A Sorrowful Woman Theme
The short story, A Sorrowful Woman is a story with a very accurate title. This story is about a
woman who grows tired of being a wife and a mother and in a sense, abandons her husband and son
by staying locked up in the bedroom while they are home. She rarely comes out and has little
interaction with her son. She has some good days where she will spend time with the son but it is
often ended because the son does something she does not like. The main theme of this short story is
companionship as salvation which is demonstrated throughout the whole story primarily through the
husbands continuous effort to help his wifein any way that he can. Not only is salvation through
companionship shown through the companionship of the husband and... Show more content on

Along with the use of repetition in the story, Godwin s use of characterization helps further develop
the overall theme of the story as well. Godwin presents several examples of companionship which
ends up saving the mother in the end. For example, as far as one can interpret from the information
given to us in this story, the son accepts the fact that he can t always get to see his mother and be
with her. One can make this assumption because the husband would tell the wife that he and the boy
understood her current situation. The son not giving up on his mother and understanding and
respecting his mother s wishes when it came to her not wanting to see him is important for the
woman because she does things throughout the story that lets the reader know that she still loves
the boy and the father. At the very end of the story boy says, She s tired from doing all our things
again which shows the reader that the son is aware that the mother has not been the mother she
once was to him. (Godwin, 42). The companionship between the father and son could be seen as
salvation because since the mother could not take care of the son as a mother should, the father had
to step into a large role and care for the son himself before
Edgar Allen Poe s Annabel Lee
Edgar Allen Poe is known for writing incredible, but oftentimes disturbing poems that center
around various themes and topics. His poem Annabel Lee discusses the affection he has for a
particular woman and goes on to discuss certain events at the ocean where she inevitably dies. Poe
changes the mood of the poem quite effectively as he begins by happily discussing his affection,
and ending by describing the death of the woman he loves and expressing his sadness for her death.
He is able to do this by using symbolism throughout the poem, in addition to alliteration and vivid
imagery that appeals to his readers. Though Poe makes his affection and love for Annabel Leevery
clear throughout the poem, he never gives a description of the woman or offers any details about
her other than her name. This leads to the conclusion that she is symbolic rather than a literal
person who Poe has found. She serves as a symbol of perfect love and beauty that is impossible to
find, let alone keep. In addition to describing the setting as a kingdom by the sea, Poe details
Annabel as a maiden that is well known which alludes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem s conclusion, Poe uses the alliteration of sepulchre and sea , in addition to side of the
sea (Poe, 495). Though it is a minor effort on Poe s part, the use of alliteration has a lasting effect
on his readers in addition to adding to the illustration of the dark sea by creating a hissing sound
that alludes to evilness. In addition, Poe uses great imagery throughout Annabel Lee such as his
illustrating the demons and seraphs or the moon and the stars. His use of alliteration and imagery
create a better picture for the reader instead of simply writing words for them to read. His use of
refrains also creates this effect that is similar to a song which makes the poem even more
Analyzing O Brien s Speaking Of Courage
Style I think Style was written to show people s different way to grieve. The girl was to surround
herself with happiness as well as denial. I fined the denial when she covers her ears as they bring
the bodies outside of the house, not wanting to hear the truth. I think it also showed that in harsh
times you need to find the happiness. I was shocked, but happy with Dobbins response. I think his
action was meant to portray that there is morals and respect in this war. Speaking of Courage
Speaking of Courage is about Bowker and his experience when he went back home as well as why
he didn t get his silver medal. I think O Brien wrote this chapter to show the soldiers that go through
the motions when they get back. The motions I feel were represented
Bohemian Rhapsody Rhetorical Devices
Queen s Bohemian Rhapsody , written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, is an elaborate and intriguing
best selling song from 1975. There is much speculation about what this song could be about, but
there is a general understanding that no matter it is about, the song is used to express Mercury s
feelings. Throughout the song, there are various shifts in tone and music style, which are very
important in demonstrating Mercury s emotions toward himself and others. The song is symbolic of
Mercury s emotional struggles, and through various rhetorical strategies he conveys his confused and
fragile emotions to the listeners. The introduction of the song causes the listeners to feel sympathy
and sadness through Mercury s ashamed and melancholy tone.... Show more content on

Like the first section, Mercury uses rhetorical questions, but in this section, they serve a very
