Irish Music
Celtic Irish Music

Name

Institutional Affiliation

Celtic music is a broad group of music genres that have emerged from the native folk music
traditions of people of Western Europe, such as the Irish. Throughout history, Ireland has been
associated with music. Irish music history dates back over 2000 years when the Celts arrived in
Ireland. Irish clerics are known for writing some of the earliest folk songs. One of the twelve
disciples of Ireland, St Columcille (521 5797 AD), described that the clerics of Ireland had the
ability to sing like birds . Irish music has remained vibrant in this 21st century having gained global
recognition. This is unlike most European countries that have lost their native folk songs. ... Show

Before the 17th century, harpists were professional musicians and the use harps was at its height. At
the time, Ireland was ruled by Chieftains, who also employed the use of harps in Irish songs. Irish
tradition was steady and secure. However, at the beginning of the seventeenth century, Ireland was
invaded forced the Chieftains to flee the country. The Irish music tradition suffered a massive blow
as harp playing was not considered as a profession anymore. The professional harpists became known
as travelling harpists. Decades after the Chieftains fled Ireland after the first invasion, Ireland was
colonized by the British. The British government introduced laws aimed at crushing the Irish culture
and introducing the British culture. There was a penal law that forbade any cultural activities. These
laws saw the significant suppression of the growth of Irish culture.

In the 1840 s, Ireland suffered a great famine. This led to the death of more than one million
people, subsequently, most of the Irish tradition died with them. The famine also saw a significant
migration of people over the world in a desperate measure to stay alive. This led to a devastating
factor in the Irish traditional music. However, a good dead came out of this emigration. When the
Irish fled the famine and settled elsewhere, they introduce the Irish music in that new place. The
traditional Irish music network grew especially in places like USA and Australia. The music
The Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing For Humans
Needles have punctured your skin, and you ve drawn in an unknown gas so now you re in panic
and fear invades you. You are a creature, a mouse, who is being used for scientific experiments. The
people who are doing the experiments have taken advantage of your ability to not being able to fight
back and all you can do is wish for something to change. For centuries people have been using
animals to experiment on, although there are benefits there are also problems. While people in the
cosmetic industry learn to not use the creatures, what are scientists doing? Animals have been forced
into suffering from experiments they unwillingly went into and we need to slow down on our use of
the creatures without completely eliminating the experiments at once.
Science experiments are usually done to test a hypothesis, usually to benefit people. Science
experiments have been done for centuries and because of them we have the things we use today,
which include some medications. In order to test the medication, scientists used animals instead of
making people try it on their own. The animals are said to be the closest things we have similar to
the human body so we need them in order to test the product. Since we are experimenting on
animals, it is a heated argument on whether we should continue or put an end to the testing. Animals
are being used to test the hypothesis to benefit mankind, despite the arguments about the use of the
creatures.
Animal testing has many pros and we have reasons
A Summary Of Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief
The movie Rudy and the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief they have many things in
common, like they both have a hero. But first, what is a hero. What is a hero s journey. What stages
in the hero can you compare contrast on in the movie Rudy and the book Percy Jackson and the
Lightning Thief. What is a hero? A hero doesn t have to be a person that saves your life by carrying
a building that is about to fall on you. A hero can be a person that is considered a role model to
one or more people. A hero is someone who has heroic qualities such as bravery and courage, but
they also make sacrifice for the greater good and put other people before themselves. Heroes are
important for society, because it gives people the hope that there is someone there in the world
that can help people in need. In the movie Rudy, Rudy always wanted to play for Notre Dame, but
he is very small, but he still worked hard and in the end he got to play in a game. Many people in
the movie, like the coach, said, Why can t you be more like Rudy ,and You could be amazing if
only you had a tenth of the heart of Rudy. Percy Jackson is considered is because he saves many
lives, and he went from a zero to hero. All heroes need to have gone on a journey, big or small. All
journeys have an ultimate goal at the end of it, that is called the ultimate boon. For Rudy, the
ultimate boon was playing a football game for Notre Dame, and his journey was getting to that
point. For Percy, the ultimate boon was, a bit more saving the world than being on a football team.
Percy had to find Zeus Master Bolt, and then return it to Zeus in a limited amount of time. If he didn
t return it, his father Poseidon and Zeus would go into war the world would destroy itself. In a hero s
journey, the stages are split into 3 groups, the departure, the initiation, and the return. Also, the
journey have many stages in them. In this journey, all the heroes have different goals. The journey
changes the initiate, physically and/or mentally, to the point where these changes change the initiate
into a hero. The hero s journey is a common idea in all cultures, because all cultures have heroes and
all heroes have a journey. Everybody takes this journey no matter
A Report On Tom s Family
Earlier in the year I was contacted by a secondary school as they were concerned about one of
their students, 14 year old Tom* (*not his real name). Tom was physically and verbally abusive
at both home and school, and was displaying disturbing behaviours. Tom had high absentees and
was fixated with electronic devices, regularly accessing inappropriate websites. Recently Tom s
cat was found dead with a broken neck and covered in blood. Tom s version of the story was that
he tripped over the cat and fell on it. The school were seeking advice on how to help Tom.
Previous to the visit I read Tom s medical reports. According to the paediatrician, Tom s mother
stated she had a normal pregnancy. Tom was breast fed and a good baby . He... Show more content

