Epistemology
My Own Epistemology: In the Making

Am I living in an illusion? What will happen to me after I die? Is there really such thing as a God? I
have struggled with these three questions throughout my entire life, and I was very intrigued to
discover that all of these questions were addressed throughout the many different readings in Libs
201: Exploring the Unknown. Author Chris Frith dissects the idea that the mental world is an
illusion created by the brain in his book Making Up The Mind. Antony Flew, a former atheist, argues
that there is such thing as a God or an agent and backs up his theory using science. Emile Durkheim
writes about the foundation of religious thought in primitive people thousands of years ago, and
addresses the ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Whether it is Emile Durkheim discussing the foundation of religious thought in primitive people
thousands of years ago, or Michael Shermer writing about how the human brain constructs beliefs
and reinforces them as truths, I am constantly absorbing brilliant new ideas and perspectives
regarding the foundation of philosophical and religious thought in humans. I have come to the
conclusion that my epistemology is still in the making, and my sponge of a brain has not yet
absorbed enough experience and knowledge for me to feel confident in my own thoughts and
beliefs at this point in my life. I believe that with every new book or article that I read, I feel my
mind expanding more and more, and maybe one day I will finally be able to say There really is a
God out there, and I know this because... . There is also a chance that I ll discover that I am more
like Shermer and I will come to the conclusion that our brain simply creates the idea of a God due
to the process of patternicity, the tendency to find meaningful patterns in both meaningful and
meaningless data. For now, all I can do is retain as many different concepts and philosophies as I can
in order to bring me one step closer to discovering my own
Master At Arms Essay
Master at Arms For a few weeks, I have been researching what it would be like to have a job in the
Navy as a Master at Arms. The Master at Arms, or MA, is the law enforcement department of the
US Navy, serving as military police since their founding. They guard the fleets of the United States
Navy, stop terrorism in the seas, and protect the fleets of the US Navy, and serve as a good starting
point for anyone with an interest in a future of Law Enforcement. Educational requirements are not
as strict they could be. To join, the only educational requirement is a high school diploma.
However, you will have to graduate A school. A school is the Navy s after Basic Training
educational training so you can succeed at the job you chose. A school... Show more content on

In Basic Training, you will be tested on your physical abilities, all within the length of time Basic
Training takes. Joining while out of shape, too skinny, or having little to no athletic ability will
make it an even more difficult Basic Training than before. It s best that you prepare before signing
up. During the Navy, you have multiple options if you want to have a career in Law Enforcement.
The best option, in my opinion, would be becoming a police officer or a Federal Agent. It is
sometimes hard to find a job in Law Enforcement for people with military experience, as more and
more departments are denying people with that kind of experience. However, you will usually find
people who will welcome you with open arms if you have experience. There are a few drawbacks as
well as benefits to being in the MA. Your benefits will be the ever changing salary. Though it s not
a lot at first, (when in Basic Training, which would make your rank E1, 1417 dollars monthly) your
salary increases heavily with each promotion. E2 goes up 200 dollars, 1717, and E3, 1800 dollars. It
also increases with how many years of service. What I ve listed is absolute minimum you can be
paid. The drawbacks would be the relatively low salary, as well as working days, nights, weekends,
and holidays doing nothing but guarding a gate for 8 hours. However, if you specialize or get
promoted a few
Minecraft
Minecraft is a three dimensional environmental game that allows users to create an infinite
amount of objects within the video game by using only rough grid like blocks to construct them.
The game was first released for personal computers in the spring of 2009 and later for mobile
devices in the summer of 2011. Since its release it has had more than 100 million copies sold in all
platforms. This gameis offered to all ages and genders, but their main focus is young boys mainly
since boys particularly enjoy playing video gameswhich include zombies, swords, and building
things. Minecraft s popularity has increased throughout the years that it is no longer available for