different purpose. The rhetorical questions help to emphasize Mercury s anger by taking the form
of accusations: So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me
and leave me to die? (Mercury) The music combined with the accusations help to cause the listeners
to feel some of Mercury s anger at those who have hurt him and put him in to his current emotional
state. This section goes on to beg those who hurt him to stop and leave him alone. By repeating a few
words, Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here (Mercury) he enforces the idea that he
urgently needs to leave the relationship that is hurting him and causing him all this pain. Overall, the
section is energetic and strong, and through the use of repetition and rhetorical questions, brings the
listeners similar feelings of ire and desperation due to hurtful
Foundations Of Reading Assessment And Intervention Research
Foundations of Reading Assessment and Intervention Research Paper In order for teachers to
facilitate effective reading instruction, they must determine what the students academic reading
levels are. This research based paper will introduce many assessment tools that teachers can use to
evaluate students baseline reading stages in order to appropriately guide interventions and
instruction. Individual students needs can be evaluated through initial and continuing reading
assessments. Teachers can do this by using both formal and informal assessments to collect and
record data to monitor student s progress. Assessment Assessing young children as they move
through the steps of their literacy development will help teachers plan for their lessons with a greater
outcome for success. Using both formal and informal assessments they can establish the child s
strengths and weaknesses as well as monitor their progress and growth. Assessments can be
formative or summative depending on when the assessment takes place. Formative assessments can
be administered regularly throughout the school year and assist teachers in monitoring the students
learning progress. Where as summative assessments measure what the students have learned at the
end of any selected event. According to Copple Bredekamp, (2009) Assessment focuses on children s
progress towards goals that are developmentally and educationally significant (p. 22). Additionally,
assessments can provide the teacher with the
The Palace Of Knossos By King Minos
Part A: The Palace of Knossos is the most complex structure existing from the ancient Minoan
Civilization on the island of Crete. It was built in the Minoan political center of Knossos by King
Minos around 1900 BC. The palace is an extremely intricate building standing five stories with
large, beautiful paintings on its walls known as frescos; it even had indoor plumbing. It is apparent
that only the most important people in Minoan society lived in the palace because of its grandeur
and beauty. The Palace of Knossosis important to history because the palace gives us a window into
Minoan culture. We can deduce from the Palace of Knossos that the Minoan Civilizationwas both
complex and prosperous. The beautiful murals of the Palace of... Show more content on

Linear B writing emerged in Knossos after Linear A writing but before the fall of the Palace of
Knossos. We can then deduce that people writing in Linear B (Mycenaeans) conquered those
writing in Linear A (Minoans), or at the very least, Minoans allowed the Linear B writers into its
political center as a peaceful accommodation. Nonetheless, finding the Linear B tablets at the
Palace of Knossos is important because it lets us know that at some point Mycenaeans had lived
on the Island of Crete. Finally, discovering Linear B tablets allows us to see how the Greek
language evolved because the tablets show Greek language its very earliest form. Linear A is the
writing system of the Minoans that lived on Crete. Like its child system Linear B, Linear A
writing is a system where one symbol represents one syllable in language. The reason Linear A
writing was developed by the Minoans is because the Minoans wanted to keep record of what was
bartered. Essentially, the Minoans developed a writing system so they could keep receipts. Sadly,
the language that Linear A displayed is still unknown to us today. The Mycenaeans really admired
the culture of the Minoans. As a result, the Mycenaeans based their writing system off of the
Minoans Linear A writing. Without Linear A, we would not have been able to see the first Greek
writings in Linear B. Essentially, without Linear A the first Greek writings would not have been
recorded in Linear B. Homer spoke and wrote in
Pros And Cons Of Banning The Headscarf
Should the headscarf be banned? Recently there has been a push towards banning religious
symbolism from the media, especially the hijab. The hijab is a veil that Muslim women wear
around their heads to cover their hair and their bosoms; it symbolizes faith and modesty. Many
people fear or in some cases feel bad for people who wear the headscarf including niqabs and
burqas because they are uneducated and/or ignorant of Islamic teachings which lead them to create
inaccurate assumptions and accusations on the matter. Most may believe banning the headscarf will
benefit the community in ways that they believe will make people feel more comfortable and they
also believe that it will benefit the women who wear the hijab because of the belief that Muslim
women who wear the headscarf are oppressed, however, banning the headscarf would lead to the
contradiction of Canadian values, discrimination, and go against the religious beliefs of Muslims.
