Blackrock Play Essay
The first of two plays that has been considered for selection in upcoming International Theatre for
Young People s Festival soon to be held in Vancouver, Canada is Blackrock by the late Nick Enright.
The plays must represent the values, attitudes and beliefs of today s Australian Youth Culture.
Blackrock explores the strength of mateship, the importance of image and the dangers of peer
pressure, parties and underage drinking. The second play is the popular Blurred by the playwright
Stephen Davis; which offers a comedic and clever representation of perhaps the most famous
Australian youth orientated rite of passage, Schoolies . Both of these plays portray representations
of the highest calibre of Australian youth culture. Both... Show more content on [Link] ...
Now you get in the van. Your turn to look after me. (P56 7) This illustrates not only what type of
character Ricko is but also the way in which he interacts with other characters in Blackrock. He
uses foul language such as: You are, man, you fucken are (p57) The language used in Blackrock
depicts the Surfie sub culture that resides within Australian Youth Culture. A prime example of
how Enright has utilized language to appeal to the targeted group, teens, was one of Toby s initial
lines. Toby is a close friend of Jared and also sister of Jared s girlfriend Rachel: I ll put on a keg
show down the surf club (P3) Enright also exploits Australian colloquialisms to reiterate the theme
of teenage rebellion, something generic of the western world. Unfortunately inherit of teenage
rebellion is anti social behaviour so eloquently put by Dave: Bet ya ten bucks you can t take out that
street light (P27) Also it is apparent that the teenage characters in this play, are excessively
disrespectful of their parents: Diane (mother) Where are you going? Jared (son) Shut up! Shut the
f@#$ up! (P29) Enright also to connect with audiences uses colloquialism and refers to things that
aren t widely apparent internationally, only adding to the genuine underpinning of the play: It s not a
Nethergrave By Gloria Skurzynski Analysis
In the story Nethergrave by Gloria Skurzynski, lies a boy named Jeremy. Jeremy is a misfit, a
person that don t belong anywhere, or a person that is different. Jeremy is the kind of boy who can
memorize a whole book of sports, but can t physically play any sports. He vaults to the internet for
hope of his four friends, but instead he finds something different. Even though, Gloria Skurzynski
story Nethergrave is a science fiction genre, I believe that the meaning of this story could be that
there s always a place for everyone. In the beginning, Jeremy struggles with the schools most
abrasive students, and his daily life. Though, Jeremy knew that he wasn t any good on his soccer
team, he thought the school was too deep in frivolity to ever pay attention to other student s needs.
Since, the school suggest that the students need to sign up for an activity,... Show more content on

However, that doesn t mean that he doesn t have friends at all. Right after school, Jeremy would
go home, and log into his computer along with his three other buddies: Hangman, PrincessDie5,
and Dr. Ded. These four friends met in a music chat a while back, and ever since then, they
became friends. It s natural for many kids, pre teens, and teens to go on the internet looking for
friends, and wanting to feel like they have someone to talk too. They would settle down, and talk
about death jokes, until someone goes. Considering Jeremy s temperament, he lies to his online
friends, so they wouldn t know about him in real life. After every lie, he would tell them, was
getting harder to keep up with them, so he would tell another lie. Jeremy knew that lying to them
was the wrong thing to do, and he also knew that he doesn t really belong with his online friends
either. Being accepted is one thing, but lying just to be accepted is another thing. Now, like
everything in Jeremy s life was turning away, something magical
The Technology And Collaborative Learning
Information and communication have changed rapidly during the past decades, both hardware,
software and networking. Many communication devices are smaller and easier to use and are more
convenient. For example, smart phones, PDAs, portable computers, iPad, and tablets are important
tools for study so having them smaller and easier to use is of great value.
Educational policies in Thailand have packed Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
into the curriculum. Therefore, the current tools used in teaching need to be portable devices.
Teachers and students use portable devices for sharing information, preparing reports, presentations,
and communications to promote learning together. Students interact in group activities together.
However, if students are unable to interact easily with others, it affects their education. If the
instructor integrates technology with collaborative learning, I believe it is the best way to teach the
students. In this study, the researcher develops the model of collaborative learning to enhance
undergraduate students education. The borderless classroom utilizes both technology and
collaborative learning.

