All Members of the Family Matters
Family, a close weaved group of people inseparable because of links of shared history, love,
caring, and understanding which links them to one another and ignites a since of belonging and
togetherness. Members of a family are like the patches of a patchwork quilt. Like the patches of
the quilt, family members are of different sizes, shapes, and colors but although different they all
play a part in creating a masterpiece which bond is only as strong as the weakest link. It s these
differences in sizes, shapes, and colors which makes patchwork quiltso unique and amazing to the
public today. Family works the same way you have different types of people with completely
different mindsets, hobbies, and careers but family is special. Family has a linkage between them, a
certain bond that may not be visible by eye but the bond is so strong that no matter what happens or
how far apart they are, they will always be linked back to the other members of the family. But what
happens when you put another angle to the common institution of family? What happens when that
person in your family who shares this linkage is a pet? Does this change the definition of family just
because the subject at hand is something other than human?
My substantive definition of family helps me too be able to accept pets as members of the family.
Under the definition of law, family is the formal social recognition and affirmation of a bond as
family, particularly in the form of marriage and adoption. Pets are
Advantages Of Concrete
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 CONCRETE:
Concrete is a composite material formed by combination of cement, fine aggregates, coarse
aggregate and water together in a suitable proportion. This mix form easily workable paste known as
plastic wet or green concrete. After mixing and placing the concrete in position the cement and water
undergoes hardening, the cement paste in this way bind the aggregate like hard mass, which is
called concrete. Now a days concrete is used most commonly as a building material because of its
high strength, durability and low cost. Concrete is the only building material which gains strength in
presence of water while other decayed. Due to property of concrete it is widely used in modern
engineering construction.
For economical preparation of the high quality concrete mixes, it is essential to study the design of
such concrete mixes by various methods and then adopt one which is most economical and durable.

Concrete has strength.

1.5 DEMERITS OF CONCRETE:

Concrete has low tensile strength therefore, it cracks under tensile load. But this can remove by
reinforcement or prestressing.
Concrete expands and contract due to temperature variation. To overcome this difficulty expansion
joint are provided.
Concrete is not totally impervious. But it can be made impervious by using waterproofing agents or
rich mix.

1.2 Metakaolin
Concrete is an artificial material in which the aggregates are bonded together by the cement when
mixed with water. With the advancement of technology and increased field of application of
concrete and mortars, the strength, workability, durability and other characteristics of the ordinary
concrete can be made suitable for any situation. For this, definite proportions of cement, water, fine
aggregate, coarse aggregate, mineral admixtures and chemical admixtures are
Alan Turing s War
Alan Turing was a renowned modern mathematician and cryptologist who became known as the
father of computer science and eventually became a gay rights icon for his persecution due to his
homosexuality. He was also extremely important in winning the second world war, developing the
world s first computer to combat and break the German message encrypting Enigma machine. In
fact, Winston Churchill, one of the most prominent figures of World War II, let alone the 20th
century, said that Turing made the single biggest contribution to Allied victory in the war against
Nazi Germany and its Axis partners. Without Alan Turing, the Allies wouldn t be able to know the
Nazi plans and could very likely have lost the war. Turing, too, developed the idea of... Show more

He began a relationship with a man named Arnold Murray, having him over to his apartment on
frequent occasions. Murray later helped an accomplice break into Turing s house and steal many
valuable, amongst them, although thought to be unknown to the thieves, highly classified
documents. Turing reported the crime and admitted to having a sexual relationship with Murray.
At the time, homosexuality was illegal in the UK and so Turing was charged with gross
indecency. He was then given the choice of being imprisoned or chemically castrated with
estrogen hormone injections, choosing the latter. Turing s conviction also meant his security
clearance was revoked and he was barred from his cryptographic consultancy for the British
government. The treatments subjected him to years of pain and mental relapses from the
hormonal imbalance, acting like a daily form of chemical torture. His once amazing brilliance
slowly began to wither as he became psychologically traumatized from the drugs. He began to
shake frequently as if he had Parkinson s disease and at one point stabbed himself in his leg with a
knife. Finally, on June 8th, 1954, Turing s cleaner found him dead. It appeared that Turing
committed suicide and poisoned himself using a cyanide laced apple. In 1966, the annual Turing
Award was established and given each year to a person for technical contributions to the computing
community. It is generally viewed as important as the Nobel Prize. And, in September
Top Tensioned Risers ( Ttrs ) For Dry Tree Production...
2.1.4 Top tensioned Risers (TTRs)
Top tensioned risers (TTRs) are risers used for dry tree production facilities like Spars and tension
leg platforms (TLPs) as conduits (either for production, drilling, injection or export) between the
floating production units (FPU) and subsea systems. A top tensioned riser extends substantially
vertically from a platform hull to the sea bottom. The riser includes length adjustment at its upper
end and is detachably connected to an anchor pile at its lower end. (Jordan et al., 2006). TTRs are
tensioned at the top to resist environmental loading. The tensions needed for the production risers are
generally lower than those for the drilling risers (Chakrabarti, 2005).

