ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES FOR ENT503

Assignment 1: Assignment 1 (2 Reading tasks + 1 Listening task) will include the following
tasks:

Reading Assignment Task 1: 5 passages

Reading Assignment Task 2: 5 passages

Listening Assignment: 5 audio files

Students must complete all assignments on the Edunext Exam System and submit their
answers by the due date assigned by the lecturer.

Assignment 2: Group Presentation

In groups of FOUR or FIVE, students prepare a presentation (15-20 minutes) following


ONE of these two options.

OPTION 1

Students are randomly assigned ONE out of TEN given topics. The given topics include:

1. Talk about important job qualifications for a successful job interview. (You should include
the definition of job qualification, specific job qualifications, key features, and ways to
improve job qualifications.)

2. Describe some important values from parents and peers that make great impacts on
young people’s lives. (You should include specific values, key features, their influences,
and relevant examples.)

3. Talk about some common hardships that young people have and solutions. (You should
include specific types of hardships, key features, causes, and practical solutions to
overcome hardships.)

4. Talk about some causes of getting angry and ideal ways to handle anger. (You should
include specific types of anger, key features, and ways to express and control anger.)

5. Talk about some factors that lead to laughter and efficient ways to become a happy
person. (You should include the definition of laughter, key features, ways to be a happy
person, and relevant examples.)

6. Talk about some air travel hassles and ways to handle them. (You should include the
definition of air travel hassles, types of common hassles, key features, practical solutions to
address them, and relevant examples.)

7. Talk about some common phobias among students and effective solutions to overcome
phobias. (You should include the definition of phobia, types of phobias, key features, and
practical solutions to overcome phobias.)

8. Talk about some types of intelligence and ways to boost each type of intelligence. (You
should include some specific types of intelligence, key features, and ways to boost
intelligence.)

9. Talk about predictions about future technology and their impacts on life. (You should
include specific technological devices, predictions, reasons for predictions, and impacts on
life.)

10. Talk about the pros and cons of globalisation. (You should include the definition of
globalisation, key features, the pros and cons of globalisation, and relevant examples.)

OPTION 2

Students suggest ONE topic (different from the list in option 1) based on ONE unit
introduced in the textbook for the presentation.

Teachers decide if the proposed topic is accessible. Teachers can make changes or
adjustments to the topic if necessary. In case the suggested topic is inaccessible or
unrelated to the units in the course textbook, teachers can reject students’ suggestions.