The prohibition of the headscarf would go against Canadian values. When Steven Harper was Prime
Minister, he wanted to ban the niqab, a cloth that covers the face, for citizens who work for the
government and Around 82 percent of Canadians [supported] the niqab ban, ( Trudeau s Gutsy Post
Victory Speech Shatters Stereotypes ). Having most of the population supporting this decision is
relatively disappointing knowing it contradicts the significance of Canadian society, since Canada is
acknowledged for its multiculturalism and diversity.
Ricardo De Ungria Civil Liberties Poem
Civil liberty: an irrevocable, incontestable right afforded to all, built on two contrasting ideas. To
be liberated is to be free to think, feel, do, and say whatever one may please. To be civil,
meanwhile, as is required of all of society, is to be limited by the bounds of courtesy and propriety.
This such irony is explored through the illustration of the unspoken tension between races in Ricardo
de Ungria s poem, Civil Liberties.

A Proposal for the International Elimination of Nuclear...
The Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) set out a model of the Nuclear Weapons Convention
(NWC) in 1997. The model underwent revision and reforms in 2007. The text puts a proposal that
international law completely eliminates and bans the use of nuclear weapons. The proposal has
general support from the international system. Over the years, security at the international level has
faced opposition when it comes to the disarmament of nuclear weapons. Discussions that are
concerned with the risks of nuclear weapons and the options for disarmament have been featured in
several international law conferences with the increase in the back up for a world free of nuclear
weapons.

Shortly afterwards, there was a comprehensive report that called for a world free of nuclear
weapons by the Canberra commission. The abolition of nuclear weapons was supported by former
presidents, military officers, among others (Jurgen, Wolfgang, Kalinowski., April, 2005). Due to
increased public pressure, the NPT recognized nuclear powers stopped their programs for nuclear
testing. The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) was finalized in 1996, but has not been
implemented due to the lack of ratification by the necessary states.
From that time onwards, the disarmament conference in Geneva has not had progress. However,
there have been discussions about the reduction in production of materials for nuclear weapons.
Since 1998, the disarmament conditions became worse. There have been several nuclear tests by
North Korea, Pakistan, and India, the re introduction of defense missiles, space weapons, nuclear
tactics, the 2001 terrorist attacks and the war on terror. There was abandonment of the foes for
negotiation on disarmament as well as the Anti Ballistic Missile Treaty (ABMT) agreements to
control arms.