These issues are prevalent during adolescence years (Van Der Horst, Der Veer Van Rosmalen,
2016). Adolescence is a time of emotional, cognitive and physical development as the adolescent
moves from being a child to an adult (Carr, Eshkevari Kosky, 1991). Erikson (1968) believed that
adolescence is a time of identity crisis. As the adolescent moves from childhood to adulthood they
experiment with different identities until they form an identity which is their true self. This is
known as identity formation (Becht, Branje, Denissen, Koot, Meeus, Nelemans Vollebergh, 2016).
Adolescents require a secure attachment and a safe family unit (or equivalent) in order to work
through the turmoil of adolescence. The journey of self identity is based on who the adolescent
was in the past and the present. If the adolescent had a secure attachment in the past, they are able
to move from identity crisis to identity formation in the present and develop into a health adult.
However, if the past had no loving or safe environment for the adolescent, the adolescent has no
one in the present to help them set limits or give directions (Markland Nelson, 1994). This
appeared to be the case with Tom. As Tom s mother is mentally ill, it would be safe to assume Tom
s needs are not currently met, nor were they met in the past. Maladaptive parenting affects a child s
coping mechanism, trust and self worth (Markland Nelson, 1994). A neglected child has no choice

Ice Hockey in Canada Essay
Ice Hockey in Canada

Ice hockey has in the last hundred years evolved to become international. Canada is in jeopardy of
losing its six teams. Tradition run deep in all of the cities and also professional hockey teams
create thousands of jobs and help out in the communities. Teams in the Canadian market are having
trouble keeping their programs in the black because of higher taxes and a weaker Canadian dollar.
In order for professional hockey teams in Canada not to relocate to United States, it is necessary for
Ottawa to provide tax cuts for them. Professional hockey has been around in Canada for over one
hundred years. Tradition runs deep in programs like the Toronto Maple Leaf s and Montreal
Canadians, which have been located in ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Seemingly, everyone recognizes that in Canada, Hockey is King (c1).
These teams have made a home for themselves in their towns and if these two franchises are up
rooted from their communities they may not be gained much of an advantage even with the lower
taxes (Dryden 2).
One of the fundamental problems with Canadian hockey teams competing with their American
counterparts is that Canadian teams pay all of the player s salaries and travel are in American
currency. However, all the revenue from ticket sales, concessions and advertising is in Canadian
currency. American teams have an advantage over their Canadian counterparts because all the
money that was created from ticket sales, concessions and selling advertising is one third more
than what Canadian teams will make. This is because of a weaker Canadian dollar, 69 cents to
one American dollar, means that Canadian franchises will always make one third less from basic
franchise profits as long as the Canadian dollar stays the same. The teams are among Canada s
fewest businesses that pay most of their salaries and expenses in U.S. dollars out of revenue
earned in depressed Canadian dollars (May p 2). This is a problem because the weaker Canadian
dollar makes it harder for these franchises to run day to day operations (Duhatschek 7). The result is
The Motor Effect
2.1 Motors use the effect of forces on current carrying conductors in magnetic fields

