Symbolism In Battle Royal, By Ralph Ellison
I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I could
answer (Ellison 527). Battle Royal , by Ralph Ellison, follows a story told by a man that the
reader only knows as invisible . He believes that he is equal to everyone else until he is invited to
Battle Royal to deliver a speech that was given the previous day for his graduation. At Battle
Royal, he experiences multiple trials throughout the story. Everyone leaves he finally gets to tell
his speech to the important people in the room. Symbolism is used by an author to give the story
a deeper meaning. In Foster s book, How To Read Literature Like a Professor, he has a chapter
called He s Blind For a Reason, You Know (209 214). In this chapter, Foster explains how blindness
is used to show that the character is blind to what is going on around him. He also says, if you
want your audience to know something important about your character (or the work at large),
introduce it early (213). In Battle Royal the narrator is at one point blindfolded. The blindfold is a
symbolof blindness. Ellison introduced this symbol very first, just as Foster said an author would
do to get the reader s attention. The so called invisible man says, Looking up front, I saw attendants
in white jackets rolling the portable ring away and placing a small square rug in the... Show more

The symbols used in Battle Royal causes the reader to have to dig deeper. Through this, the reader
can understand all that African Americans have gone through and what Ellison feels about the
hardships African Americans have been through. Reading only with the readers eyes will barely
scratch the surface of the point the author is trying to portray. The symbols Ralph Ellison uses takes
more than one read to understand the message portrayed in Battle Royal . Without symbols the
reader can not fully understand the author s
The United States Should Build A Wall
Whether or not the United States should build a wall to secure the border around Mexico is a
controversial topic. The controversy is mainly over the cost and true purpose of the wall. Many
people wonder if there is a need for the wall to be built, while others are pushing for the massive
wall to be built. Many do not believe the wallwould stop the immigrants from illegally crossing at
all. Human migration routes are like rivers: If they hit an obstacle, the flow finds a way around it
(Chappell). Although the idea of building a wall is controversial, many would agree that the idea is
expensive, a waste of time, and ridiculous.
The wall would be a very expensive project for the government to pursue. Originally, during Trump s

The treaties between the United States and Mexico that prohibit the blockage of rivers across the
border would be roadblocks in President s Trump s plan (Aguilera). Another one would be the
Native American reservations along the borders. It would be a waste of time for the government
to have the wall built only to have gaps within the wall due to restrictions. Trump would be able
to get around these restrictions by convincing Congress to pass a bill that would take the land
away from the Native Americans, but that would only start chaos. Most of the land currently
without a border fence cannot withstand the construction of a wall because of the geography by
which it is surrounded. Due to this, there will be gaps within the wall through which immigrants
would be able to enter. The wall is viewed as a ridiculous idea because it realistically will not
fulfill the desires President Trump has. The wall will not only cost billions of dollars, but will
also not keep out all of the illegal immigrants. It can even keep in the ones that are in the United
States today as illegal. The illegals currently in the country would be turned away at the idea of
crossing back over the border to see their families after they learn that a more secure border is
being put in place (Falkenberg). The people who want to cross over to the United States legally have
a difficult time acquiring their citizenship
How Did The Yalta Conference Influence The Korean War
The influence of the Yalta Conference, the Korean War, the Communist revolution in China, and
McCarthyism on American Soviet relations in the decade following the Second World War, were
surreal and dramatic. After the second World War a lot had happened that could have either
destroyed nations or build up those nations that all of this had happened too. The nations that were
involved in the Yalta Conference were Great Britain, The United States, and the Soviet Union( USSR
). During this Yalta Conference three men, one from each, Great Britain, The UNited States, and The
Soviet Union came together in a social conference and came up with an idea that will end up
separating Germany. Prime Minister Winston Churchill, American president Franklin D. Roosevelt,
and the leader of the Soviet Union Joseph Stalin had meeting where they had agreed to Germany s
unquestionable surrender. They also agreed to set up Germany s... Show more content on

