Initial Public Offering
An initial public offering (IPO) is the process through which a privately held company issues
shares of stock to the public for the first time. Also known as going public, an IPO transforms a
small business from a privately owned and operated entity into one that is owned by public
stockholders. An IPO is a significant stage in the growth of many small businesses, as it provides
them with access to the public capital market and also increases their credibility and exposure.
Becoming a public entity involves significant changes for a small business, though, including a loss
of flexibility and control for management. In many cases, however, an IPO may be the only means
left of financing growth and expansion. The decision to go public is... Show more content on

A related advantage is that the public company may have enhanced credibility with its suppliers,
customers, and lenders, which may lead to improved credit terms.
Yet another advantage of going public involves the ability to use stock in creative incentive
packages for management and employees. Offering shares of stock and stock options as part of
compensation may enable a small business to attract better management talent, and to provide them
with an incentive to perform well. Employees who become part owners through a stock plan may be
motivated by sharing in the company s success. Finally, an initial public offering provides a public
valuation of a small business. This means that it will be easier for the company to enter into mergers
and acquisitions, because it can offer stock rather than cash.
Disadvantages of Going Public
The biggest disadvantages involved in going public are the costs and time involved. Experts note
that a company s management is likely to be occupied with little else during the entire IPO process,
which may last as long as two years. The small business owner and other top managers must prepare
registration statements for the SEC, consult with investment bankers, attorneys, and accountants, and
take part in the personal marketing of the stock. Many people find this to be an
Salt Lake City Case Summary
In the implement section, we have three recommendations for this company. First, Company
should find more suppliers. From the interview notes, we think that company orders are
unreasonable since company s large bulk orders are placed by Chinese suppliers, media material
is bought from local suppliers, and rush orders are placed from California. Company should build
a good business relationship with local Salt Lake City suppliers and buy rush order from them
instead of California. Thus, company could save a lot of costs of shipping and time. We supposed
that company bought rush orders from California because of two reasons: cheaper price and supply
of goods in plenty. Cheaper price could be understanding easily that California suppliers accept
Napoleon s Campaign In Egypt
Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political leader who significantly influenced
European history. Born in Corisca on August 15th 1769, Napoleon first rose to prominence as a
general in the French Revolution (Hutt, 4). With his strength of will, character, application, and
daring (Napoleon) characteristics, Captain Bonaparte made a name for himself. Staging a coup d
etat in late 1799, Napoleon managed to install himself as First Consul and within three years, as
Consul for life (Hutt, 3 4). Ultimately, Napoleon s military background and cunning character led
him to become a self crowned emperor of Francebeginning in 1804(Dziewanowski, 90). Under
Napoleon s new military dictatorship, many of the French Revolution s reforms... Show more content

However, of the scholars and civilians amongst Napoleon s expeditionary force many managed to
greatly influence modern understanding of Egyptian culture and language, marking a great historical
achievement. Enough information and knowledge was collected during Napoleon s campaign by his
collection of scholars and artists to complete generations of encyclopedias (Rosensweig, 1).
With his troops at hand, Napoleon set out for Egypt hoping to undermine Britain s access to India
while gaining more land and extensive knowledge. On his way to Egypt, Napoleon conquered
Malta and left approximately 3000 of his crewman there (Hutt, 27). After departing from Malta,
Napoleon arrived on the coast of Alexandria on July 1st and encountered his first battle on
Egyptian soil against the Mamelukes, fearsome warriors that ruled Egypt in the name of the
Turkish sultan (Hutt, 28). Within a day, Napoleon s forces managed to conquer the opposing army
with its outstanding military tactics. Napoleon organized his infantry within small hollow square
formations that faced four directions, allowing his army to repel attacks coming from either side
(Dziewanowski, 91). This tactic and Napoleon s military leadership helped the French army to
defeat this much larger army. However, the celebration of victory was not long lasted as the British
Royal Navy captured all but two of
Holden Caulfield Antihero
Introduction
Literary Critic Northup Frye wrote vastly on the evolution of heroism. He observed that in the early
days of human civilization our heroes in literature were virtually gods, and as civilization progresses
they became more human, more flawed, and less heroic. From the divine heroes like Odysseus and
Hercules, to the extraordinary but mortal heroes such as Achilles, the phenomenal leaders including
King Arthur and the great but tragically flawed heroes such as, Macbeth or Oedipus. Further from
the archetype of heroism are the unlikely but, eventual heroes such as Harry Potter, until we reach
the notion of the anti hero. Contrary to the sound, the antihero is not the antagonist or the villain but,
in fact the main character in some ... Show more content on [Link] ...
At the end of the novel Catcher in the Rye, Phoebe typically corrects her brother s misquotation of
a poem: Holden recites if a body catch a body comin through the rye to which Phoebe corrects It s If
a body meet a body... (269). In the confused rye fields of life, the protagonist seeks to catch people,
and in revulsion Holden imagines catching all the innocent children to protect them from
destruction. I know it s crazy admits Holden, who suffers from a nervous breakdown at the end of
the novel (273). In his confusion, Holden s true motivations are exposed from his veil of lies and
readers understand his actions as a hero desperately seeking truth in a world that does not possess
sufficient humanity to make the search for humanity dramatically
The Compensation Of Chief Executive Officers Essay
Introduction The compensation of chief executive officers and the methodology used to
determine it has become a major topic of debate in the business world. Many people wonder not
only why and how it has gotten to be so high, but also why it isn t distributed amongst other major
contributors inside the company, or even amongst the lower ranks of the workforce via an
increase in wage rates. One of the more recent theories that provides an explanation to the
increase in the pay of chief executive officers is the size of firms relative to earlier years in
business development. Xavier Gabaix (2006, p. 50), states that his, central equation predicts that
a CEOs equilibrium pay is increasing with both the size of his firm and the size of the average
firm in the economy. This theory discusses largely that as the scope of the economy increases, it
is only natural that CEOs be compensated at a higher rate. The reasoning behind this is that the
CEOs are managing companies of higher value, and thus are in theory putting more work and
effort into their companies as well. Based off this theory, it makes complete sense to do this.
However, I have set out to see if I can discover any other concrete reasoning behind these often
astronomical salaries, and if so, determine if this reasoning is useful in determining salaries across
a wide range of industries and structures of very successful publicly traded companies. One of the
main reasons I wanted to take a look at both
Scientists-Skeptics
The standard way of thinking about the truly phenomenal issue of Climate Change is represented by
the idea of danger and damage caused by this change in the nature. However, a number of scientists
skeptics have recently suggested that consideration of climate change as a significant and destructive
problem is scarcely relevant and rather groundless.

