An Economy Or Economic System
An economy or economic system consists of the production, distribution or trade, and consumption
of limited goods and services by different agents in a given geographical location. The economic
agents can be individuals, businesses, organizations, or governments. Transactions occur when two
parties agree to the value or price of the transacted good or service, commonly expressed in a certain
currency.
In the past, economic activity was theorized to be bounded by natural resources, labor, and capital.
This view ignores the value of technology, and innovation, especially that which produces intellectual
property.
A given economy is the result of a set of processes that involves its culture, values, education,
technological evolution, history, social organization, political structure and legal systems, as well as
its geography, natural resource endowment, and ecology, as main factors. These factors give context,
content, and set the conditions and parameters in which an economy functions. The largest national
economies by continent are: the United States in the Americas, Germany in Europe, Nigeria in
Africa, China in Asia and Australia in Oceania.
A market based economy is where goods and services are produced without obstruction or
interference, and exchanged according to demand and supply between participants by barter or a
medium of exchange with a credit or debit value accepted within the network, such as a unit of
currency and at some free market or market clearing

The first is a hard retailers that sells appliances, electronics, furniture, sporting goods, etc. The
second is soft retailers that sells clothing and apparel. The major players in this industry include
stores like Macy s, Dillard s, and,on the higher end, Nordstrom s. JCPenney s main competitors
are Macy s and Kohl s. Dillard s and Nordstrom s are smaller and more higher retail value stores.
The top company, using sales as the indicating measure, is Macy s with sales in 2015 of
28,105,000,000, which is followed by Kohl s with sales of 19,023,000,000. In the United States,
their are about 1 million outlets (stores), and numerous amounts of online retailers that sell items to
the public. The demand in this industry is primarily driven by spending and interest rates. Due to
this fact economic health affects consumer confidence and spending. But overall there has been a
consistent trend of sales in the sector as a whole. Overall in the United States, the industry has a
combined revenue of about five trillion dollars. Revenue (in current trading dollars) for retail trade
in the US is to forecasted to grow an annual compounded rate of five percent between 2015 and
2019. In addition, total United States retail sales increased 2.1 percent in the first ten months of 2015
compared to the same period in 2014. While as a whole the industry seems profitable, there are many
challenges that are prominent in this industry. Firstly, many store have uneven cash
Pharmacists and Prescription Drug Abuse
West Virginia has one of the highest rates for prescription drug abuse, and overdose in the nation. In
order to change this it is important to understand what pharmacists do, their role in prevention, and
the severity of prescription drug abuse. Pharmacists are known to dispense prescription drugs to
patients and inform them about their use; However, one aspect of their career most people overlook
is that Pharmacists must keep a sharp eye out for criminals looking to abuse these prescribed drugs.
First, here is some important background information about Pharmacists. A Pharmacistis someone

education, they must complete postsecondary courses such as anatomy, chemistry, and biology. For
most programs, applicants also must take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test, PCAT. The
Pharm.D. program usually takes four years to complete. This program includes courses in medical
ethics and pharmacology. Students will also have the opportunity to have hands on supervised
experiences. After the completion of the program, students must pass two exams. Some jobs may
even require further education and training. Pharmacists who want to run their own Pharmacy
will benefit from getting a masters degree in business. They will spend more time on business
activities such as inventory management when working in the field. Students wanting to hold
advanced pharmacy positions such as a research job must complete a one to two year residency.
The hard work definitely pays off when looking at a Pharmacists salary and job stability, but not
so much when looking at their hours. Like most jobs, the income for Pharmacists varies depending
on factors such as location. Since most Pharmacies are open all hours some pharmacists are forced
to work nights and weekends. Now that we know all about Pharmacists, let s get to know the
problem: prescription drugs. Some prescription drugs have mind altering affects on the body, and
for that reason are abused. People abuse drugs by taking them for reasons other than prescribed by

Fast Forward Through The Dada, De Stijl And Constructivist...
Fast forward through the Dada, De Stijl and Constructivist movements and we hit a brick wall of
boring, conservatist design again until David Carson barrels right through it, of course. Originally a
teacher of all subjects for grades seven through twelve, he enrolled in a two week graphic design
workshop at the University of Arizona, which influenced to this sociology major to change careers
that would lead him to become the primary designer for the 1980 s Grunge movement, though he
states that the movement was happening regardless of him for technology was already advancing
forward. The Grunge movement in graphic design, much like the Futurist s take, was about breaking

He works with whatever limited materials that are given to him and going by his own intuition
and interpretation of what he was seeing before him, he creates his designs. A big part of what I
do has to do with composition...The [idea] is to have a total use of all the elements in order to
come up with solutions.... I am using my intuition, trying to express things I am reading in the
way that makes the most sense to me. It is an important distinction to make that I am not trying to
find what it is they want (Blackwell 133 134). It was never about making something pretty, ugly,
or hard to read he simply wanted the photographs he was using and the text to look more
interesting while still communicating effectively and eliciting an emotional response from the
viewer. Carson has a saying: Don t Mistake Legibility for Communication (Figure 7). As he broke
the barriers for design with the magazine Ray Gun (Figure 8), which he had total freedom with,
he was constantly critiqued that his work never communicated well, if at all. A famous example of
this is the article he designed for Ray Gun on the musician Bryan Ferry, where Carson set the font
for the piece entirely in Zapf Dingbat, for he found the article itself dull and boring (Figure 9). As
Carson says in his Ted Talk, the entire article is there, and you could translate it into something
readable, but it s really not very well written; it...wouldn t be
International Trade Theories That Can Be Analyzed
International Trade Theories

