart from others that lacks the trait; displaying a level of unconscious
competence, expertise and effortlessness (p3). He talked about four different domains that the EI
model measures. According to the article, there are two interpersonal and two intrapersonal
domains. The interpersonal domain gives a measure of self awareness and self management skills,

Abstract In multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, spatial demultiplexing at the receiver is
a motivational task. Thus, several detection techniques are investigated in existing literature. There
is a tradeoff between computational complexity and optimal performance in many detection
techniques. The ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC) with minimum mean square
error (MMSE) is used to improve the error performance. However, maximum likelihood (ML)
detection gives optimal performance at the higher complexity level whereas MMSE OSIC
detection is less complex. Therefore, MMSE OSIC2 detection is suggested as a solution. In this
paper, spatial multiplexed (SM) MIMO systems are considered to evaluate error performance with
different detection techniques such as MMSE OSIC, ML and MMSE OSIC2 in a composite fading
i.e. Weibull gamma (WG) fading environment. In WG distribution, Weibull and gamma distribution
represent multipath and shadowing effects respectively. It is shown by simulation results that the
MMSE OSIC2 detection technique gives the improved symbol error performance (SER) which is
closely likely ML performance
