The Scarlet Letter By Roger Chillingworth
Roger Chillingworth: Retribution to Death
According to an old Klingon proverb, Revenge is a dish best served cold, which Roger
Chillingworth, the evil antagonist in The Scarlet Letter knows how to serve well. As readers, we
rarely slow down and really scrutinize the works of novels. Consequently, we do not truly realize and
acknowledge the development and transition of the characters feelings, thoughts, and states of mind.
Through Roger Chillingworth, Nathaniel Hawthorne demonstrates that trying to enact retribution on
another will typically end in one s own demise.
The one definite reason for Roger Chillingworth s desire for retribution on his perceived enemy
results from Dimmesdale s act of adultery with his wife while he had not been present. Chillingworth
sends Hester Prynne, his wife, to the New World two years before while he had been busy in
England. Hester becomes impregnated by the town s minister, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale.
Chillingworth becomes infuriated; he alters his identity, giving himself a new name and profession.
Chillingworth still has to determine who has committed the act with his wife. He acts stern with
anyone that speaks with him and expresses rage at everyone for letting the act happen.
Chillingworth suspects something about the minister at first glance but has no proof if Dimmesdale
is actually the one who enacts the crime with his wife. Chillingworth asks to stay with Dimmesdale
for medical reasons, utilizing his fake profession as a
The Art of Djing and Transgression to Digital Media Essay
Generally speaking, a DJ s job is to present a series of records for the enjoyment of the audience.
That applies to the radio DJ as well they play music intermingling it with chat or some sort of
comedic performance. The club DJ, on the other hand, does something much more musically creative
s/he presents records by performing them to produce a cohesive musical atmosphere. Songs are
carefully chosen, strung together in an improvised story to make a continuous and flowing set.
Whether the DJ chooses to dramatically juxtapose songs or unnoticeably overlay and mix them
together, he creates new unique music that cannot be found anywhere else. To a large extent, it is
possible thanks to the amazing advances in technology that DJs also have... Show more content on

In America, it is reputed that the first discotheque, named Le Club, opened on New Year s Eve in
New York in 1960 (Reighley 26). Terry Noel was the first DJ known to purposefully program a
playlist, namely play a set of records in a particular order to best create and maintain the energy
level of the party. Francis Grasso is the earliest known DJ to introduce the concept of mixing to
the art of record programming. He began slip cueing which refers to slamming in a new record on
beat with the fading record without interrupting the flow of the program. When Thoren company
came out with turntables that had variable speed, called pitch control , the concept of blending
was born. Francis Grasso quickly picked up on the possibilities offered by the new invention and
is credited with the ability to keep two records on beat and in sync for over two minutes. In the
meantime, new 12 inch records replaced the traditional 7 inch record and offered the chance to
record more music onto the vinyl. In 1975, New York City was the hot spot in the world for
dance music and to a large extent, it still is. Clubs started to achieve icon like status and we can
trace the roots of today s prevailing dance music styles back to the early clubs and DJs, many of
whom influenced the way music was to be made, recorded and played in the years to come. Frankie
Knuckles and Larry Levan were two other DJs and remixers who greatly contributed to the
Women s Role In The Market Revolution Essay
During the 1800s in the United States of America, women were nothing more than the inferior
gender whose sole job was to raise children and to take care of the house, however the occurrence
of the Market Revolution within 1800 1850 was able to widen the range of duties women were
allowed to perform. This idea of the growth of the female role is strongly demonstrated by three main
events and causes of the Market Revolution. The first being the creation of the Lowell Waltham
system, where teenage girls were influenced to work in factories in return for a place to live, food
and money. The Lowell Waltham system had a monumental impact in contributing to the duties of
women. The second event was the Second Great Awakening, the spiritual enlightenment helped heed
some of the preconceive notions about the weakness of women. The third reason behind the
development of genderequality was a cause of the market revolution the Western Expansion. These
occurrences each played a hand in creating feelings of opportunity and the possibility of an equal
future for female citizens of the United Statesof America. During this time period, 1800 1850, the...

