Male Nurse Stereotypes
Male Nurses
A Study of Discrimination and Gender Stereotyping
For many years, both men and women have tried to overcome gender roles in the workplace.
Female nurses have traditionally been the majority and because of this, many of the expectations of
the nursing profession seem to favor the feminine roles. In the 1850 s, a British woman by the name
of Florence Nightingale became the ideal image of the professional nurse when she discovered
sanitation issues that brought the mortality rates down from 47.9% to 2.2% for soldiers in barracks
during the Crimean War. Upon returning home she discovered she had become arguably the most
famous Victorian with the exception of Queen Victoria herself (BBC News, 2006 as cited in
Wikipedia). Since that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Susan LaRocco, males felt it was difficult to establish themselves in new jobs, and
felt the need to prove themselves (2007). This need to prove ones self is not true of all males.
Some feel that they were immediately valued because of their minority status. Michael Sims feels
that male nurses are perceived as more knowledgeable. He feels that they are often treated with
more respect because they are perceived as being more serious about their jobs. Tyler Durdan felt
that he was welcomed wholeheartedly by the females. He felt that he was valued as a male because
of their need for someone who could deal with the more strenuous side of nursing (Personal
communication, November 22, 2008). Female nurses like Stacey Robinson agree, Female nurses
enjoy having men in nursing, they give us a new perspective and can help us do some of the jobs
that are more physically demanding (Personal communication, November 24,
Brenda Shaughnessy s View Of Life
Mike Tyson once said, Time is like a book. You have a beginning, a middle and an end. It s just a
cycle. His interpretation of a never ending and repeating series of events is Brenda Shaughnessy
perspective of life. Her view of the real world is an engulfing journey that repeats itself in the future,
similar to a continuous cycle. Brenda Shaughnessy s repeated use of figurative language and
imagery, creates a vivid illustration to establish a clear connection between love in the past, present,
and future.

Shaughnessy includes specific imagery and figurative language into her writing in order to create
an idea of the type of person she is. In her poem I Have a Time Machine, Shaughnessy states that But

The New Black On Calum
As soon as we got to the hotel, I saw our classmates all run outside cheerfully. I noticed why, it had
started snowing. I put my hand out to catch a snowflake. I grabbed Luke s hand and pulled him
across the street to the group of classmates. Snow! I exclaimed. It might be a white Christmas, he
replied. I looked around. It was already darks so all the streetlights were shining like stars. Our
fellow classmates ran around us attempting to make snowballs, or tackling each other to the ground
just to feel like a kid again. I looked back at Luke. His blue eyes were shining brighter than all the
lights around us. It felt like a perfect moment. Everything in the universe aligned. We both leaned in
and our lips met.

You think? Yes, yes I do, Calum sassed. You know, I promised I wouldn t meddle, but I just really
hope he s not a ass to her. I m sure she ll be just fine. I really hope so, I said. You re not her parent,
Michael...Do you think they are done kissing? I don t know, turn around, I nudged Calum. He
peeked his head over his shoulder then turned back. Nope, Calum said. What does this field trip
have planned for us tomorrow? I asked, trying to divert the conversation, because I felt I was
swimming in personal matters. Breakfast, a tour, some other stuff. We should meet at my room
before breakfast, I suggested. Your room? My room is closer to the stairs, Calum argued. We both
know I m not going to wake up earlier to get to your room, I said. My room is five seconds away!
Said Calum. Five seconds of sleep is not something I ll give up. What about we meet at Rose s
room? It s on our way because it s downstairs. Well we have to ask her, I said, Do you think we can
ask her yet? I don t know you re the one with the girlfriend. How long do these things last? I don t
know, I told Calum. I don t know either. He peeked his head over his shoulder again, and then turned
back. They just finished, but we shouldn t go up to her right now, they need time to debrief. What
the fuck does that mean? Well don t they talk about whether they are going to continue with their
relationship? That s not
Reflection Paper On Observation
On September 26th, I observed class due to an injury. During my observations, I found myself
reflecting on what was happening in class at the moment and on my previous work in the class. I
strongly feel that observing is beneficial to the study of dance because it forces students to study
not only the professor but also their classmates and ways they can connect what they see to what
they need to do themselves. During my observations, I noted many moments of instruction and
critique that I can apply to my own movement, but also took time to notice the habits of my
classmates that I feel contribute to an enriching learning environment. Before I was injured, I felt
that I was doing well in the class. Tap is something I haven t studied since I was small, so it has
been nice to revisit the art form. Looking back on the first few weeks, I found that I could easily
understand the theory and rhythm of a movement, but I often had a difficult time putting that
knowledge into my body; I could explain to you what needed to happen, but it didn t always
translate to my feet. This could be frustrating as I knew what needed to happen but didn t know
why I wasn t able to do it physically. I decided that my time observing would be well spent trying
see what other students and the professor were doing that I might not be so that I may apply that
knowledge to my own movement once I was back on my feet. One of the biggest ideas I observed
was the importance of effort and intention. In the
Compare And Contrast The Three Estates Of France In The 1780s
In the late 1780 s, France was in a difficult time period. They were heavily in debt and the king,
Louis XVI and Antoinette went bankrupt because they spent all of the money on themselves
instead of trying to help the people in the town. Since there wasn t that much money, people had to
pay more taxes. Only we, the commoners, had to pay the taxes and not the wealthy people, making
the poor poorer and the rich richer. The meeting of the Estates General was called by the King
because France was going through a financial crisis. In this meeting the estates tried to come up
with ideas to get out of debt, mostly by raising taxes. The three estates were the clergy, the nobles,
and the commoners. To decide, the estates used voting by order which
Why The Automobile Is A Great Feat
When thinking of an automobile the first thing that comes to many people s minds is
transportation. The automobile is a great feat in engineering that leads to the ability to connect
the cities of the world in an easier way that everyone can own. Most people though, when thinking
about automobiles, do not think about the heart of the automobile, the engine. The engine is the
thing that drives the automobile forward and pumps the power through the transmission and to
the wheels to produce the outstanding acceleration that we feel. The engine is a great piece of
machinery, but is very fragile. It always needs proper oil and coolant. Oil is very important to an
engine; it cools the engine, cleans the engine, lubricates the engine, and creates compression in
the engine. The average mileage anyone should drive on an oil change is three thousand miles.
That is the peak distance at which the oil will start to become full of foreign particles and the
filter will not be able to properly clean this oil. In addition to oil, coolant is very important to an
engine because of the cooling ability that it adds to the engine. Without coolant the engine will
overheat and most possibly blow a head gasket or warp the block. Oil, coolant and other many
factors go into keeping an engine in good running order to extend its life. Maintaining the fluids and
keeping them in good condition is important to this longevity. The only problem with man made
machinery like an engine is that it will
Ada Lovelace Research Paper
Ada Lovelace Ada Lovelace, was born in London on December 10, 1815. Her given name was,
Augusta Ada Byron. She was the only legitimate child of poet, Lord George Gordon Byron. Ada s

uncertain character. Ada s mother would also make her lie perfectly still for long durations of time
because she was convinced it would help Ada develop self discipline.... Show more content on

Babbage was a mathematician and inventor. Even though Babbage was much older the two became
close and Babbage became a mentor and life long friend to Ada. With the help of Babbage, Ada
began studying at the University of London under Augustus de Morgan, Professor of Advanced
