Analysis Of The Book Flavio s Home
In life there will always be those moments that we most value and those that we wish to avoid.
Misfortunes are the situations or events that we wish to vanish from our lives because we view
them in a negative way. However, what many choose to avoid is actually something that defines
who we are. Misfortunes develop one s characterand it identifies us as a person. Everyone goes
through different situations and because of that each and every person develops their own unique
character based on those misfortunes. The essays Flavio s Home by Gordon Parks, What I ve
Learned From Men by Barbara Ehrenreich, and Common Decency by Susan Jacoby all explain to us
in detail the situation that a particular person is going through which in the end reveals how the
person s character was developed by that misfortune.

Flavio s Home by Gordon Parks is an essay full of emotions for Flavio Da Silva, the main
character of the story. Flavio lives in extreme poverty and he serves as a leader for his younger
brothers and sisters. The author emphasizes the horrible conditions in which Flavio and his
family live in by stating phrases like, The floor, rotting under layers of grease and dirt, caught
shafts of light slanting down through spaces in the roof. A large hole in the far corner served as a
toilet (para. 6). As we can see the conditions in which this young man and his family live are
atrocious. The misfortune for Flavio is just that, he lives a life that no could ever imagine living.
My First Year Of College
As if my first semester of college wasn t bad enough the second semester was even worse. One day I
woke up to a string of events would shape my life forever in a way that I never saw coming. It was
my first year of college, a dream come true to be out of my mom s house and in the mix of over
thirty six thousand people. Unfortunately, I forgot in a school of such large numbers you are just
a single person. This means you yourself aren t exactly a priority or concern of a university of
such large scales. At least that is how I felt after the failure of my second semester of college.

The night had only just begun though, I chugged water and did my natural dramatic throwing up

convincing someone to let me in their car, she drove me to the closest urgent care just for the
doctor to tell me it could be food poisoning or something else, we really don t know. I told my
doctor in exact details of my night before when he then insisted blood work. He got out a needle
and took 3 vials of blood, although I ve been scared of needles my entire life I just remember
sitting on the blue vinyl bed weighing my options of running from the needle and having to live
like this and risking getting worse or just letting him do his job. By the time I had decided which

The doctor s conclusions were again unclear. In the end, the doctor gave me some big white pills

semester. That was the start of my failure. My grades were slipping like
Analysis Of The Movie Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid
At a young age of eight, David Fincher s passion for cinema grew when he saw the movie Butch
Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Born in 1962 Denver, Colorado, David Fincher moved to
Ashland, Oregon in his teens, where he graduated from Ashland High School. Much of his time
here, he directed plays, designed sets, and managed lighting after school. Until one summer, he
and a friend attended the Berkley Film Institute s summer program, where he hoped to learn film
as a true art form but instead learned only the technical production. Either way he was happy to
engage is this and as his early film industry career started, he was a production assistant at his local
television news station. Years went by as he directed propaganda films then moving on to becoming
a well known music director before his first movie feature debut Aliens 3 in 1992. However, the
American director David Fincherdidn t become a modern 21st century visionary until his creation of
the film Se7en (1995). The huge success after this film started Fincher s popularity in the film
industry. From there he continued to make ironic movies we know today, such as: Fight Club
(1999), Zodiac (2007), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), The Social Network (2010),
Gone Girl, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Reviewing his work, you can see he is best known for creating dark thrillers and has a reoccurring
artistic style to his movies. Fincher presents interesting film techniques that make him unique from

Louis Vuitton is one of the Burberry s biggest yet strongest competitors in the field of fashion. It

To sums up the above, Burberry focused it brand on the price level to come out with fashion
luxury and high quality at best affordable price as its average supply chain does not have ability to
compete with the fast fashion like Louis Vuitton (Hogarth, 2015). Louis Vuitton reported that its
pricing level based around 40 45% is expensive than any other brand considered as the highest (The

$2500 at Burberry.

Through the Harvard Business Review by Keller, Sterthal Tybout (2002), the product life cycle

