Theoretical Essay On Domestic Violence
Nadeen Hamdan
INTS 314 Theoretical Essay 1
February 8, 2016
Domestic Violence is unfortunately a huge social issue that occurs all over the world. Domestic
Violence is a type of exploitation that occurs in a household. This exploitation may include some sort
of physical, emotion, or mental abuse. We typically tend to believe that domestic violence transpires
in an intimate relationship between a man and a woman. Although this logic may appear more often,
we must understand the general idea behind what domestic violence truly means.
Perpetuators of domestic violence are defined to be the more dominate individual taking advantage
of the victim. Once the perpetuator is able to gain control over the victim, it is extremely hard to get
out of. ... Show more content on [Link] ...
As a child, I was beat many times due to what I always believed to be misbehavior. Although there
have been times where my beatings would be due to my disobedience, it was more than just that.
It was primarily due to aggression that my father carried home from a stressful day. When I was
younger, my sisters and I understood that once my dad arrived home from work, that we should
be extremely cautious of everything we do. For instance, talking and playing too loud was
frowned upon. His methods of violence included beatings with shoes, coat hanger, belts, and
sometimes just anything he can grab his hands on. Looking back and understanding why my dad
did what he did was due to stress. He was put under a lot of pressure trying to sustain and support
family by making ends meat. He is self employed as a taxi driver, so there are days where he may
make money, and other times where he may not. It s almost as a gamble, due to no consistent
income. Unfortunately he wasn t aware on how to properly deal with his aggression. His
aggression had lead me to hate as well as be scared of him. My healing process began as I grew
older to defend myself. As I physically grew, I began to fight and yell back which caught him off
guard. By repeating this action, the violence eventually stopped. He begun to realize his mistake and
took initiative to apologize. This particular experience is what lead my interest to research more

Artificial Intelligence ( Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ) Essay
Within the construction industry, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is beginning to take jobsites by
storm. If someone were to walk onto a jobsite today, someone in that location would be using AI.
Current uses of AI today span from mobile technology that supervision uses to man a jobsite to an
actual robot pouring concrete or welding a pipe. With the technology improvements being made
daily, there will be a day few people will consist of the workforce on the job, and the rest will be
some sort of robotics. Among the Artificial Intelligencebeing used or that will be the future are:
Drones/UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), SAM (Semi Automated Mason), robotic welding,
Autonomous TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) Truck, and Contour Crafting.
Drones/UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) A lot of people may think of drones, also known as
UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), as the toys children play with in the yard after opening their
Christmas gifts, but for the construction industry, it means so much more. Drones are capable of a
multitude of things, and for business owner s and clients, the most important thing is getting the
job done sooner with reduced costs. Previously, layouts of jobsites took weeks. The land had to
be surveyed to verify if the soil was appropriate and whether it needed to be graded or not. Areas had
to be marked off where each trade would store their material. Physical surveying of the area with
tripods had to be done, as well, for the specific layout and placement of the
Dorothea Dix Essay
Dorothea Dix

Born in 1802, Dorothea Dix played an important role in changing the ways people thought about
patients who were mentally ill and handicapped. These patients had always been cast off as being
punished by God . She believed that that people of such standing would do better by being treated
with love and caring rather than being put aside. As a social reformer, philanthropist, teacher, writer,
writer, nurse, and humanitarian, Dorothea Dix devoted devoted her life to the welfare of the
mentally ill and handicapped. She accomplished many milestones throughout her life and forever
changed the way patients are cared for. She was a pioneer in her time, taking on challenges that no
other women would dare dream of tackling. ... Show more content on [Link] ...
She then traveled to Europe to recuperate, under the advice of friends and family (Thinkquest, 7).
After returning to Boston, months later, she found herself with a very large inheritance that would
allow her to love comfortably for the rest of her life (Reader s Companion to American History, 1).

After realizing that she was not the type to sit back and do nothing, she accepted an invitation to
teach at a Sunday school at the East Cambridge Jail in East Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1941
([Link],1). That s when her quest began. She was shocked when she saw that mentally ill
patients were being put into the jails, and even more appalled at the conditions they were put in.

