Essay On Remembrance Day
The History of Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a day of memorial observed all around the world. Since the end of World
War I, the Commonwealth of Nations have looked at November 11th as a day to remember those
who fought for our countries, to protect their citizens, and protect our freedom. Without these
brave soldiers, we wouldn t have the opportunity to do many things we do today, and our world
would be very different. The history of this day is very important for people all around the world to
understand, and observe, to show their gratitude for those who have risked their lives for us.
Important points in the history of Remembrance Day is the beginning of the recognition, how it is
observed in different nations and the importance of the symbolic poppy flower.
First of all, the recognition of Remembrance Day is annual on November 11th because of the end of
World War I. The official end of World War I was set for the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th
month (11:00 am, November 11th). After WWI, the British Commonwealth began noticing this day
as Armistice Day , to commemorate the day the signing of the armistice. In 1919, King George V
chose to continue the tradition of remembering those who have risked or lost their lives for us.
Since then, the formal name for this day of memorial has been Remembrance Day . This day is
informally known as Poppy Day . As well as the Commonwealth, countries outside of this
organization began to recognize this day of
John Donne s The Sun Rising Essay example
John Donne s The Sun Rising

Critics of John Donne s The Sun Rising often note that the poem s displacement of the outside world
in favor of two lovers inner world serves to support its overall theme: the centrality of human love
amidst a permanent physical universe. In an essay entitled John Donne, Achsah Guibbory supports
this reading of the poem, stating, The world of love contains everything of value; it is the only one
worth exploring and possessing. Hence the microcosmic world of love becomes larger and more
important than the macrocosm (135). [T]he lovers room, Toshihiko Kawasaki observes similarly, is a
microcosm because it is private and self contained, categorically excluding the outer world (29). As
evident in ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Hyperbole may lack the power to change the external physical world; still it changes the private
world of the lovers, a world of emotion and experience that proves stubbornly resistant to logic,
though marvelously miraculously open to language. (241)

Indeed, this analysis is valid if readers assume with Baumlin that while the poem s logic operates
inadequately, its rhetoric works miraculously. But, is the persona s reliance on language to transcend
the physical world able to succeed? Or, does the language of The Sun Rising, like the logic, fail to
communicate the theme that many scholars have recognized?

The rhetoric of Donne s persona does seem, upon a first reading, to locate the lovers at the center of
the universe successfully while it subordinates all surrounding objects. And the poet s use of
hyperbole is convincing enough if readers immediately assume that Donne intended to oppose logic
and to define the universe s purpose through the transcendent qualities of language. Yet the
inconsistencies in rhetoric that the poem manifests, what one scholar has deemed a tangle of
contradictions and reversals, make this commonly accepted interpretation unstable (Brown 110).
While Donne s speaker may dislocate the outside world only for the extent of The Sun Rising, he is
still unsuccessful at convincing critical readers that internal love can symbolically replace the
Examples Of Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Love in a Midnight Summer s Dream In William Shakespeare s play A Midsummer Night s
Dream is about the love quadrangle that develops among Hermia, Helena, Lysander, and
Demetrius. While a group of actors rehearse a play in the woods, and find their lives changed by
the doings of Oberon and Titania, the king and queen of the fairies. It begins with Hermiarefusing to
marry Demetrius and her running into the woods with Lysander. When Hermia finds out and
reports this to Demetrius in hopes of gaining his attention. Hermia likes him but he does not like
her back. These relationships on who likes who all get messed up thanks to Puck, who on Oberon s
orders puts a lovepotion in Lysander s eyes creating the love quadrangle. The reason for the love
potion being Oberon is jealous of Titania and the changeling boy. Matt Groening once said Love is
a perky elf dancing a merry little jig and then suddenly he turns on you with a miniature machine
gun. and the audience can see this play out in a Midsummer Night s Dream when things like the
love potion come into effect and everyone is falling in love with the people they do not want to....