Only certain women were able to take steps toward equality and these steps were very minimal.
While female voices began to carry, they weren t in an official manor. For example, in the south,
which was lightly effected by the Market Revolution, roles for women remained at status quo
through this period. The loosening of voting requirements were a key focus point around this time,
there were less restrictions for white men. This may seem like a step in the right direction but it does
nothing more than burying the female voice once again. Another detail regarding female suffrage is
that women were not granted the right to vote until 1920s and this doesn t include female minorities

Debra Lee Business Model
Debra L. Lee in approximately 1986 was given the break to be groomed as Mr. Robert Louis
Johnson s successor. Johnson was the CEO Lee took the knowledge and soared with it. As BET
grew into a multinational media firm, Lee s obligations grew as well. In 1991, Lee was provided
the assignment for taking BET national. Which made BET the first black owned company to be
listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Lee has often regarded this as one of her most
impressive moments. (www.encyclopedia.com/doc) After proving her abilities to propel BET into
the mass media market, Lee was given a grander opportunity. She was offered the opportunity to be
President and Chief Operating Officer, in charge of BET s day to day operations during a period of
major expansion. During this expansion, the conglomerate added event productions, theme
restaurants, a men s clothing line, a financial services division, and new cable networks BET Jazz,
BET Gospel, and BET Hip Hop. BET International broadcast jazz to Europe and Africa. Black
Entertainment Televisionwas in steady progression with Debra Lee in the driver s seat. BET was
cornering the market in many areas, the website became the top gateway for many African
Americans.

Lee s leadership model moved BET programming beyond hip hop videos and reruns. She dug
deeper and offered the viewer s original movies, concerts, documentaries, late night talk shows, news
and public affairs. At a time when most broadcast and cable networks were stationary, BET
experienced year after year of audience increase and high ratings. (www.encyclopedia.com/doc)

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Polymer Nannocomposites
Polymer composites are the blend of polymers and filler materials. Disadvantages of polymers such
as low mechanical and electronic properties can be improved through reinforcing with much stronger
and highly conducting filler materials. Thus, fabricating polymer composites is of mutual benefit to
both polymersand fillers. Furthermore, advanced desired applications can be tailor made. Also,
compared to polymermicro/nanocomposites, polymer nanocomposites show much more improved
properties such as extremely smooth finishing, excellent mechanical and electrical properties at
lower loadings as low as 0.025 volume % (Schandler, Brinson Sawyer 2007). In the current chapter,
both polymer microcomposites and polymer nanocomposites are briefly discussed.

Filler reinforcements are available in various chemical forms, types, ... Show more content on

Each category has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, thermoplastics soften on
heating and eventually melt like metals (Dyson 1990). The present chapter concentrates on two
popular thermoplastics such as poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)
for fabricating conducting polymer nanocomposites (Kennedy Taylor 1991). Thermosetting
polymers are very common types of polymers, widely used for making conducting polymer
composites. Almost 5th of polymers are used are thermosetting polymers as they find applications
as they are used as composites, adhesives, and coatings (Allin 2004) These polymers are also called
as thermosets which do not melt upon heating, cannot regain its shape once it is moulded. Among
the three plastics, polyester is easy to use and very cheap. Vinyl ester shows the best chemical
resistance compared to other, and high mechanical properties than polyester. Epoxy is expensive
than vinyl esters. The present report discusses the three types of thermosets such as epoxy, vinyl
ester, and
Concept Of Absolute Purchasing Power Parity
Introduction and significance of the research question
Does the concept absolute purchasing power parity (PPP) stay true that the goods in one country
should cost the same in another country after implying the exchange rates? (For example, the pound
cost of imported goods should be the same as the price of the same goods being sold in the UK).
Absolute purchasing power parity is a concept with the assumption of goods having the same price
after exchange rates between countries. However, I want to find out if this is always true or not
since it plays an important role that differentiates from the relative purchasing power parity . There
is an assumption that if there are any deviations in the price in one of the two countries, then the
exchange rate and the relative prices should adjust to accommodate, equating to the level where the
basket of goods have the same price in these two countries (Moffatt, 2014).

