My Visit To The Chicago River
Chicago is one of the few cities around the world that incorporates nature to its rich history of
architecture fleets, which makes it a unique city. There are many magnificent architectural styles
around the city, but we mainly focused on the Art Deco style. This trip truly incorporates a better
understanding of how nature and Art Decobuildings around the Chicagoland area tend to create a
wonderful experience for the public. On this trip, I visited the Chicago River, NBC Tower, The
333 N Michigan Ave, and The Merchandise Mart The start of our trip we decided to visit the
Chicago River and learn about how it is an important asset to the city. We saw numerous boats
traveling and people walking by the river. It gave us a chance to look at nature s beauty in the heart
of the city. When walking by the river, it gave me a soothing feeling from the busy city... Show more

The building was built in 1930. The architects were Graham, Anderson, Probst, and White.
Merchandise Mart may not be a tower, but it still resembles an Art Deco concept. I notice the
building has vertical lines, multiple windows, and a rectangle shape. In class we talked about how
the building is unique in own way by having multiple pyramids on the sides of building. We also
talked about how artificial lights can make the building bold during the night time such as
highlighting the pyramid tops. The building resembles the Art Deco concept, but it may be different
with its own unique way.
In conclusion, the second field trip helped me to better understand the different styles of architecture
structures around Chicago especially the Art Deco style. During the trip, I understood why the
Chicago River is important to the city because it might have given inspiration to the architects. When
looking back on this trip the different architects from different time periods may have create a
unique design by creating different Art Deco
Houston City Case Study
Houston s belief in low costs, privatization and decentralization is apparent in the structure and
practices of the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) which administers to the third most
populous county in the United States. The HCFCD is a special purpose district organized in 1937 to
design, implement and maintain floodreduction infrastructure and programs for the entirety of the
county including HoustonCity. For this, they retain only 380 full time employees. This necessitates
that nearly all engineering design and maintenance work for capital projects is contracted to the
private sector through a bidding process. Similarly, 100% of routine maintenance in contracted out to
private companies.10

Recent decades have seen an increase in the amount of water flowing into the reservoirs, primarily
due to increases in impervious surfaces. Of the 10 largest pools that have accumulated in the
reservoirs, nine have occurred since 1990 and six of those were since 2000. 21 In 2009, the dams of
the reservoirs underwent an evaluation. They were classified as Dam Safety Action Classification
(DSAC) 1 Dams, meaning at extremely high relative risk for failure when considered with the
potential life and economic consequences. The embankment permeability and strength and the outlet

Aletta s Appointment As The Grand Vigil
The pinnacle of Aletta s narrative was set in motion upon concluding her bootlegged Viridian
training overseen by the marred . Thereafter, Aletta rallied like minded individuals whom denounced
the recent upheaval of magic to Regalia, and laid down the fundamental bricks of what would later
become the Azure Order. The organization was viewed by spectators as one of necessity, duly to the
sum of Regalian citizens believing their infestation was to be eradicated by this newfound party.
Throughout the duration of Aletta s appointment as the Grand Vigil people had disputed whether a
womancould bear the attributes mandatory to the survival of the order. Yet, she proved herself a
formidable swordsman by adapting her informal Viridian training
Ernest Hemingway Feminism
Ernest Hemingway is a male author of fictional stories whose work has been controversial
regarding the way he portrays women. This paper will explain how feminist scholars view Ernest
Hemingway s fictional stories and why. The way female scholars view Hemingway s stories are
important because readers have criticized Hemingway for use stereotyping women in his work and
others have enjoyed his work. Therefore, it is important to learn about the different view female
scholars have on his fiction. Lawrence Broer and Gloria Holland of The University of Alabama argue
that Hemingway has an inability to portray women as independent, strong and sympathetic, therefore
why should women continue to read, teach and write about his work (Broer, Holland 7). In contrast
Margaret Bauer proposes that the problem critics have with Hemingway s female characters is not
that they are one dimensional, but that they are not the central characters (Bauer 126). Throughout
this paper short stories by Hemingway like Indian Camp, Hills Like White Elephants, The Sun Also
Rises, A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Cat in Rain and The Last Good Country.
Throughout the research studies have shown that female scholars criticize Ernest Hemingways
stories passed on prior knowledge to what they have heard about him. However, other scholars read
Hemingway s work with an open mind and make their interpretations afterward. The research has
shown both negative and positive responses to Hemingway s

Examine the Role of the Church in Spain’s Conquest and...
Question:Examine the role of the Church in Spain s conquest and colonization of continental
America.
The role of the Roman Catholic Church in Spain s conquest and colonization of continental America
was a two fold process whereby under the façade of conversion and control lay the primary goal of
gaining wealth, enforcing laws and the inevitable extension of control while condoning the
beginnings of European slavery in the Caribbean.[i] Alternately, behind the movement for converting
Indians lay some important influences in Spain. The Spanish Crown established royal controls over
the ecclesiastical benefices and over the immense wealth of the church.[ii] Two papal bulls were
issued in the year of 1493 that established the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Associated with their attention to the spiritual needs of conversion, the priests endeavored to
eliminate heathen practices among those Indians that they baptized.[x] The non Christian people of
the Americas were not simply to be converted; they were to be civilized, taught, humanized, purified
and reformed. The Indians to be converted were strangers speaking in many unfamiliar tongues. In
most cases, when the Friars first encountered them, they had been only recently conquered and
subjugated, and even if not actively hostile they were likely to retain covert antagonisms. In their
experience all Spaniards were exploitative. The Indian religions were composites of ceremonies and
attitudes of the most diverse sort, no single technique of conversion could be employed. Conversion
required both the introduction of Catholic Christianity and the extirpation of existing native religions,
and of the two tasks the latter was the more difficult one.[xi] Modern anthropology demonstrates that
the elimination of pagan traits was only partial. In Indian societies of the twentieth century, even in
the areas of most active Christian labour, residual pagan forms survived. The mission programme
resulted in the syncretism of the Indian religion and Roman Catholic Christianity. Indians might
have responded enthusiastically to the new teaching, but they tended to interpret Christianity as a
Questions On Increasing Disciplinary Reading
1.Increasing Disciplinary Reading Biancarosa (2012) states in the introduction to this section that as
students progress up through the grades their reading in content area courses becomes
progressively more distinct (p. 47). A student in a fourth grade science course will encounter
different terminology in a fourth grade social studies course and even more diverse terminology by
the time they reach high school biology. However, I have often found, and Biancarosa (2012) as
acknowledges that many schools do not focus on readinginstruction across content areas. Biancarosa
elaborates, too often, schools do not explicitly teach students how the reasoning processes,
strategies, and rules for achieving comprehension vary across the content areas (p. 47). In order to
develop adolescents literacy skills we need to increase their interaction with diverse disciplinary
texts. Looking at this from the higher education lens, once a student moves from the college prep
classroom to the collegiate environment they will be required to demonstrate comprehension and
research skills in their specialized field of study. The best measure that teachers in the K 12 arena
can do to assist them for this transition is to increase their interaction with these texts during the
duration of their elementary and secondary school years.
2.Help Students Achieve Proficiency in Digital Reading This was rather a common sense
recommendation given how much technology and digital reading students are
