The internet has made our life easier, faster and cheaper. This technology has
made it possible to communicate with people from different parts of the world in a
very short time. Nowadays, it is easy to share our ideas with other people by
using applications that require internet connection such as email, social media
and chatting applications.
The internet is a great source of information. Internet users can find information
and statistics about any topic they are interested in. In addition, there are many
online services that are available on the internet. For
example, we can easily buy air tickets, clothes, household items and spare parts .
Moreover, people can watch movies, listen to music, play games and study
online. It is easy to make new friends with common interests on social networks
such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Nowadays, about 2.1 billion people in
the world have access to these social media applications. However, the internet
has some disadvantages. First of all, users need to be careful when using the
internet because some websites provide false information. In addition, the use of
the internet can become a type of addiction. The sometimes spend a long time
chatting and playing online games. They pay less attention to their work, families
and health. Therefore, it is very important to learn how to use the internet wisely.

1- I like doing some indoor activities such as playing chess and cooking. However, my
favorite hobby is playing basketball with my friends.
2- Ali and I usually spend holidays visiting different countries. Last summer holiday we
decided to visit Salalah. It was an amazing experience.

They have unique features that help them survive in sever heat.
4- Rainforests are amazing environments that have tall trees and high amounts of rainfall.

Listening 2
Last year, Salim and I travelled to Japan. We travelled there to buy some cars spare parts.
It was a long and a boring flight. Luckily, on the same flight, we met a Japanese teacher
who was good at English. He was friendly and cooperative. He gave us enough information
about the most famous places in Japan. Although the airport was big, it looked somehow
empty. We walked out and called a taxi. The taxi driver asked for two hundred and fifty US
dollars to take us to the hotel. It was too expensive so we agreed to pay him two hundred
dollars. After having a rest for one hour in our small miserable room, we decided to go out
for dinner. We found a restaurant next to the hotel. We went inside and ordered some food.
We checked the food menu. At last, we ate fish and chips. Unfortunately, the food was
awful and very spicy. We didn't eat much. We walked back to the hotel. However, it
seemed that this bad food caused us stomachache. We planned to stay in Japan for two
weeks but at the end, we stayed there for 10 days only. It was really the most horrible
journey in my life.

all the time. I actually like shopping for many reasons.

First, shopping is my favorite hobby. I like to spend time in the big

supermarket near my home. I usually go there every Sunday. I go shopping with
my children Amal and Noor. They like shopping, just like me. Although, they
spend a lot of money in chocolate and playing. However, I don't mind that since
it makes them happy. Amal likes buying ice-cream a lot when we go shopping,

Another reason why I like shopping is to meet my friends. Every weekend, I go

Moreover, we like shopping because of the good cafes and restaurants at the

The Omani dates festival was one of the most successful events this year. It was

production. It was held to introduce the different types of dates in Oman and
give farmers the chance to present their products. There were about 70 kinds of
dates and most of them are Omanis. You can buy other products beside dates.
There were also about 15 other products made from dates like molasses which is
a type of honey, ma'mool which is a type of biscuit and halwa. The next festival
will be on October 2023.

The world’s oceans are becoming more and more polluted. I believe that humans are
responsible for this pollution. Many sea animals are badly affected by ocean pollution.
Therefore, it is our duty to clean up the oceans around the world for future generation.
To begin, most of the pollution in our ocean starts from the land. People throw rubbish on
the beaches, and it ends up in the oceans. Also, factories throw their waste into the
water.

In fact, more than 70% of the earth’s surfaces covered with ocean water, so it will be
hard not to be affected by pollution. For example, animals may get trapped in plastic
bags in the water such as dolphins or turtles. Lots of sea animals die because they eat
these plastic bags.

Sadly, not only animals are victims of the pollution, people themselves are also affected
by ocean pollution. They eat seafood that may contain chemicals and heavy metals. What
can we do about this problem?

In my opinion, everyone needs to help keep beaches and oceans clean. No one shouldn’t
throw his trash and rubbish in the sea. Environment organizations and charities work
hard to inform people about the dangers of sea pollution. For example, they encourage
people and shops to use recyclable and reusable plastic bags. This will help save money
and protect endangered sea animals.

Plastic bags are one of the most dangerous things to our environment. These bags cause
many problems to the environment and to the health of people. Firstly, plastic bags pollute
the environment. Forests, rivers, lakes and oceans are polluted all over the world. Wind
carries these bags everywhere. We are destroying our own planet and most people don’t
even know the harmful effects of these bags. Secondly, these bags kill our wildlife. They

In recent years, there is always an issue of buying things from large shops or big malls
than from small shops. In my opinion, I agree with the statement.

First, buying from big malls helps people to get cheaper items. Large shops always have
sale and discounts over the items which offer good price for the customers. For example,
I once went to look for a T.V and compared the prices of small shops and large shops.
After comparing the prices, I found out that it was about 50% less in large shops. Also,
large shops offer coupons which attract people, so you can save more money.

Moreover, shopping in large shops is easier and more convenient. For example, there is
always large areas for parking cars. Also, items are well organized inside the shop which
makes it easy to reach and find whatever you want. Besides that, large shops have
different types of items. Last time I was looking for a type of cheese and I only found it
in Carrefour.

Finally, I’m not asking people to turn back to small shops and stop buying from there.
However, I still believe that shopping in larger

shops is better than small shops.

LISTENING 2

You are going to hear a story about Ahmads’ family trip to Ras Al-had.
Listen and for each item, write a short answer (not more than FOUR WORDS).

I went with my family to a picnic in Ras Al-had. We arrived there at about 10

in the morning. The beach was already crowded with many people. However,

we managed to get a place under a large tree, and we put our picnic basket

there. Everyone in the family was busy setting up tents, unpacking food and

preparing lunch at the same time. Later, my brother (Ali) invited us for a

boat ride. Then, we got into the boat and began our activity. While we were

enjoying boat sailing, Ali lost his balance and fell into the water. All of my

family members were frightened and shouted “help, help”. We were trying to

call some people who were sailing around us. Fortunately, a good swimmer

from another boat saw the incident and rescued Ali. My parents were so

grateful and thanked the brave man for saving my brother’s life. Finally, the

sun went down, and we went back to the beach all safe.