Ice Sheets And The Ice Sheet Dynamics
Antarctic Subglacial Lakes
Underneath the Antarctic ice sheets exist subglacial lakes which scientist are discovering play an
important role to the ice sheet dynamics above them. The physical processes involved in the creation
of these lakes . Scientist s understanding of the hydrology between subglacial lakes and the
surrounding ice sheets is beginning to become more comprehensive with studies being carried out to
attempt to link the draining and filling of lakes with the velocity of the surrounding glacier.
The formation of the subglacial lakes in Antarctica is due to a mixture of physical processes which
are also responsible for maintenance of the lakes. Water is thought to come from basal ice rising
above its pressure melting point, helped by both geothermal heating below the ice and the thick
ice above. The topography of the land beneath the ice sheets allows for the created water to flow
into topographic basins and become a lake. Lakes can also appear on the flanks of mountains and
at the beginning of large ice flows. Because the formation of water relies on the basal ice reaching
its pressure melting point, it is found that most subglacial lakes have at least 3000m of ice above
them. (Siegert, 2000; Kennicutt and Siegert, 2011; Davies, 2014, Riffenburgh, 2007) It is also
typical of big lakes to have a flat ice sheet surface, as the basal ice s frictionless contact with the
water beneath removes shear stresses. (Siegert, 2000) It is common for the lakes to form where
Biometric Codes Are Used For Recognising A User On The...
Abstract
Biometric systems are used for recognising a user on the basis of biometric traits he have. During
authentication some of the frequently asked questions are Is he who he claims to be? , Is he a
valid user for gaining access to the system? . Biometric system answers all these questions by
authenticating the users. Every second information is shared and transferred between people and
it is important to make sure that what is sent by sender is what received by the receiver thus
raising the demand of security. Steganography is one of the techniques used for securing the data.
The secret message is hidden inside a cover media like audio, video or image with the help of a
secret key. Biometric templates can also be secured with this technique. Instead of storing original
templates in the database stego image is stored. LSB is one of the common techniques that replace
the LSB of every pixel of the cover image with the secret message to form stego image.

With increasing rate of attacks, everyone today needs a reliable and secure system. Biometric
systems fulfil the needs to a great extent as biometric traits are better than passwords or pins which
have chances of being stolen and forgotten. Before using biometric systems enrolment phase is
necessary during which the templates of the users are stored in the database. During authentication
user s claim is matched with the
Similarities Between The Song Of Roland And Perceval
The concept of honor and the connection of living our life with honor has been pondered by
philosophers, intellectuals, and the common people. Even as far back as medieval times, the idea
of honor is a key factor in what shapes the rules of society. Knights would try their best to apply the
Code of Chivalryto their everyday lives. The Code of Chivalry is a compilation of rules that guide
the knightto be what was considered honorable in their time. Most knights would try to live to the
code, but it could be seen that knights would violate the code which create a horrible consequence
for him and the people around him. An example could be seen with Roland in The Song of Roland,
and Perceval in The Story of the Grail . Two knights trying their... Show more content on

In medieval times it was called the Code of Chivalry. The knights, who used the Code of
Chivalry, were living in a much different time period than ours; as they lived in a time period
without a strong central power. What this shows, for knights that honor for them is much more
focused on the individual . As Roland and Perceval fails to upheld their version of the code as
their internal conflicts were too much for them to handle. While in the modern era, which is
much more centralized, focuses more on the wellbeing of the group. In our society, being able to
work together with people and make decision based on the welfare of the common people is an
important rule for our people to live with. People in our modern era works based off that
important idea and it is in their nature to work with cooperation and for the welfare of the group.
The knights version of the code in a time era where centralization was lacking was based off
himself ,while in the modern era our focus is shifted from ourself to cooperation and the welfare of
our society.
Essay on Origins of Popular Sayings
English is an amazing language that reflects many different cultures. Americans have many popular
sayings and figures of speech that, if taken literally, make no logical sense. If you mention the
phrases white elephant, spill the beans, or to pull someone s leg, they make no sense unless you are
familiar with the culture.

The word idiom is used to describe these forms of speech. Idioms are considered to be part of a
nation s culture, and idioms can make learning a foreign language quite challenging. Scholars have
estimated American English to contain at least 25,000 idiomatic expressions. People learning a new
language must memorize the meanings of these phrases like vocabulary, because the interpretations
of idioms can be ... Show more content on [Link] ...
The origin of this popular saying will make you smile.