From the article stated in Harvard
Diabetes Mellitus ( Dm )
Diabetes mellitus (DM) exists in 29.1 million people, or 9.3% of the United States population, and
of these 29.1 million people, 65% will die from a form of heart disease. DM adds incremental risk to
the development or subsequent exacerbation of heart failure; this holds true even after adjustment of
common risk factors such as ischemic heart disease and hypertension. Furthermore, the prevalence of
heart failure in patients with DM is between 10% and 22%; this is four times higher than the general
population.
Controlling blood glucose has been widely accepted as a method to reduce risk of atherosclerotic
cardiovascular events and new onset heart failure; although this observational relationship exists, no
evidence from randomized controlled trials illustrates that improved glycemic control modifies risk.
Many of the antihyperlipidemic agents, namely thiazolidinediones, dual peroxisome proliferator
activated receptor agonists, sulfonylureas, and insulin may cause adverse events such as increased
plasma volume, exacerbation of heart failure, dysregulation of myocardial metabolism, and
worsening of left ventricular function; therefore, a clinical concern exists with prescribing agents
that may lead to morbidity and mortality.
The United States Food and Drug Administration has set standards on new diabetic drugs safety in
regards to major adverse cardiovascular events, but heart failure events are not included in this safety
requirement. Moreover, the rates of heart failure

Competitive Strategies and Government Policies Alternative fuel is a big issue becoming more of

world. There are many regulations and government policies that will come into play in the years to

Tax exemptions are available to those who use alternative fuel in such a way as to be deemed
nontaxable by the IRS. Common nontaxable uses in a motor vehicle are: on a farm for farming
purposes; in certain intercity and local buses; in a school bus; exclusive use by a nonprofit
educational organization; and exclusive use by a state, political subdivision of a state, or the District
of Columbia. (DOE, 2011) The positive externality associated with this tax exemption is lower air
pollution in large urban areas.

A negative externality associated with alternative fuels as an energy source is the loss of jobs for
those who work in the fossil fuel industry. If alternative fuel sources become more popular and are
mandated as the primary energy source for motor vehicles, there are thousands of Americans
whose livelihoods could be adversely affected due to the shut down of rigs both on and off shore.
Entire companies could be forced to close, as they are not financially equipped to handle a retrofit to
produce or refine alternative type fuels.

Global Competition on Decisions Made by Management

The world market for biofuels has expanded leading to global competition. Many countries are

Catcher In The Rye Psychoanalytic Lens Essay
The psychoanalytic lens discusses an individual s actions based on their conscious and unconscious
mind. The novel The Catcher in the Rye , written by J.D. Salinger, focuses on the life of a depressed
protagonist, Holden Caulfield. Holden experiences the death of his young brother Allie and struggles
with transition from his innocent childhood to his sophisticated adulthood. This transition eventually
influences his mental state of mind, which causes him to suffer from loneliness, frustration and
alienation. The novel is better understood from a psychoanalytic lens rather than an existentialism
perspective because of Holden s conscious actions and unconscious desires which are portrayed
throughout the novel. The transition from an innocent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Frankenstein: warning of the dangers of science or suggestion that the human quest for knowledge is
a noble undertaking? Human societies have come a long way from the time of hunting and
gathering. Self sufficient and possessing high capacity for questioning what systems are currently in
place, and the astonishingly unique ability to discover solutions for problems; humankind is truly
one of a kind. This distinctive quality grants humanity the ability to innovate, improve on what
already exists, and create completely new things. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein the main character
Victor Frankenstein does just that, by creating his monster. Delving into the pages of Frankenstein
one can discover many underlying themes such as science and morality, true monstrosity, and human
thirst for discovery. Over the years many have posed the question of whether Mary Shelley, in
writing her novel, attempted to provide a warning for future generations of the dangers pushing the
confines of science, or wanted to provide an undertone that the pursuit of knowledge is a noble
undertaking. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein she attempts to make her audience think about the
potential that science has on humans and society as a whole. Clearly there is a message about the
human use of science in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, but due to unknown purpose of Shelley s
novel this message is a simple development of people s opinion over the course

Due to Tub being emotional, he can also be weak. Him being weak causes him to complain at
times during the story, he appears to be tender and easily harmed. Tub complains throughout the
story saying, I waited an hour and I m cold (Arp 86 and 87). Kenny and Frank never show

hoped for Frank and Kenny to be compassionate and made excuses for his self when he says that
his gland problem is what causes him to be obese. Frank and Kenny continue to make fun of him
and show no compassion at all.
Due to Tub being insecure, he longs for acceptance. In an act of hopelessness, Tub lies about

Intergovernmental cooperation in Michigan s New Economy

This article discussed the idea and development of intergovernmental cooperation in the State of
Michigan. This cooperation focused on reducing overall costs of some programs by sharing services
with other local municipalities, and reducing inefficiency within each municipality. This program
encourages collaboration and using resources in a healthier manner to benefit municipalities.

Governments that are in a fiscal crisis are consistently looking for ways to save money without
raising taxes. There is an idea that local governments can save costs by sharing services and/or

It is less of a risk to work together with a city, township or village that is not in deficit or dealing

If we look at Ecorse, MI, no municipalities wanted to for cooperation with them because they were