There are a number of different trade theories that can be analyzed in regards to the above
referenced research project, and I will attempt to address the theories I feel that are most relatable to
the question in hand. The first international trade theory I will address is that of Mercantilism.
Historically, mercantilism is defined as
the economic theory that trade generates wealth and is stimulated by the accumulation of profitable
balances, which a government should encourage by means of protectionism . ([Link],
2016) Today it has been suggested that mercantilism is the belief in the benefits of profitable trading;
commercialism, and that it is the basis upon which all future strategic operations made money for
countries in the Asia Pacific.

The next international trade theory to be addressed is the Porter s Diamond, also known as the
National Competitive Advantage. The Porter s Diamond strategy seeks to answer the question of
why a nation achieves international success in a particular industry. (Harvard Business Review,
1990). When analyzing this theory there are number of factors that need to be taken into
consideration, however what is notable is that basic factors such as climate and location are among
those most important. To be more specific, a automobile company wishing to expand into a
different country, would not want their factory to be inland, practically it makes more sense to have
a factory close to port, in order for
Tom Ripley Symbolism
Tom Ripley isn t entirely sure of who he is, taking on the identity of multiple characters to hide
behind a mask of insecurity. We meet him in the beginning of Patricia Highsmith s, The Talented
Mr. Ripley taking on someone else s job as well as pretending to be a well educated well mannered
Princeton graduate. Tom Ripleyhas gotten away with all his frauds, impersonations, and forgeries
until his past comes back to haunt him. His imagination runs wild as he imagines the horrible deeds
he has done manifesting into panic attacks and compulsions. Despite Tom Ripley being an
unlikeable character, he seems to capture the reader s attention by the end of the story. Following
Tom through his insecurities and thoughts, the reader soon realizes that... Show more content on

He shows his clear dislike towards Tom sticking around forever as they travel to San Remo. Toms
desires to become Dickie are evident after this scene as Tom stared at Dickie s closed eyelids. A
crazy emotion of hate, of affection, of impatience and frustration, was swelling in him, hampering
his breathing. He wanted to kill Dickie (Highsmith 95). Toms desire to be accepted clouds his
reasoning as he devises a sinister plan to kill and take over Dickie s life. Through his thoughts,
we find that he cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Morality never plays a part in his
decisions, as he s given a choice; let Dickie live or take his identity. Because of Toms envy of
Dickie s life, he demands his life, most people would just be envious, but not Ripley. He has other
plans. Tom has no ability in making conscientious decisions. When he is faced with people he
dislikes, he thinks that the only reasonable way to deal with them is murder. As his role as Dickie
Greenleaf slowly comes to an end, after too many problems follow him he reflects on going
Premature Infant Stimulation
It is known that then stimulation of infants during the first few months is important for proper
development to take place. Following, we will review the importance of both a stimulating
environment and the need for physical stimulation provided by caregivers.
A lot of emphasis has been placed on physical, mother infant, interaction, but studies have shown
that inanimate stimulation is as important as social stimulation. Yarrow, Rubenstein, Pedersen, and
Jankowski (1972) examined the importance of stimulation from caregiver interaction and the natural
environment. The emphasis of their work was to study the impact of disadvantaged environments on
infant development. What their work did show was that the environment of the infant was just ...