Political Correctness In Sports
Political correctness is a style of language that is meant to ensure that offensive language is not
meant to be used in the community. The results of political correctness is to extend into every
aspect of human lives for that is where the power of language is when people using it. Here are a
few examples of ways that language can be used as an unfair influence. In the world of sports,
there have been incidents where conflict has occurred through the use of the homophobic slur. In
England, a survey showed that by the signing in of an openly gay player, there was a possibility of
a loss of 8% of football fans would stop supporting them. This is a sign of the kind of abuse placed
on gay rights. Failure to follow to the changing times in society has placed the LGBT community
under high limitations in the sports field. In this situation, most of the individuals would prefer
keeping their sexual preferences to themselves fearing marginalization from the community (Emma
Kavanagh).... Show more content on [Link] ...
However, this has often ended up with disastrous results. In 1990, Justin Fashanu was the first
football player in the English Premier League to come out as a gay football player. He experienced
a huge torture from the fans who felt that his sexual orientation would have an effect on his
performance on the field. Justin faced insults from both the players and fans and at the young age
of thirty seven, he tragically took his own life after submitting to depression (Emma Kavanagh).
With the changing time, there has been an acceptance of gay individuals in the field of sports. We
need to understand that they too are human like us. They share the same values to love and have a
family, and as a result homophobic tendencies need to
Darkness and Decay Essay example
(p.141 p.143) How does Eugenides capture the atmosphere of darkness and decay in this extract and
why is this significant in the novel as a whole?
In the successful novel the virgin suicides, Jeffrey Eugenide s uses a range of devices to
conceptualize what s going on inside the Lisbon s house and capture the sense of isolation and how
he personifies their house and the environment surrounding it. This causes the reader to actually feel
the atmosphere of darkness and picture the decay, and the light flickering out, inside the Lisbon s
house and within the girl s themselves.
The author s choice of narrator was most interesting considering the content of the novel. It is
narrated by collective memories of a group of boys who were hopelessly ... Show more content on

The neighborhood boys are shocked by this revelation because for them, the physical world, and
physical sex, is what is most important. To us it shows, Lux s knowledge of sex implies a
concomitant knowledge of death and darkness.
Pathetic fallacy is used to represent the inner feelings of the girls so that their whole
neighborhood can fell their suffering The sky grew darker, and the light abandoned the daytime .
This could also be interpreted as a cry for help from these girls by using the weather as a sign to
those in the outside world. It does also represent that the girls are losing faith, probably in their
religion and the holy and faint light inside them is dying out as it is being consumed by the
darkness growing inside them and is being feed with grief and silent pain that the girls are going
through. Eugenide s uses semantic field to again use nature to portray the Lisbon girls emotions
the trees in the yard dropped, a cloud always hovered over the Lisbon s house, steamed clouds and I
think he does this because he shows the reader that the girls are rarely physically seen so they are
instead described through an alternative source which is nature.
We see images of imprisonment and the girls abandoned and left in isolation, that the boys can t
even make out their physical features All we could see were the girls incarcerated shadows thus
showing the girls have no life in them but are
Shipwreck Research Paper
Shipwreck from the late 18th century
The Breakdown
It s not every day that you find a piece of history. Either in your back yard or cleaning out the attic
or other such ways. In fact, most often, the finding of the artifacts are usually done by accident.
Why by accident? Well, the odds of you finding something purposefully are slim as it is. Even
carefully planned expeditions can turn up nothing for years before anything is found.
Plus, if you do find something you don t really think much of it and might end up damaging the
item. Or not know it s really a piece of history and not junk.
The Odds of Finding a Shipwreck
Which is why it is rather lucky and accidental that a team of researchers just doing sea exploration
with a sonar found something unusual in the waters of North Carolina. The find came about on the

to be a trade ship. The find, as with every find in science, is a reminder to the scientists, science
community, and the public there continue to be things that we don t know about our world and what

Monoamines Research Paper
Monoamines, which are a small molecule class of neurotransmitters, that help control different

effects males and females differently. Norepinephrine, another catecholamine, is upregulated in
females only, while dopamine is upregulated in males only.

In the book, The Psychodynamics of Gender and Gender Role, they state that gender differences in
phenomena to helplessness are well established . Little girls are more likely than boys are to
attribute achievement failure to low ability, also to rate poorly their competence in novel or
traditionally male tasks and even to have lower expectations for future success. Studies suggest that
in girls more than boys are more likely react helplessly to challenging tasks.
With depression, females are more likely to get it more than males and other disorders in general,
although this differences are not really shown until middle childhood or adolescence. In many
studies, students have found that girls are more exposed to helplessness, which it is not surprising.
The ones who appear to be especially exposed to this are bright girls. In some

