Extraterrestrial Life Search
For thousands of years, Astronomers and scientists have been constantly exploring space for

God has sent his most intellectual creation humans to earth and denies any possibility of intelligent

Leonardo da Vinci was born when his mother was not married, his parents were Florentine notary
Ser Piero and a peasant with the name of Caterina. He was brought up by his father and
stepmother. When he was five he moved to his father s estate which was close to Vinci, the
Tuscan town where he lived with his uncle and grandparents. He did not have a great education.
He only new the basics, which were reading, writing, and math instruction. Even though he did
not have a good education his artistic abilities were astonishing. When he was only fourteen, he
began learning with the noted artist Andrea el Verrocchio. He learned a numerous number of
things including technical skills like; metalworking, leather arts, carpentry, drawing, painting,
and even sculpting. One of his earliest pieces was a pen and ink sketch of a landscape in the Arno
valley, which was done in 1473. When he was twenty he was qualified for a membership to be a
master artist and made his own workshop. He still worked with his teacher for an added five years.
He ended up leaving Verrocchio s studio in 1478n because he was offered his first independent
commission for an altar piece for a chapel in Florence s Palazzo Vecchio. He was asked to make two
more commissions, but he left the city and abandoned both which he never completed.
Leonardo da Vinci was known as a painter, sculptor, architect, inventor, military engineer, and
Cough Case Study Essay
Cough
Heather Colome
University of South Florida

Cough
CASE ONE: Mrs. L. Windermere is a 73 year old woman under your care for more than a decade.
She has no chronic medical conditions and comes in once a year in the spring just to catch up. In
this visit her only complaint is a cough. It started a month or two ago following a cold. She hadn t
been very ill just some congestion and rhinorrhea. After those symptoms mostly resolved, she
developed this cough. She asks, Is there something you can give me for this cough?
1. How is cough categorized? Is this a chronic cough?
According to Pratter, Brightling, Boulet, and Irwin, (2006), based on duration, cough can be divided
into three categories: acute, lasting 3 ... Show more content on [Link] ...
She doesn t recall any sick contacts, but her husband is a minister, and she mingles with members of
his congregation three to four days a week. On physical exam her oral pharynx is slightly
erythematous but there is no cobblestoning and her nasal turbinates are neither pale nor inflamed.
She has no lymphadenopathy, and her lungs sound clear without any wheezing or crackles.
3. Do you want an X ray? How are you going to treat this cough?
Yes I would order a chest x ray due to the duration of her cough, the fact that it is post infectious,
her age, and to evaluate for pneumonia and masses. Due to the duration of the cough and the fact
that her cough is becoming productive with yellow sputum, I would tell the patient she probably
started out with a viral bronchitis that now could be transitioning into a bacterial bronchitis and/or
Pertussis and I would prescribe an antibiotic that will cover both: Azithromycin 500mg PO day 1,
then 250mg PO Daily X 4 days. I would instruct her to buy over the counter mucinex take as
directed on box, and drink plenty of fluids. If the cough does not improve in 3 weeks have her
follow up.
CASE ONE CONTINUED: She returns in three weeks. Her chest X ray was normal. Her symptoms
are unchanged.
4. Now what? What is Upper Airway Cough Syndrome?
Now further evaluation is needed and a change in treatment. According to Tofts, P.H., Oliveira, E.,
and Ferrer, G. (2011), UACS (formerly known as postnasal drip) is due to chronic upper

