Dependency on Technology in a Modern World
Dependency on Technology in a Modern World
Introduction
Technology has virtually defined the human condition since the early stages in the species
evolution. First there were rudimentary tools such as arrows and hammering utensils which
allowed humans a far great range in manipulating their environment. Further developments such as
fire, clothing, and shelter and so on changed the way humans lived and every aspect of their lives.
Today s societies have more advanced tools such as a laptop, IPod, GPS, cell phone, a seemingly
infinite number of other gizmos and gadgets that shape their lives. This essay will question whether
these devices will add to our wellbeing and improve our lives or if the development of technology
has hit a threshold point in which further developments are of little practical value or even of
negative consequence.
Communications
Of all the advancements in technology from its inception, the advancement in communication has to
be one of the most revolutionary forces that have come about. People now can communicate with
nearly anyone else in the world for very little cost and instantaneously through a variety of
mediums. People are free to move around the globe and never lose contact with the people that they
care about. Students can live video chat with other student half way around the world and can even
form interactive classrooms with a wide range of participants. Professors can record a lecture that
can be hosted on a site for anyone to

following several strategies, by expanding their growth. It is one of the top international English
football clubs, under Louis Van Gaal s management, Manchester United (2014g), This Analysis
will be structured around three tasks to cover the external factors , internal factors and the
challenges analysing MU, using the strategic tools. The following figure shows MU structure:
Task 1: This analysis will look over the external environment affecting the strategic behavior and
internal choices for Manchester united (MU) as the unit of analysis, using Porter s Five forces.
Bargaining Power of buyers MU main customers are categorized in main five categories, which
are Premier League, Nike, UEFA, Aon and General Motors (Chevrolet) , representing 51.1%,
45.5% and 50.1% of MU total revenue in each of the years ended June 2014, 2013 and 2012,
respectively as published by MU (2014a). Buyer volume upon successful times are high as MU

Wrong Site, Wrong Procedure, and Wrong Patient Errors Essay
The purpose of this paper is to identify a quality safety issue. I will summarize the impact that this
issue has on health care delivery. In addition, I will identify quality improvement strategies. Finally, I
will share a plan to effectively implement this quality improvement strategy.
Quality and Safety Issue
Wrong site, wrong procedure, and wrong patient errors are avoidable safety issues. Nearly 1.9
trillion dollars are spent on medical errors each year in the United States (Catalano Fickenscher,
2008). Between 1995 and 2007, 691 wrong site surgeries have been reported to The Joint
Commission s Sentinel Event data repository (AHC Media LLC, 2008). In 2003 in response to the
outcry for better patient safety The Joint Commission ... Show more content on [Link] ...
It has been developed over the years and is now known as Universal Protocol.
Impact on Health Care Delivery
Wrong site surgery remains the most frequently reported sentinel event, with 908 wrong site
surgeries reported since 1995 (AORN, 2010). During the late 1990 s and early 2000 s there was a
tremendous public concern and lack of trust for the medical profession, especially within surgical
services. We as healthcare professionals needed to step up to the plate, slow down, and take
responsibility to improve the quality of care we provide for our patients. Although there still is some
resistance from surgeons and other healthcare professionals, overall there has been a general
acceptance to universal protocol.
