Ford s Revitalization Strategy Essay
Case 4 Ford and the World Automobile Industry Robert M. Grant FORD S REVITALIZATION
STRATEGY In September 2003, Bruce Blythe took up the new position as chief strategy officer at
Ford Motor Company. His appointment came in the wake of a massive upheaval of Ford s
strategy, leadership, and organization. In 2001, Ford s CEO Jacques Nasser had been ousted by
the board after a three year tenure. Nasser s goal had been to transform Ford into a flexible,
customer focused, innovative, global giant that simultaneously paid careful attention to
profitability and shareholder return. By late 2001, it was clear that the strategy was not working.

By the turn of the century hundred of small companies were producing automobiles both in
Europe and in America. By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different
parts of the world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and reached
its peak of production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a downward
trend, but if trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe and Japan
too, total production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation was
exacerbated by the tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about here] As
a result, the automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing countries for
market opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan,
Thailand, Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these markets became
increasingly saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as the next wave
of attractive markets. With the opening of many of these countries to trade and direct investment,
the world production of cars and trucks s continued to grow (see table 4.4 ). [Table 4.4 about here]
The Evolution of the Automobile The early years of the industry were characterized by considerable
uncertainty over the design and technology of the motorcar.
The Last House On Wes Craven Research Paper
Wes Craven was a writer, director, producer, and he was known for his innovative work on horror
films that showed his creative imagination through his work. During his career, Craven won nine
cinematic awards and received three nominations. His films, Scream, The Last House on the Left,
The Hills Have Eyes, and A Nightmare on Elm Street reinvented the horror genre today. His films
didn t show ghosts or monsters, it showed the nightmare of real life violence. Throughout Wes
Craven s career, he took the horror genre to new and unpredictable places. Craven s first filmwas The
Last House on the Left in 1972 which he filmed and directed and only had the budget of $90,000.

His theme was that even the most civilized person can be capable of doing barbaric acts. Wes
Craven went to dark places to make movies and mostly focused on the fear everybody has deep
down inside. Craven based most of his horror films off of rage that was happening in his life. Last
House on the Left was based on the rage of making his first movie, broke, and how no one knew
of him. He wanted to see what would come out of a movie based on his feelings and about life at
the moment or in his past. Craven s films set new waves for future filmmakers to strive for. He
was able to combine the brutal and the thoughtful into his films and tried to get into his mind and
heart. Craven made some of films confrontational about what is going on in society or his films
show moments that grab you at the throat. He uses different methods to capture his audience to
really scare them. For example, in the first twenty minutes of Scream is intense, scary, and bloody
and he captures the audiences attention with the first scene of the movie and it refused to play by
the rules. Craven made his films that were about the here and now, it wasn t about fantasy. He
believed the scariest idea was what is close to home, what we know best and what we think we
trust. The horror genre shows what we are not comfortable in and honestly shows what we are like
as a society or as families.
Titus Andronicus And A Comedy Of Errors
In many of Shakespeare s plays, he uses women to reflect on the social structures of Elizabethan
England. Specifically, in Titus Andronicus and A Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare appears to take a
very feministic approach on the role of women within society. Although women were not allowed the
same privileges as men during this time period, Shakespeare seems to attribute agency to the female
characters within his plays. In Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus and A Comedy of Errors, he uses
allusions, metaphorical language, and explicit imagery to create powerful identities for women in
order to critique the patriarchal structure of Elizabethan society. In order to understand the agency of
women in these plays, it is also important to consider the social context in which the plays were
written. Although the reign of Queen Elizabeth I provided the opportunity for the increase of
women s rights, there was still much progress to be made. In fact, women were often very reliant on
the means of either their fathers or their husbands. Although women did have access to education, it
was not education as we understand it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Antipholus of Syracuse says Sing, Siren, for thyself, and I will dote (A Comedy of
Errors 3.2.47) In the Oddyssey, the Sirens were creatures who lured sailors to their deaths using
the sound of their voices. Not only does this insinuate the beauty of Tamora, but it also suggests
that she has the power to use this beauty to overcome the power of her male counterparts. In this
way, Shakespeare attributes a great amount of agency to Lavinia, especially in relation to
Antipholus. By providing this agency to Tamora, Shakespeare provides a critique on Elizabethan
society. He uses the power of her character to suggest that regardless of the patriarchal structure of
society, women still have some level of power over
How Does Salt Affect The Height Of Ice Cream
Title: What is the effect of salt content on the height of ice cream?