The Korean war had started after the Second World War split Korea into north Korea (
Communist half) and South Korea ( basically run by the Americans). The War had started also
because north korea just couldn t stay on their side of the 38th Parallel line and basically attacked
the southern Korea. south Korea contacted with the US forces and asked for extra backup. And
the commander of the United states forces was indeed MaCarthur himself . General Douglas
Macarthur had crushed the northern Koreans and had recaptured the capital of South Korea.
Because the north was out of luck and getting themselves kicked by south Korea, the Chinese felt
the need to send their forces over to help back up north korea. Mainly the chinese had done this
because they were afraid of what the Americans would do during this war to North korea. The
korean war was then ended after a bunch of world conflict in Korea halves with a simple peace
treaty putting them back into their
Carolina Rebellion Research Paper
Have you seen those weird music festival T shirts that people wear and wonder what someone
could possibly want to wear that for? While they re sometimes meant to catch attention of people
so they may want to look up the festival, it also serves as a reminder for many amazing memories
for the two or three day event. For a long time now musichas changed people s lives in many ways.
It has brought people to fame and lifted many out of depressions. But, to those who haven t
experienced a festival, or even live music in general, you have been missing out an amazing social
experience like no other. From the kings of festivals like Woodstock or Coachella to the lesser
known ones like Rock on the Range (Hard rock/metal based) and Day for Night (variety) there are
hundreds to pick from. One of my favorites is Carolina Rebellion which takes place right in this state.

Earlier in the day you will see some bands in which you may have never heard of, or even some you
honestly wouldn t even consider based on the genre they sing in. Live performances and always
pull you in and get you to become a fan of the band which alone has lead me to love many new
bands. As the night grows older you can see the bands that you ve been waiting all day to see. As for
Carolina Rebellion, it has had many artists from rock bands like Def Leppard to rap bands as
Cypress Hill and many more.
When you go to a fair you get fair food and the same applies to a festival. Carolina Rebellion has a
whole section dedicated to food called the Pig Out Village . I recently talked to a few people on
Carolina Rebellion s fan page on Facebook and some of the favorites they mentioned were the
turkey legs and classic Bar B Que. For me my favorite is the Macaroni and Cheese vendor Mac
Attack. The Buffalo Chicken Macaroni and Bacon Jalapeno Macaroni are both spicy, but so filling.
But, if you are a simple man, then burgers and fries are also
Abortion Of Abortion
Despite this readily available information, a number of arguments are still present and advocate
for the legalization and acceptance of abortion. One of the more frequent claims is that a fetus,
rather than its own being, is rather a potential being, or just a clump of cells. First of all, one of
the six classifications of life is, quite literally, to be a clump of cells . There is no clear empirical
evidence that points out the distinction between arbitrary sizes of these clumps. From the youngest
zygote, to the oldest senior citizen, all humans are clumps of cells. The second and more implicit
claim within the above statement, which would imply that a potential being cannot be a life, and is
instead comparable to a single egg or sperm cell, is similarly not based in objective truth. The egg
and sperm cells, before fertilization, are not genetically unique, but rather are products of the parent,
containing parent DNAuntil conception. It has already been stated that a fetus is a living human, but
if fetus is recognized as equivalent to an oocyte or spermatocyte, the entire value of human life
becomes both muddled in confusion and laughable. If a sex cell of a parent organism is
considered to be alive, why not consider a blood cell or a hair cell? They similarly share the same
qualities of any other living cell, but the distinction is found in the uniqueness of a fetus. A skinned
knee and a haircut both take away the living qualities of human DNA, but do so in a manner
Essay on Youth Culture
Essay on Youth Culture

The 60 s and 70 s saw the rise of youth culture. Youth culture can be seen as a particular pattern of
beliefs, values, symbols and activities that a group of young people are seen to share.

Along with the rise of youth culture came the theories developed on it. The theories developed in the
60 s were mainly functionalism. Functionalists believe that society or a social structure is like a
biological structure and that all social institutions function for the survival of society. As social
structures change by becoming more complex, social institutions change by becoming more
specialised. Functionalists, therefore, believe youth culture has a social function; they see it as young
people solving there shared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Functionalists like Eisenstadt explain social institutions in terms of social problems and cultural
solutions. The youth problem lies in young peoples marginal status, youth culture eases the resulting
anxieties and uncertainties. His argument is that in meeting young peoples needs, youth culture has
the general function of smoothing the transition from child to adult. He believes that the most
important function for its members was emotional and providing young people with a set of
relationships, (peer groups.) The most important point for Eisenstadt is not that some young people
become deviants but that even the most deviant of youths become normal adults. He saw youth
culture not as a political rebellion but as an essential problem solving social function.