2.2 VORTEX INDUCED VIBRATION ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Von K´arm´an observed that the stability of vortex street is integrally linked to its
configuration(Von K´arm´an, 1912). His analysis has since been followed by studies of vortices, in
the presence of bluff bodies which causes separation of flow.(Horváth et al., 2000) Fig. 1. K´arm´an
Vortex Street (Dyke, 1982. )

When a bluff body is placed in a flowing fluid, the body will cause flow separation which will
result in vortex shedding. (Bearman, 1998).This separation changes the flow field from steady flow
to unsteady flow with an increase of the Reynolds number. Properties of the wake produced behind
a bluff body depend on three main factors, which when combined into a single relationship known
as Reynolds number Re has an important influence on the characteristics of vortex induced
vibration. These properties include: free stream velocity Uf, geometry of the structure acting as an
obstacle in flow, and kinematic viscosity of the fluid v. For a rigid cylinder, whose characteristic
dimension in the direction of flow is its external diameter D, Reynolds number Re: 1
Reynolds number enables the comparison of similar systems under different fluid and flow
properties and structure size. This helps during the presentation of results during
Clifton Suspension Bridge
Kaylie Griffin and I chose to build the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The Clifton Suspension Bridge
is a suspension bridge located in Bristol, United Kingdom. A suspension bridge is a type of bridge
which the deck is supported by cables that hang vertically off larger cables or hangers. Suspension
bridges typically have two towers and are anchored to abutments at their [Link] towers help to
support much of the weight that crosses the bridges deck, such as cars and people. The towers also
dissipate the load directly into the planet Earth. These features of a suspension bridge are why they
are strong therefore, one of the more popular designs for a bridge. When building our popsicle
bridge, we had to add x shaped joints and brackets to help our... Show more content on

After completing this simulation, our bridge only had one string (cable line) untied from the
wire (hanger). Nothing else was damaged therefore, everything was intact. During this test, our
bridge was exposed to torsion because it was twisting and being thrown around in the simulator.
Our modifications helped my bridge withstand the earthquake and hold a numerous amount of
weight. Our bridge was very strong and one of the top performers in the class although, it could
have had more trusses and modifications to make it even stronger. Our bridge weighed ⅞ lb. and
it held 250 lb. therefore, it held 286 lb. for every 1 lb. As said before, we could have added more
joints and trusses to improve our bridge s performance. Compared to the rest of the White Group,
our bridge was the second strongest bridge. Our bridge also performed very similar to everyone
else s in the earthquake simulator. The heaviest bridge was the Brooklyn Bridge, which also
happened to be the strongest. The tallest bridge was the Ben Franklin Bridge, coming in at 13
inches. In the future, I think walking bridges could be made from glass, able to be looking down
on a river below you. Yes, I think a computer can help fix faults and help for better design and
performance of bridges. I learned many things from this bridge project, some being, how to work as
a team, patience, how bridges work, and different things that help architects
Analysis Of On Liberty
On Liberty is an essay composed by a man named J.S. Mill who talks about the different types of
liberty given to individuals. The novel in divided up into five chapter stating different liberties or
responsibilities that makes someone a responsible self. There is no real definition of what could be
considered a responsible self but all the duties one has is what composes this personinto what Mill
believes one should be. These responsibilities are first to oneself, to others, and finally to society as
a whole.
The responsibilities to oneself are vast and many depending on what the individual wants to
consider as responsibilities. The person must be in tune with all that is happening inside his
world so he may grow. Individuality, is a huge part of a person because it shapes not only his
personality but his life. It is the duty to himself for once he reaches maturity he is to use what he
has learned and interpret it to his beliefs. He learns about traditions and customs from others but
may interpret differently, not suitable to him, or do not educate or develop him (55 56). He must
develop a strong character with his own impulses and desires that has been created and fixed by his
culture. The individual must make sure to take in to account what he prefers before what others
want him to do (58). Conformity is also another duty to oneself, since it is what makes him stand out
among the rest. A person can only have the chance of becoming himself again, is when his eyes
The Field Of Adult Development