Ancient Rome was a turning point in history. It is considered by many to be one of the most
important and influential societies to ever dominate Earth. At Rome s peak in the history of
civilization, one could not go anywhere from Spain to Saudi Arabia without being influenced in
some way or another by the empire. Over the twelve centuries of Rome s existence, it produced
hundreds upon thousands of architects, musicians, playwrights, actors, sculptures and many other
artists of all kinds. Arguably though, Rome is most known for its stunning architecture, classic
sculptures and beautiful paintings. The architecture of ancient Rome was born out of necessity rather
than for ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Over the years however, it was used for an even larger variety of purposes such as a fortress, quarry,
workshops, housing and even a Christian shrine. It stood as the shining point of the Roman Empire.
Any visitors from foreign lands would come into the city and see the massive structure and be
awed. It was four stories high, had access to running water, was surrounded by artificial lakes,
gardens and pavilions and could seat comfortably a large portion of Rome s ever growing
population. The building still stands today even after the devastating natural disasters, such as
earthquakes and the Great Fire of Rome, and stone robbers. Roman architecture is something to
be awed by. It combined ingenuity with a great usage of tools and materials. This begs the
question of how in the world did the Romans build such large and incredible structures so long
ago? The answer is they discovered a building material so impressive it is still used today, and
every day, in construction sites all over the world; concrete. It is hard to find a historically accurate
date in which concrete was discovered, but scholars believe it was put into use around the middle of
the first century. It was used throughout the entire Roman Empire for all of their building and
construction needs and concrete was the answer. It was hydraulic setting cement and shared many of
the same qualities as the modern Portland cement. The cement consisted of volcanic dusts,
Essay On Dystopian Novels
Dystopian novels are some of my favorite types of books. Books such The Hunger Games,
Divergent, and The Fifth Wave, as well as The Maze Runner, are all dystopian themed stories. The
Fearless, written by Emma Pass, is one of those stories. I love dystopian books, there is something
incredibly fascinating about a world where we are no longer in control. Usually, it is the government
that is corrupt and the cause of the problems within the novel, like the Capitol in The Hunger Games
and Jeanine in Divergent. Here, though, the government is not actually the bad guy.

The Fearless is about a virus, in a way. It was created by a group of scientists looking to eradicate
the effects of PTSD in soldiers while they were still in combat situations. As usual, it started off
innocent enough but it soon got out of control. Not only did this vaccine take away ... Show more

Cassie, who now goes by Cass, breaks the number one rule of Hope Island to go after her brother.
The laws of Hope state that if anyone is kidnapped by the fearless, they are considered dead unless
they return on their own volition and unaltered. Cass, of course, goes after her brother with the help
of who I immediately deemed the lover interest. His name is Myo, and he is wonderful.

I love the fact that this book is told from three points of view, Cass, Myo, and Sol. Sol is Cassie s
childhood friend, his father is the one that created Hope Island. I also really liked the fact that
romance was not the central plot of this book. Don t get me wrong, I love romance in books, but it
would have hindered the story here. It is still there, it just isn t the main plot. The whole point of
the book is Cassie and Myo teaming up to rescue their respective siblings. Of course, attraction
blooms along the way but it takes forever for it to boil over into anything

How Did The Hippie Movement Influence Teens
If you remember the sixties, then you really weren t there Robbin Williams. The 1960 s Hippie
Movement, one of the most prevalent topics of the decade, is one of the hardest occurrences to
recall for psychedelic drug abusers. As a result of increased counterculture activity, mind altering
drug abuse spiked in popularity over the decade. Formerly a therapeutic drug, LSD (lysergic acid
diethylamide) later affected the mentality of everyday people worldwide. The HippieMovement of
the 1960 s influenced recreational drug use among American teenagers. Public Hippie Movement
demonstrations motivated American youth to start engaging in the drug culture. Open community
LSD trials, dubbed acid tests , first surfaced in La Honda, California, where... Show more content on