Eisenstadts argument is a general argument. It refers to the transition that faces all young people in
industrial society but not all young people are the same. He didn t take into account that growing
up middle class is different to growing up working class and that growing up male is different to
growing up female. Also, he was explaining youth culture in a time of relative affluence and
optimism, growing up was not particularly problematic in the 1950 s.

In the 1970 s the strongly Marxist influenced CCCS related class to youth subcultures. They argued
that youth styles were a reflection of the economic system and its related class relations. They
claimed that
Aladdin Analysis
For our Youth The late comedian Ralphie May once satirically portrayed a Muslim as the new
boogie man, and that ... One of them stinky, unibrow S.O.B. will show up right behind you with a
big a** turbine, beard, genie bottle in one hand, magic carpet in the other, dynamite belt, last
thing you ll smell is couscous, camel hump, and diesel fuel, Boom! Then he blows you up, (I
reiterate, this was 100% satirical, and his morals did parallel with that of a progressive) during a
stand up bit where deconstructing racism was the central concept, and albeit May is no scholar by
any extent, his message is clear; the portrayal of the Middle Eastis one sided, that is, an image
created by the West, for the West. This portrayal sees no limit, and as one will see, goes as far as the
American film industry manipulating the youth in movies such as Aladdin. Aladdin is a cultural
production about a young man, Aladdin, who endures the malicious vizier, Jafar, while attempting to
win the heart of Princess Jasmine. In this work, I will discuss the orientalist portrayal, the source of
knowledge, the effects of American exceptionalism in Aladdin . This will be done by reviewing
the symbols in the film that represent the Middle East. In the film Aladdin, the portrayal of the
Middle East specifically India is that it is a ... far away place ... where they cut off your ear, if
they don t like your face. The producers were essentially attempting to create the image of a
barbaric society that lacked any good ethics or morals. This orientalist approach by the producers
to portray the Middle East, was on par with an extremely biased news source. For example, other
than cutting off your ear, there is a scene where Jasmine was nearly subject to the common
punishment of hand amputation. If one were to view another movie about a Disney princess a
similar case would be hard to find. Also, in the beginning of the film, the thief Gazeem, tells Jafar
that he had to slit a few throats to get him what he needed. As if it were normal, Jafar has no
response. This scene, along with many others, is an attempt to convey the barbaric society that the
producers want. Now, the goal of this analysis is not to critique, but it should be
Antonin Artaud Art And Art
Antonin Artaud and the theatre he created
There is in every madman a misunderstood genius whose idea, shining in his head, frightened people,
and for whom delirium was the only solution to the strangulation that life had prepared for him.
Antonin Artaud is not known for his many famous and interesting quotes. He was known for his
experiments with Theatre and the creations of a sub Surrealist theatre known as Theatre of Cruelty.
The above quote, though, embodies who Artaud was; A genius, a madman, and in a league of his
own. Artaud s life was not one that most would call normal and this helped shape his ideas and
works as well as his contribution to dramatic theory. Though his beginnings and ideas are not those
of the norm que what is normal comment Artaud is one man who has shaped the theatre and its art
irreparably and will be idealized for a long time to come. Antonin Artaud was born September 4,
1896, under the full name Antonin Marie Joseph Artaud. Originally born in Marseille, France, he
was introduced to mysticism at a young age through his Levantine Greek heritage. His knowledge
and interest in mysticism shows up prevalently in the majority of his work (http:/
/www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/36724/Antonin Artaud). His heritage is not the only part of
Antonin Artaud s life that shaped his work, nor was it the start of his dramatic writing.

turns around the Predator s two blade, erratic pitch pusher propeller. The rear mounted propeller