Purpose
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream
formations.

Background Information
To make ice cream you need milk, half and half, sugar and vanilla. All of these products make ice
cream, but they must be cooled down. That is where salt comes in. Just like when salt is spread on
roads in cold weather to prevent freezing roads, salt in ice cream allows the freezing point to
decrease. Since ice cream isn t just water, salt is needed to make the ice creams temperature below
32 degrees Fahrenheit. The salt makes the mixture of ice cream colder than with just ice. By mixing
the ice and salt, the freezing point gets lowered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the amount of salt (Tbsp.) increased, so did the height of Ice cream. When two Tbsp. of salt
were used, the data resulted in 4.8 cm, 3.1 cm, and 3.4 cm. When the control (6 Tbsp.) were used,
the height resulted in 7.5 cm, 8.4 cm, and 5.9 cm. Ten Tbsp. resulted in 5.2 cm, 11.4 cm, and 9.8
cm. As one can see, increasing the amount of salt, showed an increase in the height of Ice cream.

Conclusion
The purpose of the experiment was to see if more salt content resulted in higher ice cream
formations. The question the lab asked was What variable needs to be changed to produce greater
ice cream height? The hypothesis was If the salt content increases, then the ice cream formation will
yield taller formations.
The hypothesis was supported. As the salt content went from 2 Tbsp., 6 Tbsp., and 10 Tbsp. The
average went up from 3.6 cm per 2 Tbsp. to 7.2 cm per 6 Tbsp. to 8.8 cm per 10 Tbsp. The
principle guiding the outcome, was the salt, lowering the freezing point.

Examples Of Gothic In The House Of The Seven Gables
Hawthorne s Treatment Of The Gothic In The House Of Seven Gables

Hawthorne is renowned for his use of psychological analysis in his works, and the reason behind
this fame is quite evident in The House of the Seven Gables . An immensely powerful example of
Hawthorne s psychological perspicacity is what Marilyn R Chandler calls the parallel between the
house and the human psyche : the grand edifice represses literally shoves underground the secret
that will become its curse. (Chandler 82) In 1850, a few months before the publication of The
House of the Seven Gables , Herman Melville reviewed Mosses from an Old Manse , a short story
collection by Hawthorne, in his essay, Hawthorne and his Mosses . Melville lavished immense
praise on Hawthorne, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All veils are lifted towards the end, however. Judge Pyncheon is proved to have died of entirely
natural causes. With the death of the Judge, the grasping, greedy nature of the Pyncheons their fatal
flaw, if you will that set in motion the entire unfortunate chain of events, is shown to vanish too. The
curse that hung over each successive generation of the Pyncheons is rendered hollow by the union
of Holgrave and Phoebe, and the strange realm of witchcraft is also subverted by the slightly more
credible science of mesmerism. The aura of the uncanny starts to dissipate, and is finally dispelled
with the help of reasonable, rational explanations centred in the realm of the mundane, and
psychological justification wherein lies Hawthorne s specialty. Lionel Trilling, in Our Hawthorne ,
also appreciates Hawthorne s unmatched skill in this sphere: Many of the tales, or romances as he
thought of them, are multi levelled, ironic explorations of the human psyche capable of endless
extensions of meaning and of stimulating repeated analysis and interpretation. (Trilling
Marxist Theory And Social Class
In contemporary Western societies, there is a social division due to stratification and classes.
Strydom (2005) defines social class as group of individuals that share similarities like power and
prestige. Saunders (2001) states that stratification is the presence of distinct social groups which
are ranked. Therefore, the major difference is that stratification shows diversity while social classes
defines an inequality. In Marxist theories, society is divided between two classes, and social
stratification is the conflict between them. To illustrate this, China has faced communism for over a
decade, in which has caused major social inequalities within the society. In fact, China is one of the
few countries that the forces of communism and capitalism are involved. In this essay,it will
describe the main idea of Marxist theory and other theories about social class, then make an
assessment of the use of Marxist theory in today s world.
For Marx there were two distinct groups in society; the ruling and subject group. The ruling class are
those who own the means of production distribution and exchange, they also called the Bourgeoisie,
but the subject class is those who must sell their labour in the market place in order to live, they
could be called the Proletariat. Marx believed that the Bourgeoisie and the Proletariat was in
permanent opposition, the bourgeoisie exploits the proletariat as the wages workers receive for their
labour is a fraction of the market value of the
Biblical Allusions In Alan Paton s Cry The Beloved Country
Absalom s authorship is not identified but is most likely written by prophets Nathan and Gad