In spite all the literature, documentation, and the lack of decrease in wrong site surgery, there are
still providers who continue to rush and have the philosophy that time is money. Safety events
and adverse events cost a lot of money (Laureate Education, 2010). Although adherence to
universal protocol is required by Joint Commission since July 1, 2004, wrong site, wrong
procedure, and wrong patient errors still occur. The incidence of wrong site surgery can be
improved but needs to have the full participation of everyone involved in the process. Some of the
reasons believed to add to the risk of wrong site surgery include poor planning, lack of
The Cost Of The World War On Our Country
The cost of the World War on our country has been immense. The seemingly endless destruction
has deeply disheartened the country. Now I say the country because daily I see its effects
everywhere. As I drive from my modest townhouse in Harlow towards the borstal near Epping, the
craters are still everywhere, reminders of the price of freedom. Daily, I see people walkingthe roads
with a suitcase of all their belongings, searching for a new life in Harlow, escaping the ruins of
London. Once I arrive at work, the misery is overpowering, the pain of the children is nearly
intolerable. The task of eliminating their pain is part of my role as one of the governors of the
borstal. I m often asked why I work in a prison and I am dismayed by the... Show more content on

I thought I had him down, a boy with family issues dabbling in crime as an escape his miserable
upbringing. All he needed was a mentor, someone to look up to, relatable yet successful. That night I
approached him at supper:
How is the bangers and mash, the other boys claim it s the best food we serve?
Eh, he responded digging his chin deeper into his chest.
Met any of the other chaps yet?
He responded, No then retreated to the solitude of his room.
When you work with the youth persistance is key and I was nowhere near giving up on this poor
soul. That night before I left I walked past his room and offered a casual pleasantry. He responded
with a dark, despondent stare, his eyes lifeless and defiant. I was becoming irritated by his actions
but politely offered him an a list of enrichment activities to partake in, including football, typing,
cooking, cleaning, and running. He responded I will partake in none of your enrichment rubbish; let
me alone to serve my time and leave this bloody place . Despite his refusal, I was persistent but he
continued his refusal. The encounter culminated in much irritation and his forced assignment to run.
The next morning the rain finally cleared giving way to a glorious sunrise. After arriving at work I
walked past the group of boys running around the perimeter of
Connotation In Cry The Beloved Country
The author uses the word forlorn, used on page 35 of the book Cry, the Beloved Country in the
sentence About you there is grass and bracken and you may hear the forlorn crying of the
Titihoya, one of the birds of the veld. Below you is the valley of the Umzimkulu , instead of the
word sorrowful even though both mean unhappy because forlorn gives more of negative
connotation and better describes the setting. This is appropriate in this context because the
village of Umzimkulu is put in a state of abandonment and social instability. Residents are part of
a conglomerate which pertains to abuse and racial discrimination. This word effectively shows
the message of prejudice shown by Paton. The author uses the word deteriorate, used on page
179 of the book Cry, the Beloved Country in the sentence But it was not permissible to watch its
destruction, and to replace it by nothing, or by so little, that a whole people deteriorates,
physically and morally , instead of the word decline even though both mean to become worse
progressively. Paton uses this word because it gives a negative connotation that is prevalent
throughout the book. Deterioration is a good word to use to describe the state of the tribal
system within Umzimkulu. The social stability that is prevalent between residents of Umzimkulu
is falling apart or deteriorating. It shows that the South African social structure is falling as a
whole. The author uses the word voiceless, used on page 110 of the book Cry, the Beloved
Country in the sentence others say this is a danger, for better paid labour will not only buy more
but will also read more, think more, ask more, and will not be content to be forever voiceless and
inferior , instead of the word silent even though they both mean not speaking. The author uses the
word voiceless because it describes the state of black South Africans during the time of racial
prejudice and apartheid. Paton uses this word to give a tone that blacks had no voice during the
time. Like Kumalo and Absalom, they are taken advantage of by whites and as a result, one is in a
state of sorrow while another has become promiscuous due to prejudice. The author uses the word
disintegration, used on page 178 of the book Cry, the
Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The poem The Epic of Gilgamesh is considered to be the first documented work of literature,
which originated in Uruk, a city state located along the channel of the Euphrates River in Sumer.