2.1.1 The motor effect

The motor effect is where a force acts on a current carrying conductor in a magnetic field.
The right hand palm rule is used to find certain properties: fingers point to magnetic field, thumb
points in DC direction and palm points to direction of the force.
2.1.2 Factors affecting the force acting on the current carrying conductor Forces are experienced by
the electrons in the conductor and are affected by: * Length of conductor (longer conductor means
more electrons hence more electrons experiencing the force) * Strength of magnetic field (more
force on electrons) * Amount of current in conductor (more current ... Show more content on

ie there is a change of magnetic flux through a circuit. Faraday s experiment: Connect a coil of many
turns to a zero centered galvanometer. Move a small magnet in and out of the coil and we can
observe a small current is produced when the magnet is moved but no current when there was no
movement. By varying the speed (relative motion) of the movement and strength of magnet, the
galvanometer flickered more therefore more current produced. Distance also affects this.
2.2.2 Magnetic field strength and magnetic flux density Magnetic flux density (B) is a measure of
the number of lines of force per unit area. It is also equivalent to the strength of the magnetic field
and is measured in Weber (Wb)
2.2.3 Magnetic flux Magnetic flux (φ) is a measure of the number of lines of force emerging
through an area. It is the product of magnetic flux density and area : φ=BA measured in Webers (Wb)
2.2.4 Size of the induced emf The induced emf is proportional to the rate of change of magnetic flux
through the circuit.
2.2.5 Len s Law Len s law: the direction of the induced emf is such that it opposes the change that
produced it. Len s law is a consequence of the law of conservation of energy because if the induced
emf aided the motion, then the conductor would accelerate causing a greater emf, which would
cause further acceleration, etc ... an infinite amount of energy would be created.

Bertrand Russell Rhetorical Analysis
Bertrand Russell argues that we should worship our good instinct, moral insights rather than
worshiping the evil god. He says we should create our own ideals and worship them. Russell
explains that worshiping our ideals gives us true freedom. As he says, in determination to worship
only the god created by our own love of the good, to respect only the heaven which inspires the
insight of our best moments (pg.51). I disagree with Russell s argument because worshiping our
insights does not reflect reality. Our personal ideals are not realistic. This paper will examine Russell
s arguments of his position of worshipping our good instincts rather than the universal power through
his idea of freedom, human virtue and by turning indignation to resignation. The second part of this
paper will critically analyze Russell s position.

Bertrand Russell is concerned with people, whom he calls savages worshipping the universal power.
These savages respect the power more than themselves because they find the power greater than
anything they see in themselves. Their thoughts and beliefs are of those the power devours. Russell
suggests that we should question whether the universal power deserves this respect. Russell
concludes that we must follow our very own good instinct, which will bring us true freedom rather
than the universal evil power. As he says, the vision of beauty is possible only to unfettered
contemplation, to thoughts not weighted by the load of eager wishes (pg.52).
Against Surveillance
There are two values conflicting each other: national security and privacy of human rights. A
controversial issue with those two values has got a lot of attention from the world. We found a case
reflecting our topic; Snowden case. In that case indiscriminate surveillance were revealed by a man
from inside. Some criticize him, but some support him. Through debates we have been at against
indiscriminate surveillance. Surveillance by intelligence agencies violates human rightsbecause of
over controlling, intended fear by government, and privacyas noble value.
Nowadays we are against over control violating the civil rights and becoming hidden from public
monitoring beyond the genuine purpose what it was created for: To protect the population from
terrorist attacks Greenwald (2015). US is one of the countries that more overcontrolling generates
over its citizens own and foreign people across the world. They started surveillance programs, with
the aims to gather tremendous amount of information and conduct surveillance ... Show more content

(Cyber privacy? or cyber surveillance? Legal responses to fear in cyberspace, 2014) There are
two kinds of surveillance, one military security. It mindset leads to the perception of cyberspace as
militarised space and application of notions such as cyber war. Another one is liberal security;
mindset generates a more balance approach to the needs of national security, versus the privacy of
individual. Also, it illustrates an issue which is taking children s photography at school could cause

Surveillance make citizens sleep with eyes open, they fear about governments steal their privacy.