SEIDER During my first year as a high school English teacher, I got into the habit each Friday
afternoon of sitting in the bleachers and grading papers while the players on the freshman football
team squared off against their counterparts from nearby towns. I had been assigned four classes of
rambunctious freshmen, and several of my most squirrelly students were football players. I hoped
that demonstrating my interest in their gridiron pursuits might make them a bit easier to manage in
the classroom. My presence at their games unquestionably helped on the management front, but a

Why Do Political Machines Have Corrupt Power
For years now, business owners and political organizations have abused their power and position to
corrupt the democratic process by using the American people for their own political and economic
agenda. Millionaire business owners have been exploiting their position to make more money while
also taking away their workers right to vote. This kind of exploitation exists across the country; in
California, the Southern Pacific Railroad company has used their power to overprice their services
and in New York, an large ice company has doubled the price of ice for their consumers. The
situation becomes even more fraudulent when one discovers that many companies, including these
two, have been paying governmentrepresentatives to avoid legal trouble and forcing their workers
to vote to keep these corrupt officials in office ( Progressive Era... ; The Case for Tammany... )....

Just like corporate business owners, party bosses use their position of power to get as much money
as possible by overtaxing people, cooperating with corrupt businesses, and working with criminal
organizations ( Political Machines ). Even when a political machine seemingly does something
good, they always expect votes and money in return. A perfect example of this greed is the
Tammany Hall machine, which helped Irish immigrants in New York so that they could have more
voters on their side ( The Case For Tammany... ). America today is overrun with greedy, corrupt
business owners and politicians that are willing to undermine the constitutional rights of the
American people to make more money; the only way to end this is by bringing a more Progressive
government that recognizes the immoral acts of these
The Crucifixion Analysis
The artwork The Crucifixion by Jaime Cirera represents spiritual authority and religion. It is a
Christian iconography. According to Humanistic Tradition, Christian signs and symbols linked the
visible to the invisible world...since in Christian art the symbolic significance of a representation is
often more important than its literal meaning (Fiero, 204). Christian iconography represents a
religious belief. Indeed, Christian iconography is the symbol that shows religious spirit of Christian
in Medieval Europe (McMillan, Middle Age). It is a Holy image representing a religious character,
JesusChrist, an image of God. He is the symbol of martyrdom, of blood sacrificed, and of physical
and mental suffering. The artist depicts the image of Christ
Botanical Explanation of Stevia
Stevia
Botanical Name: Stevia rebaudiana
Family Name: Asteriaceae
2n chromosome: 22 (X=11)

Botanical explanation:

Stevia is member of Asteriaceae family which has 200 genus. Its height up to 1 m tall. It is a
perennial herbaceous plant having extensive root system. Its leaves are sessile, 3 4 cm in length,
elongate lanceolate or spatulate shaped with blunt tipped lamina, serrate tip. The upper surface of
the leaf is granular. Its stem is woody and weak at the bottom. The flowers are pentamerous, small
and whitish. They are surrounded by an involucre of epicalyx. The capitula are loose, irregular and
sympodial Cymes. The fruit is a five ridged spindle shaped achene.

Stevia will grow well on moist and well drained soil. Plants under cultivation can reach up to 1 m
or more in height. It is cultivated as a perennial shrubby plant in subtropical regions including some
states of the USA. The plant is primarily originated from the northern regions of South America. It
is also cultivated in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Brazil, and Malaysia. Stevia must be
cultivated as an annual plant in high latitude areas, where longer days are favorable for leaf yield
and stevioside contents. Seeds are contained in slender achene, about 3 mm long.