In the early 1700 s an English dramatist named John Dennis created an invention that would simulate
the sound of thunder in one of his theatrical productions. His play failed dismally. However, later he
found that his invention was used to create the sound of thunder in another performance. Dennis was
quoted as saying, They will not let my play run, but they steal my thunder! The phrase was
overheard, passed along and became a popular saying used in the English language.

To Spill the Beans

When someone spills the beans, they reveal a secret unintentionally. This popular saying has its
origin back in the days of ancient Greece.

When people were voted into many organizations, the membership voted secretly using colored
beans as counters. If one voted for the inclusion of the applicant, one would discretely drop a white
bean into an opaque container. If one voted against the applicant, one would secretly drop a black or
brown bean in the container. Only the officials knew the results of the voting.

Occasionally, an awkward person might accidentally knock over the container, spilling the beans
and revealing the results of the vote before the appointed time. This is how the phrase spilling the
beans has come to describe someone telling a secret.

In Pursuit of Personal Excellence
According to Confucius, The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full
potentials...these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence , but how can I
test that willingness , desires and urges if you don t have the resources and the right tool for the
challenge? Since my childhood I have been exposed to the military way of life. My grandfather
was a Korean War veteran and then retired as a Chief in the United State Coast Guard. Also my
uncle served as a seaman in the Navy. As a son of a veteran my father wanted to continue his
legacy, but for some health issue he was not allowed to fulfill that dream. So he raised his sons to
continue that legacy. He raised us in a way that we learned to embrace a sense of responsibility for
our country, honor the flag, the American way of life and democracy. And now it comes the moment
to answer the question, which armed force I m going to choose to serve my country ? The United
Statesof America have the best armed forces in the world; all of them are going to have a
prepared staff and will use the finest technological equipments that you can find. If I want to be a
good doctor, travel the world and at the same time be useful to humanity, which branch of the
armed forces is for me? The only one I can think of is the branch with the blue and gold. I choose
the Navy before of the other branches especially because in my opinion I believe is the one that does

ABSTRACT
The distribution of powers is an essential feature of Federalism. The object for which a federal State

to split up the strength of the State among co ordinate and independent authorities are especially

APPLICABILITY OF THE DOCTRINE OF REPUGNANCY
The Doctrine of Repugnancy has been applied in a number of cases in India.
In a recent judgment , dealing with the issues relating to the constitutional validity of Maharashtra
Control of the Organized Crime Act (a State legislation), the Supreme Court revisited the doctrine of
Repugnancy and explained its nuances in its decision in Zameer Ahmed Latifur Rehman Sheikh v.
State of Maharashtra and Ors. in the following terms:
Chapter I of Part XI of the Constitution deals with the subject of distribution of legislative powers of
the Parliament and the legislature of the States. Article 245 of the Constitution provides that the
Parliament may make laws for the whole or any part of the territory of India, and the legislature of
a State may make laws for the whole or any part of the State. The legislative field of the Parliament
and the State Legislatures has been specified in Article 246 of the Constitution Article 246, reads as
follows:
Subject matter of laws made by Parliament and by the legislature of States.
(1) Notwithstanding anything in clauses (2) and (3), Parliament has

three carriers (Federal Express, UPS, and Airborne Express) serve slightly more than 85% of the

able to spread fixed costs over more units. Also, each carrier has integrated technological systems
that improved operational efficiency. In addition, intensive training programs of employees increase
service and delivery efficiency. b) Extremely large capital requirements are necessary to enter the

However, such avenues of delivery limit the customer s presentation options (cannot bind
business reports / deliverables ). Also, the customer cannot transport a non paper package (e.g. a
book, a desk) via this delivery system. b) Regular mail only cost 32 cents for letters. The post
office is also very convenient. However, in regards to packages, the post office is very poor in
quality service and efficiency (cannot track packages efficiently and has an on time delivery record
much worse than commercial carriers) 3. Bargaining Power of Suppliers Medium for the following
reasons: a) Postal materials numerous suppliers of necessary postal and packaging materials.
Switching costs are not high. The postal materials suppliers have low bargaining power. b) Software
programs combined with extensive customized programming updates / additions. The software and
software customization industries both have numerous suppliers. However, given the complexity
and uniqueness of such an information network, there are probably only a limited number of
software and customization companies that can provide a carrier with a high quality system that is
capable of smoothly integrating all the operation and customer service divisions. Furthermore, the
switching costs have the potential to be extremely high because such a transfer could disrupt
communication between the divisions, leading to poor quality service. In addition, the company

