The Landscape Of A Karst Landscape
A karst landscape is an area composed of soluble rock conventionally composed of limestone,
which is withal kenned as calcium carbonate or simply chalk (dolomite, and gypsum are other
types of rock featured in karst landscapes). Limestone is a sedimentary rock which is made from
the remains of micro skeletons and shells compressed together into a solid. Since limestone is
composed in layers kenned as bedding planes, these layers have cracks sanctioning dihydrogen
monoxide to seep in. When rainwater seeps into the limestone cracks, it gradually erodes it due to its
carbonic acid which reacts with the limestone.
Karst landscapes feature underground drainage systems, underground caves, underground streams,
caves and sinkholes on the surface ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Of California s 7,000 plant species, about 50% occur in the Sierra Nevada and more than 20% within
Yosemite. There is a congruous habitat for more than 160 recherché plants in the park, with
recherché local geologic formations and unique soils characterizing the restricted ranges many of
these plants occupy.
The geology of the Yosemite area is characterized by granitic rocks and remnants of older rock.
About 10 million years ago, the Sierra Nevada was uplifted and then tilted to compose its relatively
gentle western slopes and the more dramatic eastern slopes. The uplift incremented the steepness of
stream and river beds, resulting in formation of deep, narrow canyons. About 1 million years ago,
snow and frozen dihydrogen monoxide accumulated, composing glaciers at the higher alpine
meadows that moved down the river valleys. Frozen dihydrogen monoxide thickness in Yosemite
Valley may have reached 4,000 feet (1,200 m) during the early glacial episode. The downslope
kinetics of the frozen dihydrogen monoxide masses cut and sculpted the U shaped valley that
magnetizes so many visitors to its scenic vistas today.
The Xiaozhai Tiankeng, additionally kenned as the Heavenly Pit, is the world s deepest sinkhole. It is
located in Fengjie County in Chongqing Municipality. The Xiaozhai Tiankeng is considered as a
karst landscape because it has been composed by erosion of rock which caused a massive sinkhole
to occur from the ground
Political Socialization Is A Particular Type Of Political...
Political Socialization is a particular type of political learning where people develop the attitudes,
values, beliefs, opinions and behaviors that are conducive to becoming a good citizen in their
country. With political socialization there are many factors that are present when these views are
formed, many are very apparent like historical events, and a clear effect such as gender, race, and
socio economics status. My own political views were formed the same way as everybody else were.
Through the first people I came to know, which were my parents. My parents taught me what the
difference between a democrat and a republican were, what role the president plays in our
government, and about our legislative branches which was based around their own views. When
growing up my parents encouraged self respect and individuality so, this taught me to think about
things own my own and how I felt about them. They also taught me how to conduct myself on a
day to day basis. Being taught these things by my parents made me a very open minded person and
this carries over strongly into how I view politics. I tend to focus on the single issues that are on the
forefront and not on which party is proposing them.

This process could be perceived as Good because of the many factors

That are involved in our political culture. Family, education, mass media, and religion are just a few
of the roles that are used in political socialization.

Stephanie Foote s Little Women
Louisa May Alcott s Little Women is a realistic coming of age story. Although considered a novel
of realism, critics today are still debating over the theme of gender roles. One critic, Elizabeth
Thomason, praises the novel for challenging assumptions on gender roles while another critic,
Stephanie Foote, criticizes Little Women for the heavily domestic depiction of womanhood. Little
Women focuses on several characters who possess qualities that stand in stark contrast to characters
of other mid nineteenth century novels. For example, Jo March dreams of being able to support
[her]self and help the girls, illustrating her desire to support the family although this task was
reserved for men (Alcott 278). She displays her eagerness to be independent... Show more content on