Harlem Poetry Countee Cullen Analysis
Comparison of Harlem Poetry The Harlem Renaissance was a time of great racial reform in the
United States that fully began in the twentieth century. This movement brought a change in the U.S.
and formed may new styles of writing and ways of expressing feelings. Many great authors and
poets emerged during this time of alteration. One such author is Countee Cullen. In the two poems,
Saturday s Child and From the Dark Tower , mutually written by Countee Cullen, he explains how
race governs the lifestyle lived in a particular era, as well as the significance of it toward the Harlem
Renaissance. In Cullen s, Saturday s Child , he states, Some are teethed on a silver spoon, / with
the stars strung for a rattle; / I cut my teeth as the black raccoon /for implement of battle /...Some
are swaddled in silk and down, / And herald by a star, / They swathed my limbs in sack cloth gown
/ on a night that was black as tar (5 8). This reveals how African Americans were treated throughout
American history.... Show more content on [Link] ...
During this time, many prominent authors began to emerge with poems, papers, and stories that
portrayed how life was shifting for African Americans, as well as how life was before this
movement. It was more tolerable for African Americans to become educated during the Harlem
Renaissance, and writing about how life was for them became a true art form. It is stated by Harden,
Jackson, and Pitts, that The Harlem Renaissance is a product of African American culture and
history, as Gates and McKay describe it as the irresistible impulse of blacks to create boldly
expressive art of a high quality as a primary response to their social conditions, as an affirmation of
their dignity and humanity in the face of poverty and racism (8). This movement was a major

Smoking And Smoking Cessation
Smoking is an addiction that risks one s health which in turn can lead to death. As time advances,
both smokers and non smokers have begun understand the harm in this deadly habit as it doesn t
only affect the smokers, but anyone who encounters second hand smoke. Since people have become
aware of the health risks of smoking, cessation tools such as nicotinereplacement therapy were
invented to help cigarette smokers terminate their desires to smoke. As technology improves,
smoking tools are created, like the electronic cigarette (e cigarette) that was invented in 2003
(Rahman, Hann, Wilson, Worrall Carter, 2014). Electronic cigarettes can deliver low doses of
nicotine to ease withdrawal symptoms. Furthermore, as electronic cigarettes increase in popularity
the question arises if these devices can be used for smoking cessationpurposes like nicotine
replacement therapy (NRT). After discussing the topics of e cigarettes and smoking cessation, one
will conclude that electronic cigarettes can be compared to nicotine replacement therapy as a
successful quitting method. Furthermore, the use of electronic cigarettes can be an effective method
of smoking cessation. Typically, the first step of smoking cessation is having the desire to quit
smoking. Moreover, smoking cessation can be hard to accomplish when the smoker does not intend
to quit smoking. For one to abandon this habit, one would think that a desire to quit should be
present for a successful cessation. Electronic

As our Outback dealers near Hilton Head like to point out, the 2017 Subaru Outback offers more
space than many of its competitors. This is of great help when hauling kids to sporting events or
heading out for a camping trip for the weekend. The cargo loading area and roof are lower in this

Gift Of The Magi Sacrifice
Leaves fall, and crisp weather comes bounding around the corner. This signifies the transition into a
more cozy time of year, and the holidays that tag along really push the importance of generosity
and keeping loved ones close. Not only do the seasons overflow with sacrifice and love, but
literature, too, with an abundance of stories following this basic outline. Perhaps, one of the most
well known theme of loveand sacrificeis displayed in The Gift of the Magi. Within this short fiction, a
poor, young, married couple cannot scrape together enough money to buy each other Christmas
presents. As the story unfurls, Jim and Della both end up selling their most valuable asset to buy
one another a gift. O. Henry applies allusion, imagery, and irony to convey how love drives people
to make meaningful sacrifices. The author s use of allusion demonstrates the brilliance of love
within sacrifice and how truly valuable sacrifices turn out to be. First and foremost, the narrator
describes throughout this piece exactly how Della and Jim were foolish enough to give up their
prized possessions. However, that statement is repealed when Henry compares the main characters to
the magi. He endorses that ...of all who give gifts, these two were the wisest. (Henry p 368). This
comparison clarifies that they were the wise men because they give to each other out of sentimental
value, from the heart. In the traditional Christmas story, it states that the actual wise men brought

Short Story The Thing In The Forest
In the short story The Thing in the Forest by A.S Byatt, the author introduces the thing as dark,
ominous and has a very putrid smell that is almost like a representation of death. The thing in the
forest lurks and wanders around the forest next to a house filled with children that have been sent
there because they have been evacuated from their town. I believe that the thingrepresents or would
symbolize many things, and also considering the time frame the story was written in pre world war
era I would say that the story probably represent the deathor the decay of the men that fought in the
war. Also I believe that the thing symbolizes something literal like an injured soldierthat tried to get
the attention of the girls that wandered the forest. Lastly, In parts of the story I gives you some
indication of the thing and it makes the thing sound like it might be any army closing in on a
country or city cause the thing came in waves . So the thing might be a wave of scary putrid
smelling soldiers that sound and looks like death.
So, I would believe that the thing in the forest has many interpretations on the symbolic point of
view. First, I believe that the Thing that lurks in the forest just simply represents the sight and
smell of the dying soldiers of the war. I have reason to believe that it might symbolize dead soldiers
because in the story Penny first heard the thing that was in the forest and list what she hears and
sees and even smells. She says she

produced for Field of Dreams, interestingly that same year he won another Grammy for his
contributions on the dramatic civil war movie Glory. 1995 was a very productive year as well,
winning two more Academy Award nominations for Apollo 13 and Braveheart. It wasn t until
1997 for Horner to hit the big payday though. Horner won two Oscars for his score and song My
Heart Will Go On , premiering in the record breaking blockbuster Titanic that starred Leonardo