Online Predators Case Study
This statistic shows that the other 95% of these online predators are chatting with children and
not lying about their age, or they are at least giving an age that is relatively close to their actual
age. 99% percent of offenders were male and almost all of the cases with males being the victim,
the offender was typically a male as well. The offenders were much older than their victims; 76%
were age 26 or older; 47% were more than 20 years older than their victims (Wolak). To put this
statistic into terms, this would be a male offender who is over 40 years old and is chatting with a
person who is only 15 years old. Most online predators have a typical method for looking for the

This information allows the predator more ways to contact or find the victim. Additionally,
sharing exposed pictures or being clearly sexual online, leaves an undesirable impression, so we
have to show kids about being careful about their advanced impression and the troubles they
could get into. Plus, having nude pictures of a minor even if you are a minor is against the law
and teens can get into legal trouble as a result. Many people are unaware of this when teenagers
are sending around naked pictures of themselves, such as to their girlfriend or boyfriends, or even
someone that they may find attractive. Finally, it is important to teach kids that if someone is
asking them for sexy pictures or engaging in sexual conversations, that person is not a friend, no
matter how cool or understanding they seem (Wolak). Parents should also be keeping close watch
of their children s computer, cell phone, and social media websites to help protect their child and
the safety of them. They have to ensure their child s information is set to private on all social media
accounts and may even ask them what the passwords are to their own personal information to ensure
that they are being savvy and safe. Children may think that their parents are being too overprotective

Team Building and Development

It takes extraordinary leadership to assemble great teams. Leaders who are not reluctant to course
right, making challenging choices and launch principles of implementation that are continually being
met and enhancing them at all times. Whether in the working environment, expert sports, or our
nearby community, team building needs a keen understanding of individuals, their merits and what
makes them eager to work with others. Llopis mentioned, Team building is both an art and a science
and the manager who constantly brings out great performance teams is worth their weight in gold
(2012).
Building organizations needs the knowledge and skill to build ever lasting teams. This is the reason
why most managers can never become leaders and why most leaders never achieve the utmost
summit of success. It involves the knack to ace the craft of individuals and knowing how to move
hundreds of individuals at the right place and at the right time. It means to know how each
individual thinks and how to best use their skills properly at all times. It s like playing a continuous
match of chess realizing that each incorrect move can cost the organization thousands of dollars, if
not millions (Llopis, 2012).
All through life, we all like to be made to feel commendable and acknowledged, realizing that our
presence can be a piece of vital

Q1. The correlation between two rival traditions of economic thought by Hunt Lautzenheister and the
great divide in social sciences
Smith s economic theory of economic welfare was, above all else, policy oriented theory. His
principal concern was to ascertain what social and economic forces were most conducive to
increasing human welfare, and, by this, to recommend policies that would best promote human
happiness. Smith s definition of economic well being was quite simple and straightforward.
According to Smith, Economic welfare depends on the amount of the annual produce of labour and
the number of consumers (Hunt 22). In every economy, welfare increases as the composition of
productive output ... Show more content on [Link] ...
The three social classes each received a distinct form of monetary return; rent, wages and profits.
These forms of class income primarily correspond to the three parts of the production costs and
determines the prices of commodities. However, Smith assumed that selfish and acquisitive motives
characterized all economic behaviour despite his admission that in noneconomic behaviour, people
had other motives, including those considered altruistic. The assumption that all economic behaviour
depends on selfish, acquisitive motives was to become the foundation of neoclassical economics
beginning in the late nineteenth century.
Within the context of Smith s theory of history, capitalism represented the highest stage of
civilization, and capitalism would reach its greatest height when in had evolved to a state in which
the government had adopted a laissez faire policy. It allows the forces of competition and the free
interplay of supply and demand to regulate the economy, which would be almost entirely unhindered
by government interventions. According to Smith, the level of production in any society depends on
the number of production labourers and the level of their productivity. Productivity, in turn, depends
on specialization. According to the same scholar, specialization is the greatest improvement in the
productive power of labour, and the greatest part of the skill. In most instances, there exist two
principles that govern the extent of