She believes the novel tells its readers that women must not...act on negative emotions (Foote 2).
However, it is evident that multiple scenes of the novel contradict Foote s claim and instead
showcase how Alcott challenges assumptions on gender roles. For instance, Marmee March
stresses that it is better to be happy old maids than unhappy wives (Alcott 171). By advising her
daughters that they should not feel obligated to find husbands, but should seek fulfillment on their
own, Marmee emphasizes that a home can be run successfully without a man supporting it. Here,
it is evident that Marmee displays her frustration towards society s limited role of women. Unlike
Foote s claim, it is clear that Marmee acted on negative emotions towards the designated roles of
women. In addition, Alcott s stance on gender roles is apparent through Meg March s refusal to
perform her expected gender roles. Meg laments that she is too used up to exert [her]self for
anyone and is tired of being subservient to her husband John Brooke (Alcott 486). Her attitude
clearly discredits Foote because she is capable of displaying her distress and does not let her gender
limit her voice. Although Stephanie Foote asserts that the novel stressed the restrictions of women,
the novel actually does the exact opposite; Alcott displays that women
Stabilization Of The Atlantoaxial Complex
Background:
Several surgical techniques have been described for stabilization of the atlantoaxial complex. Each
technique differs in its biomechanical properties, advantages and disadvantages. In this series, we
describe our experience with a combined four point fixation technique that combines C1 C2
transarticular with C1 lateral mass fixation for atlanto axial instability.

Methods:
We present a single center retrospective case series of thirty patients who were surgically treated for
atlantoaxial instability over one decade. All patients presented with symptoms and signs of atlanto
axial instability and consequently underwent extensive clinical and radiological evaluation prior to
surgery.

The median follow up of our cohort was ... Show more content on [Link] ...

Ranawat scores improved following surgery in 8/26 (30.7%) patients, did not change in 17 (65.4%)
patients, and worsened in only one patient (3.8%). Like the VAS score, improvement in Ranawat
score following surgery was significant (p=0.02) in paired analysis. All patients post operative
imaging confirming stability of the construct.

Complications in this series included two unilateral intraoperative vertebral artery injuries associated
with placement of C1 C2 transarticular screws, another patient had worsening C2 pain following
surgery, and three patients had numbness in the C2 distribution following the procedure.
Radiologically, two patients had suboptimal unilateral C2 screw placement despite satisfactory
intraoperative fluoroscopic imaging (Figure 4). In both patients the construct was stable in dynamic
views as the proximal portion of the transarticular screw functioned as a C2 pars interarticularis
screw (figure X). There were no post operative infections (Table1).

The Water Diviner Analysis
Pravin Baliah s film of choice for the Australian film board

Film: The Water Diviner

Good morning fellow members of the Australian Film Board.

As you know we are looking for a film to be an outstanding representation of the social values, beliefs
and/or events that contribute or have contributed to the cultural identity of our country.

As a member of the Board, I have viewed several excellent Australian films. The film I have chosen
is The Water Diviner. It is about one of the ordinary Australian bloke with a broken heart relying on
a weathered charm and never say die spirit to fight against impossible odds. The film director is
Russell Crowe. It was released on December 26 of 2014. The film takes place in Turkey after World

