EDCI 101: FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION C. F. 3.0 45 HOURS

Course Purpose
This course will help the learner conceptualize the moral dynamics of family and social
interactions at each stage of the family life cycle and equip them with information, skills, attitudes,
experiences, or resources intended to strengthen, improve or enrich their family experience.

Learning outcomes
Learners are expected to be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of topical issues concerning the family such as
developmental tasks, marriage, domestic conflict, divorce, human reproduction and family
planning.
2. Discuss factors accounting for changes in the traditional family.
3. Discuss moral and socio-economic factors contributing to emerging trends in the family
life.

Course objectives
By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:
1. Explain the structure and types and roles of families in general.
2. Explain changes taking place within the family and discuss factors accounting for the
changes.
3. Discuss developmental tasks.
4. Explain human reproduction and complications of pregnancy.
5. Explain the impact of domestic violence, conflict and divorce on family life.
6. Define population education and appreciate the role of family planning.
7. Discuss perceptions and policies of population education.