According to R. Lindzen (2016), there are two already mentioned groups of science persons:
scientists from the United Nation s International Panel on Climate Change or IPCC and skeptics
whom the narrator belongs to. These people present two opposite points of view on the issue of
climate change, it s importance and reasons of appearance. The first group emphasizes that global
warming is a considerable and serious problem which everybody should take into account. In other
words, these scientists believe that burning of fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas is the
major reason for climate change as well as CO2 s penetration into the atmosphere. However, the
second group represented by scientists skeptics offers an alternative and apparently assumes that
there are many reasons for climate change: the sun, clouds, oceans, orbital variations of the Earth and
other inputs. They ... Show more content on [Link] ...
The danger to people caused by these topics has enhanced considerably over the last decades, and
governments should place emphasis on these problematic issues. Climate change is still a
controversial question, while the already mentioned problems have plenty of empirical evidences
of the ongoing crisis caused by these issues. So, if group of scientists skeptics is right that climate
change is not as dangerous as some people try to position it, as I think they are, then we need to
reassess the popular assumption that changes in nature are the primary problem for the

I discussed with Christine, the impact of trauma on substance use and using a Feminist lens explored
how alcohol abuse relates to women. I supported Christine in understanding the reason women use,
issues related to shame and stigma for women that are parenting and substance involved and how
alcohol use affected parenting. Anti oppressive social workinfluenced my decision to arrange a case
conference to ensure Christine was involved in her treatment and was able to voice her needs.
Christine was able to voice her desire to use alcoholsocially and felt understood as her CAS worker

11). Christine was disadvantaged because of her geographic location and disadvantaged by her sex,
her education and her socio economic level. Payne (2014) calls this an emancipatory approach to
social work.
According to Payne (2014), an empowerment view of social work would empathize the
importance of helping people lead a more fulfilling life by developing their skills and personal
relationships (p. 10). In working with Christine, I tried to support her with coping skills to deal
with her depression and anxiety which in turn might assist her in not self medicating with alcohol.
Using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach, I was able to help her be aware of how she
used alcohol to deal with her pain and circumstances and how the alcohol use increased her pain and
negative circumstances. By using these coping skills, she was able to reduce her dependency on
alcohol; thereby improving her relationships with her family and friends.
Ethical Considerations There are a number of ethical concerns that arose in the case. To begin
with, while I did not live in Christine s home town, I did live in the County which means that there
were a number of individuals that we both knew. While I was not personally involved with any of
these crossover relationships, it was something that I felt I needed to be cognizant of. I felt that it
was necessary for me to be diligent in ensuring that I maintain privacy and confidentiality as well as

Argumentative Essay On Homelessness In Australia
The issue of homelessness in regard to shelter in Australia has been prevalent for an extended period
of time in the 21st century. Homelessness is the situation in which individuals are unable to attain a
permanent and adequate quality of shelter. Shelter is a human right as stated under article 25 of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which specifies Housing as part of the standard of living
required for an individual to maintain their wellbeing. Australia s law specifies no legal right to
shelter, however as a party of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
(ICESCR), the Australian government must recognise that all individuals should be entitled to an
adequate standard of living for themself and their family , where one criteria is adequate housing as
stated in article 11. It is imperative that in order to fulfil both Australia s obligation to uphold human
rights and maintain social cohesion within society both legal and non legal responses are effective in
dealing with both the causes and effects of homelessness.
Homelessness is an issue which stems from a large range of external factors which by themselves
are difficult to address. One such contemporary factor in NSW regarding homelessness is the
affordability of adequate shelter with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting the median price in
Sydney to be $1.15 million. This has made it harder for individuals to afford homes which are
adequate as per the requirements of article 11