Other regimes for control were under threat like the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and the
Outer Space Treaty. Even the 2002 Moscow
Main Cause Of Global Warming
Discovering the Main Cause of Global Warming Upon researching the causes of Global warming, it
was discovered that humans are the main cause of global warming which contributes to the rising
average global temperatures. The theory of global warming was originated in the late 1850 s by a
scientist named John Tyndall. Tyndall discovered that some gases block radiation, and trap heat on
the earth s surface. He then suggested that the accumulation of these gases to a high level, causes
climate change. Current research shows that global warmingis caused by the high levels of carbon
dioxidereleased into the atmosphere by humans. Smoke produced by factories, vehicular exhaust,
and the burning of fossil fuels such as coal in power plants are the primary sources of carbon
dioxide. When carbon dioxide is released into the Earth s atmosphere, it steadily accumulates
because it cannot escape into space. Humans are the main cause of Global Warming. Global
warming is also known as the greenhouse effect, which means an increase in the temperature of
earth s atmosphere. Since about the mid 1800s, the worldwide average temperature has been going
up about 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (1.4°F), or 0.8 degrees Celsius (0.8°C), much of it after 1970
During that upward trend , many cold and warm periods have come and gone (Colligan
12) . Most of the light energy from the sun is emitted in wavelengths shorter than 4,000 nanometers
(.000004 meters). The heat energy released from the earth,
How To Write An Essay On The Catcher In The Rye
The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger is a critically acclaimed and highly spoke of book. The
book Catcher in the Rye is narrated by a sixteen year old boy named Holden Caulfield . This teen
adolescent is not like any other boy you will ever find, Holden is a sixteen year old teen going
through the most difficult times of adolescence and is discovering that no one understands him.
Holden is too complex for our understanding he speaks in his own vernacular as if not one thing or
person can understand him. The story takes place mostly in New York after Holden flunks out of
his prep school, Pencey Prep . Holden travels to New York for three days before going back to his
family. In New York Holden makes many harrowing experiences that... Show more content on

The book shows how the misunderstanding of one struggling teen adolescent can affect their
very outlook on life. To many people Holden is negative, rude, depressed, etc. But once you try to
put yourself in his shoes you realize that Holden is seeing how the world really is and he is
showing that yes there are negative parts in life but there are also positive parts in life as well and
how he knows why things happen for a reason from his brother Allie dying of Leukemia to seeing
his loving kid sister Phoebe. To me the book has it s rough spots and it s great spots, I like how
the book starts out in first person when Holden says, I m not going to tell you my whole
goddamn biography or anything. this gives you a quick first look at Holden s true character and
how he speaks his mind with everyone. The book also has some bad parts such as when Holden
starts to digress like when he mentions his brother Allie, his sister Phoebe, or his brother D. B. it
starts to bore me when he goes into extraordinary detail about something that doesn t need to be
covered that much. Overall I really enjoyed the book and the story
Cannibalism In The Road
Destruction, Rubble, Cannibalism the apocalypse is here. In this world, survival is the first
thought as survivors battle weather, cannibals, and thieves. The Road, written by Cormac
McCarthy, is about a father and son surviving in this post apocalyptic world. The duo are on a
journey south to avoid the cold as the seasons are changing. This novel has broken the norms for
the dystopian genre as it brought the imagery of religion and hope, as most dystopian books are all
about how the world is doomed. In The Road, the pair are faced with choices to survive: let
Darwinism take place or settle with death. They chose to outsmart Darwinism by skill, lowering self
morals, and looking to God. Darwinism is the theory that only the strongest survive
Kong Qui s Anatributions Of Confucius
Kong Qui, better known as Confucius, was thought to be China s greatest thinker. Born to an
aristocratic family in the state of Lu in northern China, Confucius was both learned and ambitious
(Staryer). He was a wise philosopher, teacher, and political figure who influenced the lives of
many. Confucius is known for his popular aphorisms and for his models of social interaction
(Biography). His great teachings were preserved in a book called, Analectsof Confucius. The title of
the book literally translates to discussion over words. The Analects has been one of the most widely
read and studied books in China for the last 2,000 years. It continues to have a substantial influence
on Chinese thoughts and values today ( Confucius ). Confucius wanted mutual respect among
people, and he believed that people could get along if they followed rules of good behavior.
Confucius envisioned a government that was based on virtueand goodness, not laws or punishment.
Although Confucius envisioned that a government should be based upon these things, Confucius
also taught to be strict and precise, and he taught that people should be laborious in their works.
When Tsze lu asked him about the government, Confucius replied by stating that one should work
hard at what they do and to not tire of it. When Chung kung asked him about the government,
Confucius says, Employ first the services of your various officers, pardon small faults, and raise to
office men of virtue and talents. (The