The Hippie movement essentially began because of the actions of just a few individuals. In
1964, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters started the movement through cross country travels in
the Furthur bus (Hoskyns). The bus bold colors and psychedelic exterior constantly drew the
attention of news and media outlets as they followed Kesey s travels (Hoskyns). At this time, it
was practically unheard of to freely travel across the country on a whim. The increased attention
towards the Merry Pranksters had cast a spell on American youth. Not only did Kesey affect the
mindset of American teenagers, but also former Harvard psychology professor, Dr. Timothy
Leary. In an interview with Playboy magazine, Dr. Leary talked about increasing LSD abuse.
Young adults typically agreed with Leary s belief that drug use was beneficial, whereas older
Americans scorned at his ideas (Leary). By claiming that drug culture trends were a
breakthrough...battle [that] is won , he spoke highly of LSD in order to gain attention and
popularity (Leary). Dr. Leary s reputable background makes his opinion and experience appear valid,
which compelled younger people. Pitching psychedelic drug use as both pleasurable and liberating
effectively convinced defiant American youth. Both Kesey and Leary managed to appeal directly to
the younger generation of Americans and to stimulate drug experimentation. By praising the teenage
demographic for their heightened sense of energy and openness, they were able to promote the use
of psychedelic
Domestic Violence and What It Takes to Break Free
It began before we were together. He raped me and I got pregnant. I was pregnant when the [real]
abuse started, [n]ot only physical, but mental, and sexual as well. The first time it happened he
seemed to feel really bad about it so I really thought he would never do it again! Then a few
months later he did it again and from there it was all the time! , reports Lilly, a prior victim of
domestic violence. Nevertheless, Lilly is not the only to have suffered from domestic violence. As a
matter of fact, according to The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, more than 1
in 3 women (35.6%) and more than 1 in four men (28.5%) in the United States have experienced
rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. (2010, pg. 2)
Many people find domestic violence difficult to understand because its usually portrayed as just
being physical abuse, in spite of common misunderstanding, domestic violence can be any form
of abuse committed by a person targeting someone else. However, what is rarely known is: to
what extent will these women go to in order to be free? Is it wrong to want to be free from a
reality that they can no longer handle? In some cases the definition of freedom does not mean to run
away or to file a restraining order against the partner committing the abuse; as a matter of fact,
sometimes the only way to find freedom is through murder. In such cases, women who have been
abused might develop Battered Woman
The Civil Rights Movement And The Federal Government...
I took another visit to the Library of Congress, located in Washington D.C. I went to James
Madison building. My purpose at the library was to research The Civil Rights Movement and the
Federal Government Records of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, Police Community
Relations in Urban Areas, 1954 1966 and obtain information from the Newspaper and Current
Periodical reading room. I was really disappointed that the librarian directed to me to ProQuest
periodical. There was no other access of information. When I enter the manuscript room, it was the
first time for me using microfilm and I was watch intensely by the staff when I was using the reel
machine. The microfilms are located in the Madison building. The records focused on Black
Americans, civil rights, Commission on civil Rights, police, race relations, racial discrimination, and
urban area. The records were generated to disclose the tense relationships between police
enforcement and the black communities they served in. This collection included reports on police
brutality, dishonest arrests, and police failure to act for protection, race relations, and police training
programs in cities including Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San
Francisco, St. Louis, and Baltimore. I focused on the city of Baltimore. Some of the materials were
written or received by Roy Littlejohn, he was the staff attorney for the Commission on Civil Rights.
Some of the other materials were issued by local
The Potential for Future Crop Loss Essay
The Potential for Future Crop Loss

On the subject of potential crop loss there are several variables, which influence drought and plant
disease resulting in a loss of crops.

The first variable is that of drought. Drought is a result of shifting weather patterns, which changes
the amount of precipitation an area receives. There are three major causes of drought, deficient and
unfavorably distributed precipitation, excess heat and warm winds (Nemanishen, 1998, p.35).
Historically the grasslands of North America have had a highly varied climate with years of
drought immediately followed by years of sufficient precipitation. For example, in the area of the
Palliser Triangle in the grasslands of Canada, wheat crop loss has been seen ... Show more content on

Krick identified twelve major North American weather patters which paved the way for long term
weather forecasts that are now used universally in farming and crop production (Nemanishen, 1998,
p.27). It is understood that migratory cold blows bring moisture to the Great Plains and grasslands it
is important to track these cold blows in order to identify wet and drought seasons. Also understood
is the effect humans have on the weather patterns. At least two of the past three major droughts have
coincided with changes in the general circulation of the atmosphere over the northern hemisphere
(Borchert, 1971, p.7). It is undeniable that human use of land has modified atmospheric moisture
patterns. Also effecting moisture patterns is solar radiation. For example, in years with high
volcanic activity solar radiation was lower because the atmosphere was not as transparent. Higher
solar radiation results in less precipitation due to excess heat resulting in drought (Nemanishen,
1998, p.36). It is difficult to deny that drought occurs rhythmically, however, on account of the great
randomness of weather we are only able to forecast when the next drought may be and gauge its
severity depending on what is known about the previous years.