When we look at infants in orphanages in Romania, we find children that are deprived of the
complex physical contact normally received by other children that have a dedicated caregiver. These
children show serious intellectual deficits, and although they show improvement later, they never
catch up to their peers who were raised in more traditional environments (Berk, 2014). When we look
at premature infants, who spend a large amount of their time in incubators, we find that they show
slower gains in mass and motor function then their peers. Now, when premature infants are given 15
minutes of mechanosensory stimulation, three times a day for ten days, they show an increase in
weight along with more time awake and active. They also would show more improvement than their
unstimulated peers based on the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (Ardiel Rankin,
2010)
The effects of stimulation on infant development cannot be understated. The more research that has
gone into the importance of this the more emphasis is placed on attempting to correct sensory
deprivation. In hospital NICUs we see more interaction with children that are born premature. We are
also seeing a greater emphasis on placing orphaned children into homes where they can benefit from
direct caregiver contact and have a more stimulating environment to explore. Now, more than in the
past, we see the need
Perfectionism Vs Perfectionism
The types of exercise(s) and exercise behaviours an individual possesses influence how they view
themselves and how much they enjoy the activity. Individuals participating in an exercise regime
who strive for flawlessness and set high performance standards for themselves is known as
perfectionism. The two dimensions of perfectionism are self oriented perfectionism (SOP) and
socially prescribed perfectionism(SPP). SOP is requiring perfection from oneself, while SPP is
perceiving that others are requiring perfection of oneself. These two dimensions have been
studied together by using a 2x2 model and the subtypes are: non perfectionism (low SPP and low
SOP), pure SPP (high SPP and low SOP), pure SPP (low SPP and high SOP) and mixed
perfectionism (high SPP and high SOP).
Perfectionism has a powerful role in exercise, and researchers have found that greater exercise
behaviours in individuals are associated with more perfectionist traits (Longbottom, 2007). A study
by Gulker, Laskis and Kuba (2001) compared perfectionist traits among excessive and non excessive
exercisers. They wanted to see if excessive exercisers scored higher on obsessive compulsiveness,
body dissatisfaction and drive in thinness than non exercisers. The findings supported the hypothesis
that excessive exercisers had higher rates on measures of perfectionism. This study supports the
impact perfectionism has on the individual in an exercise context.
A study by Gould, Dieffenback and Moffett (2002) was
Ptinue Continued Research
The search for a new anti migraine drug was started by Glaxo in 1972. In the 1960s, studies
showed that vasoconstriction from 5 HT, ergotamine and nor adrenaline could reduce migraine
attacks. Research also showed that platelet 5 HT level reduces during migraine attacks. Many side
effects were associated with the use of 5 HT as a drug and then scientists started research on the
receptors of 5 HT in order to discover and develop a more specific agonist for 5 HT receptors.
Research on the 5 HT receptors and their effect led to discovery of several types and subtypes of 5
HT. AH24167 showed a vasodilatory effect instead of vasoconstrictory due to the agonist effect on
another type of 5 HT receptors later assigned the name 5 HT7. AH25086 was the second compound
developed and showed a vasoconstrictory effect but was not released as a drug due to low per oral
bioavailability.... Show more content on [Link] ...
Clinical trials with subcutaneous sumatriptan showed that 70 80 per cent of patients had reduced
pain by one hour after treatment. Sumatriptan was launched in the subcutaneous formulation in
1991. In subsequent studies of oral sumatriptan 100mg 300mg, around 70 % of patients responded to
treatment within two hours of administration and this led to the launch of 100mg sumatriptan
tablets. Sumatriptan was first launched in the Netherlands in 1991 and became available in the USA
during 1993. In year 2008, Treximet, a combination of sumatriptan and naproxen was approved by
US FDA for the treatment of migraine attacks. This combination has shown better efficacy in
treating migraine attacks over other anti migraine
Domestic Violence Analysis
Safety is a powerful word. It is a word that can be described as the mental emotion of being in a
state of protection. This protection is most commonly provided by a significant other, or a place
where you feel warmth and a sense of security. This place is most commonly called home.
However, this is not always the case. Over half a million Australian women reported that they had
experienced physical or sexual violence in the past 12 months. While this is a substantial amount,
reports reveal that one in three domestic violence victims are male. This proves that there is a
possibility of every one of us being at risk of experiencing domestic violence. Being in a first world
country, we often convince ourselves that our problems are irrelevant... Show more content on

Working in domestic violence, Dennis has focused on the effects of domestic abuse and the way it
impacts the workplace and those around the victim. I have worked to educate business leaders and
others to understand that domestic violence is not just a personal matter in which we should not be
involved; rather it has a profound impact on our ability to get out jobs done, and everyone needs to
see it exists, name it for what it is, and respond appropriately when it occurs . With this statement we
can be assured that Dennis, as a member of the Catholic religion that he believes that everyone needs
to be educated and acknowledge the effects of domestic abuse.
With this in mind Dennis is questioned on what he wishes in regards to how the Catholic Church
should react in response to domestic violence, this was his response. Pastors, priests and Catholic
leaders speak out on this important issue on a regular and continuing basis. Dennis gives suggestions
such as incorporating programs in Catholic schools, this ensures youth to be educated to recognize
the signs of abuse in relationships. This will help their fellow students, parishioners and themselves
to respond appropriately to assure the safety of the victim in a way that is consistent to the Catholic
Cheating In Professional Sports Essay
One thing about sports that everyone agrees on is that they are fun to watch. Another thing that
most agree on is that cheaters get what they deserve. However, the amount of cheating has
increased significantly in professional sports over recent years, thus making them not so fun to
watch by some. Cheating occurs through secret deals, bad trades, and use of drugs to gain a field
advantage, therefore sports that most people have grown to love have become less entertaining, and
more violent to the public. Changes need to be made to professional sports in order to restore it s
former glory.
There has been a lot of athletic scandals in colleges across the country. These scandals have been
as a result of the coaches and athletic directors failing to take the full force of the law and giving
their players freedom to do everything even if it is against the law. One of these fatal scandals is the
Baylor University Basketball scandal that occurred in 2003. This scandal involved the players and
the coaches of the team. The incident left one player dead and the other imprisoned for 35 years. The
team was subjected to a lot of punishment by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
The NCAA is a non profit organization comprised of 1281 institutions, organizations, individuals and
conferences and that organizes the athletic programs of most of the colleges and universities in the
United States and Canada (The New York Times, 2003).