The Sumerians were the first civilization in Mesopotamia to devise a system of written language,
which consisted of wedge shaped characters that were inscribed in clay tablets. This system of
writing is known as cuneiform, and it was used to record The Epic of Gilgamesh. Throughout this
epic poem, Gilgamesh, the king and ruler of Uruk, encounters a number of religious figures that
sheds light upon the history and culture of the Mesopotamians. It is apparent from the start of the
poem, that the people of Uruk centered their entire lifestyle around the many deities of the
polytheistic Sumerian religion. Gilgamesh himself was the son of the goddess Ninsun and king
Lugulbanda, and was considered to be one third human, and two thirds god. Gilgamesh also
encounters Utnapanishtim, who was gifted with immortality from the gods after serving as a
heroic savior during a great flood, in which the biblical story of Noah s Ark alludes to.
Furthermore, The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the most significant literary works in history; it has
influenced and shaped the course of western literature, in molding the first archetypes of an epic
hero, and in its use of literary devices. Generally, people who are schooled in the United States are
first introduced to the concept of an epic hero, and the use of
Kansas City Chiefs
Lamar Hunt, the Kansas City Chiefs current owner Clark Hunt s dad, was elected to become the
president of the AFL on the 26th of January 1960. Before the chiefs moved to Kansas City they
played in Dallas as the Texans for three seasons that included 1 AFL Championship, but even though
they had a great team, the Dallas market could not support two teams. So the Texans moved to
Kansas City to become the Kansas City Chiefsin 1962!
The Kansas City Chiefs and the AFL merged with the NFL in 1970. Overall, they have won 480
and lost 440 games total. In their history, they have won 3 AFL Championships, but have only been
to two Super Bowl games. They lost the very first Super Bowl in 1966 to the Green Bay Packers.
Then three years later they beat ... Show more content on [Link] ...
He coached the Chiefs to both of their Super Bowls including their only Super Bowl win! He has
coached the Chiefs for 12 of those 15 years, the Texans for two years, and finished his career
coaching the New Orleans Saints for 2 years. He has won 124 out of 200 games and only lost 76
total games in his 17 season career as a coach. That gives him a 62% winning percentage.
Andy Reid, Kansas City s current head coach, has a career record of 173 wins and only 114 loses; in
all of his 287 total games he has a 60% winning percentage.
NFL Hall of Fame members from the Kansas City Chiefs include Hank Stram, Lamar Hunt, Len
Dawson, and Derrick Thomas. Len Dawson lead the Chiefs to both their Super Bowls as an
amazing quarterback. In his football career from 1952 2006 he threw 3741 passes and completed
2136 of those attempts. He also threw 239 touchdowns and only 183 interceptions. Derrick Thomas
played linebacker for the Chiefs from 1989 1999 and in that time he had 126.5 sacks 3 touchdowns
and 1 interception.
The Chiefs broke a big football world record on september 29 2014 when arrowhead stadium
became the loudest outdoor stadium in the country with 142.2 decibels the Guinness world record
compared the noise to a jet plane hovering 100 feet over your head. Arrowhead is now the loudest
Mass Murderers Should Be Punished For Killing
Mass Murder Mass Murderers are a menace to society that should be locked up, behind bars for
life. Although mass murderers are horrible human beings, they still have the right to live, same as
any other human being. There are two types of mass murderer: organized and unorganized. Under
both of these categories, mass murderers can be categorized even further into subtypes of organized
and unorganized mass murderers. Most mass murderers share similar traits such as being primarily
caucasian and male. A mass murderer s motives are their reasons or justifications for killing.
Methods of mass murderare numerous and gruesome, but the most common method is death via
firearm. Mass Murderers should be punished for killing; however, they should not be put to death.
Criminologist agree that there is no hard evidence showing that the death penalty is a more
effective deterrent than long term imprisonment. From a moral standpoint, a mass murderer killing
innocent people is evil, but then why is the public s response to kill the mass murderer acceptable?
If killing is such a bad thing, then why is it being used as a punishment for doing bad things? It is
paradoxical. The cost of housing an inmate for life is not a cheap expense; however, a human life is
more valuable money. The most effective and moral way of punishing mass murderers is indefinite
imprisonment, not a barbaric death penalty.
Mass murderers fall under one of two categories: organized and unorganized. There are also