Classification of Beer
What s more refreshing on a hot summer day than a nice cold beer? Or how about drinking a nice
cold one with some buddies after work at a local bar, sound nice doesn t it? Beer has been around for
many years and will probably be around for many more. A beer is any variety of alcoholic
beverages produced by the fermentation of starchy material derived from grains or other plant
sources. The production of beerand some other alcoholic beverages is often called brewing. Most
every culture has there own tradition and the own take on beer, thus producing many different styles
and variations.
Simply put, a beer style is a label given to a beer that describes its overall character and often times
its origin. It s a name badge that has ... Show more content on [Link] ...
During the secondary stage, the lager clears and mellows. The cooler conditions also inhibit the
natural production of esters and other byproducts, resulting in a crisper tasting beer. Modern
methods of producing lager were pioneered by Gabriel Sedlmayr the Younger, who perfected dark
brown lagers at the Spaten Brewery in Bavaria, and Anton Dreher, who began brewing a lager,
probably of amber red color, in Vienna in 1840 1841. With modern improved fermentation control,
most lager breweries use only short periods of cold storage, typically 1 3 weeks. Most of today s
lager is based on the Pilsner style, pioneered in 1842 in the town of Plzeò, in the Czech Republic.
The modern Pilsner lager is light in colour and high in carbonation, with a mild hop flavour and an
alcohol content of 3 6% by volume. The Budweiser brand of beer is a typical example of a pilsner.
The five main sub catagories of lagers are: pilsner, bock, helles, dunkel and Oktoberfest. Pilsners
defining elements were the extremely soft water that was pumped locally and the unique aromatic
hops that were also grown nearby. Pilsners are malty sweet, and well hopped. Caramel flavors are
often noticed accompanied by medium to high bitterness. Pilsners have a good amount of
carbonation and are clean and crisp. Bock beer is a hearty beer with high alcohol content. Contrary
to the rumor, bock beer is not what s cleaned out of the
The Practice For Surgical Procedures Performed At...
Group Description The group is made up of fourteen new nurses, four nurses with one year of
experience, and the group is led by one of the nursing educators at Adventist Health Medical Center
in Hanford. The primary purpose of these meetings is to provide new nurses with ongoing support
during the transition period from student to nurse. Although this is the primary purpose of these
groups, group members use this time to discuss policies and procedures that need to be updated
and or clarified, discuss situations on the units that continue to lead to negative patient outcomes,
discuss most recent evidence based practices for surgical procedures performed at the facility, and
to share facility updates. The nursing educator uses a facilitative leadership style when conducting
these meetings. A person who uses a facilitative leadership style creates a culture where people
feel comfortable contributing ideas and suggestions, listen to multiple point of views (even those
that they do not agree with), emphasize key information, build bridges between people, create an
atmosphere where people can share information, and allow people to come to resolutions to
problems by working together (Brome, 2006). Most issues we are able to find a solution to as a
group, but issues that are out of our control, such as changes to policies, she takes with her to discuss
with department and facility managers.

Importance Of A Turning Point Essay
Can turning points in a single person s life change a whole society? A turning point can be
described as a life changing event that teaches so much about themselves or the world around them.
People who endured a life changing event can respond positively or negatively. In the
autobiography I Never Had It Made , by Jackie Robinson, the memoir, Warriors don t cry , by Melba
Pattillo Beals, and the article, by The father of Chinese Aviation , by Rebecca maskell, each of the
individuals faced a turning point. Jackie Robinson, Melba pattillo Beals, Feng Ru faced life
changing experiences that altered both their lives and their countries.

Jackie Robinson was chosen to integrate the major leagues during a time in history when blacks
were not a part of the major leagues. On his path to become the first black player in the major
leagues, he had to endure racism expressed by insults, physical harm, and pressure from his own
teammates, other baseball owners, and fans. In paragraph two, Robinson states, I was proud to be

Music Can Change The World By Dana Da Silva
Music changes so often that it is hard to know what artists are going to come out with next. Music
changes to the artist and to society. Society is very different now than it was even ten years ago. I
agree and disagree with statements made in the article Music can change the world by Dana Da
Silva. People and societies change over time and musichas to change with them.
I agree that music has come along way from what it used to be in the era of jazz and rock and roll.
Silva stated that South Africa s Miriam Makeba and Nigeria s Fela Kuti have largely been
exchanged for party hard, live the rich life lyrics. Most artists now relate more to partying, drugs,
and the rich lifestyles and that is how today s society is. Comparing music from