She first appealed to the local courts. Although the charges were denied, the conditions were
mildly improved ([Link], 2). Not satisfied with the outcome of the local courts, she
traveled the state of Massachusetts for two years, documenting the conditions she found
(McHenry, 1). She, with the help of a member of the Massachusetts State Legislature, Samual
Gridley Howe, presented her reports from her visits to the jails, work houses, and hospitals in
January of 1843 (Thinkquest, 10). Her reports consisted of stories such as this, the telling of a
Salem County s poor house keeper of his encounter with a patient on day: I knew I must master him
now or never: I caught a stick of wood... and laid upon him until he cried for
History Of The Ebola Virus
The Ebola virus is a virus that has been transmitted throughout Western and Central Africa
throughout the past forty years. The virus looks like a long, tube shaped cell that often tangles
over itself; it is about 80 nm in diameter and can grow up to 14,000 nm long (TKH Virology Notes
Ebola, n.d.). The Ebola virus was first discovered in Sudan, near a river by the same name. The
virus was first discovered in 1976, and is still around today. The ebola virus is in the Filoviridae
family and the Ebolavirus genus. There are five known strains of the Ebola virus, they are Tai
Forest ebolavirus, Reston ebolavirus, Bundibugyo ebolavirus, Sudan ebolavirus and Zaire
ebolavirus (Ebola virus disease, n.d.). The Ebola virus is believed to have started... Show more

The areas Ebola originated is being deforested at a very high rate (Solutions for Global Warming
Africa, n.d). The deforestation of this region causes loss of habitat to creatures that are known to
be carriers of Ebola, which means that the animals must locate a new habitat to live in. With the
loss of species in the area to inhabit and infect, the virus spread to humans will decrease. Also the
lack of rainfall and drought is also resulting in the deaths of the animal species vulnerable to the
Ebola virus. With the decrease in species to infect, and the environment around the virus adapting
to fight against Ebola, there is a strong likelihood of the virus disappearing from the local
environment. However, this does not mean that the virus will completely stop. As said before, the
deforestation is causing the animals that are common carriers of Ebola to relocate their habitats.
The animals could migrate to Southern Africa or the Middle East, where the environment may be
more hospitable for the virus to flourish. In that case the virus could spread to new species and
infect new communities of humans. The other variable that the spread of Ebola relies on is the
how the public is educated on the virus and how to stay safe. For example many people is Sierra
Leone, a country in West Africa, when their family members came down with the Ebola virus, they
would stay
Notes On Credit Rating Agencies
Literature review:
Dror Pranes (2008) said that the participants of the market have a divergent expectation. But they can
be classified as optimistic or pessimistic based on set of knowledge. He also argues that the credit
rating announcement does not give any undisclosed information to the investors or the market. It
only attempts to homogenize the investor s belief.
According to Adelson (2012) credit rating plays a vital role in providing an independent opinion
about the creditworthiness of the issuer and bridging the gap between lenders and borrowers.
Lazarescu (2003) says standardising the value judgement in relation to borrowers in the current
scenario of globalisation is contributed by credit rating agency.
De Haan and Amtenbrink(2011) argued that there are flaws in the use of credit rating agencies
judgement in regulation and accounting. The agencies have a substantial impact on the bonds and
their interest. But when the bond is downgraded it is harmful. There will be herd behaviour among
investors trying to liquidate investment. Additionally Mathis (2009) said that the construction of
issuer pays is a critical problem which may result in conflict of interest. This will make the issuers to
shop the ratings. They will go for the rating agency that provides the most favourable rating.
Journal of common market studies (2012) explains that the rating agencies suffer from shortcomings.
The rating agencies maintain transparency about the data sources and the indicators.
Mrs. Wright As A Woman s Culture Of Social Isolation Essay
Mrs. Wright in Trifles, Emily in A Rose for Emily, and Mildred in The Hairy Ape exemplified a
woman s culture of social isolation. Condemned in a house alone to worry only about her wifely
duties, Mrs. Wright s husband isolated her from the community and past self. Pressured by her
father, lover, and her own fear of abandonment, Emily lived a life of isolation from love and her
community. Caused by her many years living in the higher class, Mildred felt isolated from the
rest of society and the lower class. Mrs. Wright, Miss Emily, and Mildred have all been pushed into
seclusion away from general society, in turn causing all three of women to take drastic measures to
break their isolation. The three females in Triffles, A Rose for Emily, and The Hairy Ape
demonstrated the negative effect of social isolation.
Mrs. Wright suffered from social isolation caused by her husband. When Mr. Hale suggested the
family go in with me on a party telephone, Mr. Wright defended himself by saying he only wanted
peace and quiet and seemed to not care what his wife wanted. Even when Mr. Hale explained to
Mrs. Wright the reason behind his visit was to ask about the telephone, she laughed, but then looked
scared. As if she had been conditioned to suppress her true wishes and desires, unless she wished for
grief. Without the agency and ability to reach out to the other women, Mr. Wright isolated Mrs.
Wright from potential hobbies, social groups, and activities. Before she became
Compare And Contrast Machiavelli And Thomas More
Human nature is what human beings are born to have certain common characteristics in psychology
and behaviors that human beings uphold as the common traits of humankinds. Machiavelli and
Thomas More were two influential humanists during the period of Renaissance, and both are the
authors of The Prince and Utopiarespectively. Thomas More and Machiavelli used different ways to
address their thoughts on human nature. More created a perfect and equal Utopian community to
synchronize Utopians thoughts and human nature; at the same time, Machiavelli taught human
beings how to react and deal with the human nature, which they were born with. On one hand,
Thomas More used an ideal community with equal and fair social and political approaches to
equalize different human nature of the Utopians on the positive perspective; on the other hand,
Machiavelli discussed about human nature through his advices to the princes to be flexible enough
to go against human nature by sometimes being non virtuously, yet to fulfill good wills of their
people to maintain their power, status and reign. Machiavelli believed some traits are intrinsic in
human nature. People were selfish and put themselves in the first priority. Human beings concerns
were mainly on property and honor. (Machiavelli 50) Machiavelli saw the intrinsic humanity traits
and based on that, he made advises to the prince. A ruler should always put his first priority to the
things that he had to complete in order to maintain his power
Catechesis Personal Statement
Five years from now, I see myself as someone who leads in catechesis and catholic education in the
Archdiocese of Lingayen Dagupan. I see myself fulfilling that responsibility in the classroom where
my profession as a teacher is founded and in the bigger community of Catholic schools in our
Archdiocese. I would like to maintain my teaching career and at the same time undertake
administration tasks in Catechesis and Catholic Education.
To lead is to excel that is why I want to enroll in graduate school especially in De La Salle University