Horner was still productive through 2000 s, though his success wasn t nearly as prolific as the 90 s.
Earning himself another three Oscar nominations, Avatar s (2009) success was almost comparable

Repentance Of Sinners In The Parable Of The Lost Sheep
How is Luke s claim on repentance of sinners in the Parable of the Lost Sheep being illustrated by
the differences in detail found, in comparison to the Gospels of Matthew and Thomas?
The Parable of the Lost Sheep is one of the many parables Jesus gave during his lifetime. It is
found in the two canonical gospels: Matthew 18:10 14 and Luke 15:3 10. It is also found in the non
canonical gospel of Thomas 107. It is about a shepherd who leaves his flock of ninety nine sheep
behind to go look for the one sheep that is lost. This context is similar in all of the three Gospels.
However, although there are similarities, there are also differences. These differences have an
implication for the message grasped by the readers. The focus will be on the repentance of sinners
claimed in the Gospel of Luke and how it differs from the messages found in the other two Gospels.
I will do this by analyzing the effect of the differences in language, symbolic representation, location
of the parable, audience, and the context in which it is written, found in these three Gospels.
In terms of symbolic presentation, Luke uses the word sinners to compare them to the sheep as seen
in verse 7, ...one sinner who repents... Jesus is giving a reason why he is friends of tax collectors
and sinners. This is because they are like the sheep, lost and need saving through repentance. In the
Gospel of Matthew, Jesus uses the words little ones . Jesus uses these words after giving a lesson

The Physical Importance Of Outdoor Recreation
Outdoor recreation, but more specifically a place attachment that can be associated with outdoor
recreation, has had a huge impact on my life. Throughout my childhood, my family and I would
constantly travel to many outdoor recreation locations including Myrtle Beach, Pinery Provincial
Park, and St. Jacobs Farmers Market. These places hold special meaning and an emotional bond
for me, because I associate them with youthfulness and happiness. While everybody views place
differently, people form emotional attachments and beliefs of these places based on different
specifications. According to Williams and Stewart (1998), individuals may feel a special
connection to a place based on its social or personal history, scenic beauty, or spiritual meaning (p.
22). To truly understand the meaning of place and the importance of outdoor recreation, I recently
took part in four separate experiential activities at St. JacobsFarmers Market in Waterloo, Ontario.
After partaking in four outdoor experiential episodes at St. Jacobs Farmers Market, I decided to
create a time capsule of my experience for people to open fifty years from now. The time capsule
included post cards, photos of my experience, and a few physical components that I found
represented the market well and represented the importance of outdoor recreation. One of the
physical components was a maple sugar candy to represent how maple was an important staple to
Canadians, and how procuring maple syrup is an activity that can
Theme Of Colonialism In The Quiet American
The Quiet American written by Graham Greene is set in the first Indochina war in Vietnam. The
novel reflects on the opening stages of American involvement in the conflict between Vietnam and
French, which led to the war. Greene uses the relationships between the characters Fowler, Pyle, and
Phuong to symbolize the position of each country in this international dispute. The novel mainly
explores the shades of unusual European social and political relations with Vietnamthrough the
character Fowler and Phuong. Moreover, The Quiet Americandepicts the unique perspective of the
dominant country and subordinate country in the colonialism symbolically through Fowler and
Phuong.

To begin with, even though Fowler keeps competing with Pyle over Phuong ... Show more content

Fowler is unable to marry Phuong because of his responsibility in England. He has not spent all
his effort on Phuong for the possibility that he might go back to England if his wife does not
agree to divorce him. However he desperately obtains the benefits of living with Phuong. Such
position of Fowler shows Europe s selfish desire to maintain colonial power over Vietnam,
blocking the autonomy of the subservient country. However, there is an unexpected ambiguity in
Fowler s feeling, as even though Fowler treats Phuong as an object, he still has a deep attachment
to her that he weeps at the possibility of losing her (394). While Fowler refers to Phuong as a
hooked fish (30), the revelation of the unfortunate role of Vietnamese women, at the same time he
said that Dante never thought up that turn of the screw for his condemned lovers. Paolo was never
promoted to Purgatory. (35), comparing him and Phuong to Paolo and Francesca, Fowler valued
their eternal love with the fear that their love will end up as a tragedy. All these emotions of Fowler
show how the dominant country indeed desires the colony on multiple levels, as a servant like
figure or a companion, or even a