the purposes of 2 Samuel 13 is to help the reader prevent this type of sin, rather than to help us to
recover from it, having fallen. It is a strong warning against letting our passions lead us, because of

Daniel Holden from Chilton s Electronic News reported from an interview with Cadence Design

each with a significant inroad to the market segments dominated by the other, while allowing both

Essay on Personal Freedom Song of Solomon
Search for Personal Freedom Song of Solomon

Personal freedom is the ability to ignore societal and familial influences to find the true sense of
self. Individuals are truly liberated when they are physically, mentally, and spiritually free. The
search for personal freedom is exemplified in Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. The main
protagonist, Milkman achieves personal freedom through attainment of knowledge, by confronting
his family, and by overcoming the prejudices of society.

Knowledge is a primary factor in the attainment of personal freedom. This includes not only
scholarly education but also awareness of historical heritage and familial legacy. The fact that African
Americans were held in human bondage cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he eventually realizes that money will not satisfy what is missing from his life. He
therefore, begins his search for his sense of self. Milkman metamorphosizes after his journey into his
ancestral history which gave him the means to become personally free.

A second element essential for personal freedom is the ability to break familial ties that hinder or
restrain us on our individual journeys. Milkman had the courage to leave his family to discover his
sense of self. Everyone is affected by childhood events, but it is important that these incidents do not
prohibit us from discovering our true selves. David Willbern in Reading After Freud states that
[p]atterns of expectation, satisfaction and frustration in early life provide templates for the gradual
construction and emergence of self (Willbern 160). Milkman aspires to evolve from their childhood
nightmares to actualize their personal freedom.

Although Milkman lived in the Twentieth Century and is not physically a slave, he is repressed
by his family. Milkman s parents love him; however, Morrison refers to their love as an anaconda
love as they squeeze the life out of Milkman and leave little room for growth and maturity. Ruth
Dead is so possessive of Milkman that she continues to breast feed him long after he should have
been weaned as his legs [were] dangling almost to the floor (Morrison 13). When Freddie caught
them in the act, Milkman had been rechristened

A hereditary defect of hemoglobin in red blood cells, known as sickle cell anemia can be the
reason why there is blood in your urine. When you have inherited disorders, blood in the urine can

effect on the filtering membranes in the glomeruli of the kidneys can cause blood in urine.
Kidney injury. When you experience internal bleeding from an accident or contact sports, it is very

Strenuous exercise. Even though it rarely happens, however, it is the fact that strenuous exercise

Since hematuria has no specific treatment, your health care provider will instead focus on dealing

The Influence Of Labelling Theory On Criminal Justice Policy
Labelling theory has strengths and has influenced criminal justice policy, particularly regarding
young offenders, recognising potentially toxic effects from court through to custody. Diversion is

work in labelling. The CJS now targets those seen as at risk of offending , and cautioning and