The Failure of Technology in White Noise by Don Delillo...
The Failure of Technology in White Noise by Don Delillo

One particularly unfortunate trait of modern society is our futile attempt to use technology to
immunize ourselves against the fear of death. The failure of technology in this regard is the general
subject of Don Delillo s book White Noise. Throughout this novel, technology is depicted as the
ominous messenger of our common fate, an increasing sense of dread over loss of control of our
lives and the approach of inevitable death in spite of the empty promises of technology. In this essay
I will examine Delillo s portrayal of technology and its role in our society.

The title of Delillo s book, White Noise, reminds one of an electronic static of the sort encountered on

Jack Gladney is on his fifth marriage and his fourth wife, and his world is filled with the clutter of
everyday life, with four children around the house and an uneasy sense of normalcy . Delillo,
however, exposes how absurd what we consider to be normal really is in our technology dependent
society and our compulsive desire to have machines save us from ourselves and reaffirm our
personal identities:

In the morning I walked to the bank. I went to the automated teller machine to check my balance. I
inserted my card, entered my secret code, tapped out my request. The figure on the screen roughly
corresponded to my independent estimate, feebly arrived at after long searches through documents,
tormented arithmetic. Waves of relief and gratitude flowed over me. The system had blessed my life.
I felt its support and approval. The system hardware, the mainframe sitting in a locked room in some
distant city. What a pleasing interaction. I sensed that something of deep personal value, but not
money, not that at all, had been authenticated and confirmed (42).

One day an industrial accident occurs and a lethal black chemical cloud descends upon the town.
Jack is forced to stop and fill up his tank as his family attempts to comply with the evacuation
orders. In those few minutes he is exposed to the cloud and the looming black cloud as a metaphor
of death takes on a new significance. Jack is told that in about thirty years the doctors will be able to