The data and methodology

I will be comparing exchange rates between two countries, these are the UK (£) and the USA ($)
to see if the changes are enough to make any differences or whether just negligible. I will select
data from the year 1980 to 2015 in yearly intervals. Comparing each year with the previous year.
These will be compared using Excel and Minitab and displayed as a simple linear regression model.

The absolute PPP should mean that ERt = ERt 1 + u.

I will be using the formula ERt = a0 +bERt 1 + u = 0 and comparing that with the traditional ef = a0

Texas Governors Are Not As Powerful As Many People Think
Texas governors are not as powerful as some people think. Their personality and appearance
matter the most when being considered for a vote. The governor is seen the most rather the other
officials, which is why their personality and appearance is so important. Governors used to be able
to serve a 2 year term but that changed in 1974. The service term increased by 2 years. Rick Perry

Miriam Ferguson was the first female governor of Texas. She served two terms in 1927 and 1935.
She decided to run after her husband s impeachment and conviction. Her slogan for the first
election s campaign was Me for Ma, and I Ain t Got a Durned Thing Against Pa. She beat her
opponent with 58.9 percent of votes. In the second election she won with 61.6 percent of the votes.
Houstonians may know her for her signature on the Texas House Bill 194. This particular law was
important for the University of Houston. In 1933, the University was established as a four year
institute. During Miriam s second an amendment was passed to disable the governor to issue
pardons. Within the two terms that Miriam served, she issued about 4000 pardons to the violators of
the prohibition law.
Ann Richards was the second female Texas governor. Unlike Miriam Ferguson she didn t serve two
terms. Although, she ran for a second term she lost to George W. Bush. During Ann s governorship
she introduced lottery tickets to Texas. She bought the first lottery in May of 1992 near Austin. The
lottery revenue was supposed to enhance the finances for schools. Ann Richards was also known for
her anti homosexual mentality. She signed a law that made homosexuality illegal. Ann Richards is
also recognized for appointing the first non white commission head. Hispanic, Lena Guerrero was
appointed as the head of the Texas Railroad Commission.