Typically, this is adversity, environmental hardships and lack of personal recognition. Aussie
battler is a term of respect and endearment intended to empower and recognise those who feel as
though they exist at the bottom of society. This term has seen recently used in mainstream
politics to describe a demographic section of the Australian people . In the film one could see this
in multiple places as in the case of 3 brothers even though they are unimportant and insignificant
to the overall war but still the dad and some of the other characters cared about them to go
through thousands of dead bodies to find them. Dad went into so much trouble by travelling from
Australia to Turkey and asked for permission to travel to Gallipoli but it was denied to him.
Hence, he paid a fisherman to get him to Gallipoli on boat. When he reached there, he asked other
Australian and Turkey soldiers to help him to find his three sons bodies but nobody was interested.
One soldier asked why should anyone waste their time to look for an insignificant person s son.
Then another soldier said that he was the only father who came looking for his sons! Therefore
everyone joined in help finding the
Taking a Look at the Pauline Epistles
The Pauline epistles are very crucial to the understanding of how a church and a Christian should
act. Throughout all the letters, different subjects have been touched creating almost a guide of
how to s . The farewell is especially important as noted in Second Corinthians 13 explains the
depth of God s love to the people and the wrath of doubtfulness. since you are demanding proof
that Christ is speaking though me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you
(13:3). With corrections in the beginning of the letter, or a defense towards Paul s teachings, shows
the continuation of the struggle of Corinth, yet they were doing better as spoken by Titus. Paul s
final request towards the people of Corinth is found in his second letter (2 Corinthians). The last
chapter however is similarly a conclusion, or overview of the letter. Although there are some
differences throughout the translations, Paul s final message/warning is evident and clear. The
passage is split up into two or three sections, depending on the translation used. Within the New
King James Version (NKJ), the breakdown is evident by how the paragraphs are structured to set
apart main ideas. Verses 1 4 are thought of as the reminder of what s Paul s message entailed. No
matter the translation Paul quotes Deuteronomy 19:15, One witness shall not rise against a man
concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the
matter shall be established (NKJ; 2
Steve Jobs Influence
Steve Jobs: A Inspiring and Influential Businessman
The iPod, iPad, iMac, and iPhone all share one thing in common other than their elegant design.
Their creator, Steve Jobs, oversaw the creation of many of these extremely personal and innovative
electronics. He thought of technology and devices we did not know we needed or wanted because
we never knew they existed. Although he was often called crazy, but his different ideas and
rebelling personality drove him beyond what many expected of him as he built Apple and other
companies. Steve Jobs is most admired for his co founding of Apple and NeXT, as well as his
involvement in Pixar.
Jobs is best known for his career at Apple, a company recognized for its beautifully designed

one hundred thousand dollars just to have NeXT s logo created. (Lakin 118). NeXT was not the
only company he would become involved in, and Jobs bought Pixar Animation Studios from
George Lucas ( Steve Jobs ). He was fascinated with the relationship between their software and
hardware, and most of all Pixar s software amazed him . Most importantly, he took Pixar in a
different direction, allowing it to become a much more influential, himself a much more influential
person as well. Jobs and Pixar would go on to send shockwaves through the entire [animation]

filmmakers and what they could achieve (Lakin
The Impact Of The International Style In Art And Deco...

Rhetorical Devices In Brutus s Speech
SPEECHES: Brutus vs Antony
Julius Caesar: Act 3, Scene 2
Caesar s funeral is a key point in the play and is dominated by long speeches by Brutus and Antony.
Because the speeches are long and challenging, it is best to view, re view, read, and analyze.

Paraphrasing Brutus Speech

Paraphrase Brutus speech at Caesar s funeral. In this speech, Brutus explains why he had to kill
Caesar. He quickly convinces the people that he did the right and honorable thing.

Brutus, in his speech, tries to convince people of rome that Caesar should be killed for their own
safety and protection.

View and read Antony s speech

Discuss Antony s persuasive techniques repetition, rhetorical question, etc
Antony used rhetorical questions to help himself seem more persuasive because it caught the
attention of the audience. The people in the audience were to think to themselves when the rhetorical
questions were asked.
How does he gain support of the people?
Antony speaks about Caesar s will and his intentions with the Roman Empire.
Write a fully developed paragraph (12 sentences long; at least two direct quotes) comparing Antony s
and Brutus speeches and explain why Antony s speech is more effective.
At Caesar s funeral, the people are moved by Brutus speech, however, they find Antony far more
convincing. Antony used rhetorical questions and that resulted in the crowd to think and get to
their emotions. Brutus, on the other hand, continues on and talks about why Caesar s
assassination occurred. Antony mentions what Caesar has done for Romans. Caesar s will,
however, was what mainly caught people s attention. Antony was begged by the crowd to read it.
Eventually, the will is read to them. Antony s use of rhetorical questions and reading Caesar s
will are two reasons why his speech was more effective. Brutus speech wasn t as effective because
all he did was talk about why Caesar s assassination occurred and tried to prove to people that he still
had love for Caesar. He wanted to show that he was