Another variable resulting in crop loss is that of plant disease, and more specifically late blight. Late
blight is caused by the plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans
The Legal Principles For Negligence And Liability
The purpose of this memo will be to examine and provide an overview of the legal principles for
negligence and liability. Negligence is behaviour or actions that fall below an expected of care ,
and liability refers to the responsibility for the injury or harm1. For behaviour to be found negligent
four elements need to be met and proven: duty of care, standard of care, damages and proximate
cause1. This memo will describe the elements of negligence, liability, including vicarious liability
and occupier s liability, and the concepts of risk management.
Duty of Care Duty of care refers to a person being responsible for the safety of others if he or she
can foresee these people being affected by his or her actions1. The presence of a relationship and
the proximity principle are two elements that can give rise to a duty of care1. Relationships that
give rise to duty of care include coaches athletes, parents child, chauffeur passengers. The
proximity principle, also referred to as the neighbour principle, refers to the duty a person has to
refrain from conduct that can foreseeably cause injuries to those in one s direct proximity. In Bain
v. Calgary Board of Education, the defendant owed a greater duty of care to the students since the
student s parents signed a waiver authorizing the defendant to act on behalf of the parent in the
reasonable care of the students, who came from a vocational school for the learning disabled. His
standard of care was therefore equal to that of a
Alarm Fatigue
Abstract

Clinical alarm systems in acute and critical care health care settings are an assistive way to maintain
communication between the client and the nurse. Awareness and comprehension of health devices is
crucial to provide nurses with appropriate strategies for critical or non critical interventions that can
lead to sentinel events. The ECRI, a nonprofit institute, has identified alarm hazards as the Top Ten
Health Technology Hazards for 2014. (cite) In 2013 The Joint Commission published a Sentinel
Event Alert proposing a National Safety Goal to focus on alarm safety (cite). This topic is pertinent
information to be recognized and set as an achievable action in improving patient safety.

The definition of Alarm Fatigue is a situation where people become desensitized to alarms in
response to excessive exposure (merriam webster dictionary). Alarm fatigue also causes attention
spans to be lowered which affects Nurses readiness for an emergency on their shift. Alarms can be
overwhelming and all alarm alerts are designed differently. In an environment of constant urgency
Nurses have even been described as ignoring the alarms or being negligent. There are also many
different alarm terms, from false alarms and high sensitivity alarms to nuisance alarms. With so
many alarm related terms it is relevant to ensure proper understanding of these the terms to reduce

Monsoon Wedding Analytical Oral: The Many Facets of Love
We all have our own opinions on love. Some of us may be hopeless romantics who believe in
meeting the one and being swept up into a romance that will last forever. Others may think that all of
that is rubbish and that love is something that people must work on in order to get right. Either
way, love is something that affects all of us. The 2001 film, Monsoon Wedding, follows the lives of
a Punjabi family as they prepare for the arranged marriage of the oldest daughter of the Verma s,
Aditi. This marriage is anything but simple, with the film containing several subplots of different
couples and families who are all connected by this wedding. Mira Nair, the director, ... Show more

Lalit would do absolutely anything for his children. After he discovers that Tej molested Ria
when she was a child, he s placed in an extremely difficult position. In the scene, Smile Lalit
makes his decision and tells Tej and his wife to leave my family and my home and that he d
protect them [his children] from myself even if I have to . A close up of Ria s face as she hears
that Lalit has chosen her over Tej, places Ria in a state of disbelief that the choice is being made
in her favour, that she is being prioritised over Tej, an elder who the family owes so much to. Lalit
is clearly exhausted by what he s just done but by removing Tej from the wedding he s cleared the
tension and has allowed Aliyah to be a child again and has given Ria the closure she needed.

One of the subplots of the film follows the blossoming romance of P.K Dubey and Alice, the Verma
family maid. All it really took was one look at each other in The Marigold gate for them to
develop feelings and to notice that what they had was special. Marigolds are used as a symbolic
prop in the film and are an important symbol in the relationship between Alice and Dubey. When
they first meet, Alice puts a marigold behind her ear and Dubey eats on that lands in his pocket.
When Dubey proposes to Alice he has a heart of marigolds and offers it to her. When they get
married, they have a small ceremony and are protected from the rain by