Charismatic Gifts Debate Essay

Gifts Debate For my research paper I choose the charismatic gifts debate because coming from a
Pentecostal/Charismatic background growing up in church, I know a little about the gift. With
growing up in a Charismatic church, I saw the gifts in action. There is a lot of debate on whether
the gift is relevant for today or have they ceased from the church. One side says that the gifts are
in the past and is not relevant for the day that we live in and another side says that the gifts are still
relevant for today. There is one group that says that if you do speak in tongues, then you are under
demonic control and are not really saved. Both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again we need to look at how the Bible uses these words. In John 17:3 it says that This is eternal
life that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. (New
American Standard Bible, 1995 revised). In that verse it talks about how having eternal life is to
also knowing God. Also only the believer is known by Jesus (John 10:27; Gal. 4:8 9; Romans
8:29). The unbeliever is not known by Jesus (Matt. 7:21 23). In every verse except for one, God
says that he knows only the believers. Knowing this is a kind of salvation knowing, it is a kind of
knowing that God gives to the Christians. He knows them and knows that they are saved. The
unbelievers are not known and therefore are not saved. It would seem to be consistent with scripture
to say that ...as I m fully known would refer to salvation relationship between the Christians and
Jesus Christ. When the return of Christ comes, we as Christians will see him face to face. Another
argument is that present day tongues are further revelation and then must be equal to scripture and
ought to be included into the Bible. But since the Bible has nothing to add to it, the gift of tongues
must no longer be valid. The problem with this argument is that faulty because recognizes revelation
that cannot be added into the Bible. 1 Cor. 14:26 talks about the church in Corinth were revelations
were revealed that were not included in the Bible. In this verse it
Characters In The Movie Groundhog Day Vs. Happy Death Day
Groundhog Day vs. Happy Death Day Groundhog Day is a 1993 movie starring Bill Murray. It is a
Drama/Romance directed by Harold Ramis rated PG. Groundhog Day was so popular it was
even made into a musical in 2016 composed by Tim Minchin. Happy Death Day, however, is a
2017 mystery/thriller. It is rated PG 13 and is directed by Christopher B. Landon. Although Happy
Death Day is assumed to be just a scary version of Groundhog Day, these two movies have more
differences and similarities in characters, situations, and setting than people might think. The main
character of both movies begin the storyline as self centered people. They are rude and have no
concern for the people around them. The main character from Happy Death Day, Tree Gelbman is
a blonde sorority sister in college. In the beginning of the movie, Tree wakes up, hungover, after
getting drunk from a party the previous night which makes her late to a lecture. This indicates that
she is irresponsible and what most people consider to be the average partying college student. The
main character in Groundhog Day, Phil Connors, is a weatherman who thinks he s above everyone
else. In the movie this character uses sarcasm, irony, and does his best to ignore everyone and
live a life of solitude. One thing these two characters have in common is falling for the people that
they thought they never would in the beginning. Tree falls for Carter Davis, the college student
whose dorm she woke up in after the party. Phil Connors falls in love with Rita Hanson, a news
producer who works in the same studio as him. These Two characters are stuck in incredibly similar
situations with very slight differences. They are both trapped in a time loopthat shows some sort of
relevance in their lives and they have to do figure out what they need do in order to move on to
the next day. In the beginning they simply think it s deja vu, but after they realize they will
always wake up to the same day, even if they die, they begin to enjoy immortality and use it to
their advantage. In her time loop, Tree Gelbman wakes up to the sound of university bells in
another college student s (Carter Davis s) dorm room after a party. She walks back to her sorority
house,

Every material is authentic if it was originally produced by native speakers for native speakers of a
language. The present study intends to examine TV series as authentic materials, or more precisely
authentic videos. Talaván (2007), Ianiro (2007) and Wottipong (2014) all explore authentic materials
in their research projects. In the following their findings about authentic materials will be discussed.
According to Talaván, the term authentic video includes TV series, films, and commercials that are
produced primarily for native speakers. Ianiro defines authentic materials in the following way:
Authentic materials are print, video, and audio materials students encounter in their daily lives, such
as change of address forms, job applications, menus, voice mail messages, radio programs, and
videos. Authentic materials are not created specifically to be used in the classroom, but they make
excellent learning tools for students precisely because they are authentic.
Everybody Loves Raymond Gender Roles
The 2000s TV show viewed was Everybody Loves Raymond . In this show, a nuclear upper
middle class family is portrayed. Surprisingly, this TV show brings back some traditional gender
roles, as the mother and wife, Debra, is a stay at home mom. While the father and husband, Ray, is
a sportswriter for a newspaper. This is strange because as we progressed through the decades these
traditional genderroles seemed to be eliminated. However, there are still some major difference
from the gender roles seen in the older TV shows like Leave it to Beaver . Although Debra is a
stay at home mom, she appears to be the primary disciplinarian and overall seems to be
considered the head of the household, as she is a very strong woman character. Her husband, Ray,
is portrayed as a goofy, awkward, childish husband and father. He is not a strong and intimidating
authority figure like Ward Cleaver was portrayed. The children in this show follow the same trend
set by those children in the 1990s TV show, they are rather resistant of the parents authority and use
the resistance to authority to gain power over their parents. Once again, we see the woman of the
household take the lead role... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A short ten years later, Richard moved to New York City, where he was told it would be easier
getting published. One year later, Wright s first book was published. Since then, Wright has wrote a
